Functional evaluation of the filtering bleb by ultrasound biomicroscopy after trabeculectomy with mitomycin C

AIM： To study the role of ultrasound biomicroscopy（UBM） in the assessment of the bleb function after trabeculectomy with mitomycin C（MMC）. METHODS： This was a cross-sectional study including all cases had undergone trabeculectomy with MMC 0.2 mg/mL for 3 min. Participants were recruited from the follow-up cases at Department of Ophthalmology, Tanta University in the period from August 2015 to August 2016. Full history taking and ophthalmological examination were performed. Intraocular pressure（IOP） was measured using Goldmann applanation tonometry and the history of prescribed postoperative antiglaucoma medications was recorded. Accordingly, the trabeculectomy blebs were divided clinically into successful blebs when the IOP post-operative was ≤18 mmHg without medications. Scanning examination of the filtering bleb using UBM examination was performed at the period from 2 to 36 mo after trabeculectomy（13.6±9.7 m o）. RESULTS： This study included 33 trabeculectomy filtering blebs of 25 patients（9 males and 16 females）. The mean age of patients was 53.2±14.2 y（range 25-71y）. We had 20 eyes with complete success, 9 eyes with qualified success, and 4 eyes with failure after trabeculectomy with MMC. The blebs were classified into successful blebs（IOP ≤18 mmHg without antiglaucoma medications）, others were classified into qualified successful and failed blebs. There was a significant correlation between certain UBM findings（intra-bleb reflectivity, draining sub-scleral tract, bleb height, and intrableb fluid cysts） and cases with different grades of clinical functional success（P〈0.01）.CONCLUSION： UBM is an objective tool in the functional assessment of the post-trabeculectomy filtering bleb through a significant correlation between certain UBM parameters and the different grades of clinical functional success.

Validated stability indicating methods for determination of nitazoxanide in presence of its degradation products

Biomass Combined Heat and Power Generation for Anticosti Island: A Case Study

Combined heat and power (CHP) plants (co-generation plants) using biomass as fuel, can be an interesting alternative to the predominant electrical heating in Canada. The biomass-fueled boiler provides heat for the steam cycle which in turn generates electricity from the generator connected to the steam turbine. In addition, heat from the process is supplied to a district heating system. The heat can be extracted from the system in a number of ways, by using a back-pressure steam turbine, an extraction steam turbine or by extracting heat directly from the boiler. The objective of the paper is the design, modeling and simulation of such CHP plant. The plant should be sized for providing electric-ity and heat for the Anticosti Island community in Quebec.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the efficacy of Fig fruit powder and olive on hepatic,renal and splenic injury induced by 2-nitropropane(2-NP)in mice,especially if they were used in ***:A total of 40 adult BALB/c male mice weighting 25-30 g/*** were categorized into five groups(8 each).Group 1 as negative *** 2 as positive control group intraperitoneally injected with 2-NP(100 mg/kg b.w.)3 times/weekly for eight *** 3 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with Fig(300 mg/kg).Group 4 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with olive(100 mg/kg).Group 5 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplemented with mixture of Fig and olive(3∶1 respectively).RESULTS:Histopathological observation of liver in mice treated with 2-NP showed cellular degeneration,pyknosis,and congestion of the portal *** kidney there were disorganization of the cortical tissues,cellular necrosis and plenty of inflammatory lymphocytic *** elevations in liver function parameters(alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase),m RNA expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-α,nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase and cyclooxygenase were detected as anti-inflammatory markers and 5-lipoxygenase,interleukin-1βand interleukin-6 as inflammatory biomarkers for liver and spleen,also significant elevations was detected in lipid peroxidation *** levels of antioxidants,glutathione,glutathione peroxidase,catalase and superoxide dismutase were significantly ***:our findings indicated that Fig fruit powder and olive protected against hepatic,renal and splenic injury induced with 2-NP in mice,especially if they were used in combination.

Adenoma of the Nipple, Mimicking Paget’s Disease of the Breast: Report of a Case

Nipple adenoma is a rare benign condition that simulates malignancy. A 37-year-old woman presented with unilateral bloody nipple discharge for 1-year duration followed by severe nipple erosion. As biopsy revealed nipple adenoma and therefore, complete local excision was done. The final histopathology showed florid papillomatosis which was adequately excised. Nipple adenoma although rare entity this should be included in the differential diagnosis of any nipple erosion such as carcinoma and Paget’s disease of the breast specially when associated with bloody discharge in premenopausal women.

Behavioural Modelling of Lips Seal Made with Polytetrafluoroethylene Enriched by Glass Fibers

Polytetrafluoroethylene reinforced with glass fibers is a composite material widely used in industry mainly for the manufacture of seals at the level of the rotary shafts of vehicles and stationary floor machines such as turbines and compressors. However, due to elastic and viscous-plastic properties of this material, it wears quickly under the influence of some external parameters during operation. There are therefore material loss, increased clearance and loss of sealing. This work summarises a series of tests carried out with this material in order to analyse the variation of the friction coefficient due to the roughness of the work piece brought into contact with the PTFE, the linear velocity of contact between them and material yield strength. To do this analysis, we used the method of unconventional design of experiments to model the behaviour of material and consequently make decisions to reduce this wear. The results are shown and deeply analysed in the following text as a polynomial mathematical model, graphs, contours and response surfaces illustrating the holding of this material under the effect of the three parameters mentioned above. The previous PTFE samples enriched with chopped glass fibers are not subjected to axially force this time, contrary to the force applied radially. The advantage of this method is the relative linear velocity at the contact sample-disc and the applied pressure remains constant. Under the action of the weight “P” applied on the sample, it comes into friction with the rotating disc whose roughness changes from experience to another;it is expressed by the values of Ra. Tangential friction force appears at the point of contact and is equilibrated by measured force Fm on the lever. The calculation of the moment relative bench axis caused by 2 forces gives the coefficient of friction. Knowing the values of frictional force Ft by calculation and the weight P, we determine then the friction coefficient.

Could Bladder Inflation Prior to Cesarean Section Prevent Urinary Tract Injury in High Risk Group? A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Accidental urinary tract particularly bladder injury during cesarean delivery has a significant maternal morbidity, as it may lead to extended operative time, infection of urinary tract and sometimes development of urinary tract fistulae. Objective: To find out the efficacy of urinary bladder inflation immediately prior to cesarean section (CS) procedure in minimizing incidence of accidently urinary tract injury in high risk patients. Setting: Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine, South Valley University, Qena, Egypt. Duration: From August 2017 to November 2018. Study Design: A prospective randomized controlled trial. Methods: Seventy six pregnant women recruited from attendants of outpatient antenatal care unit of obstetrics and gynecology department who planned for cesarean delivery and carried one or more risk factors for urinary tract injury. Patients randomly were classified into 2 groups (group I included 38 cases, underwent bladder inflation using triple way Foley’s catheter immediately before CS and group II included 38 cases, and underwent bladder deflation with 2 ways Foley’s catheter immediately before CS. Results: The overall incidence of urinary tract injury was significantly higher in group II (7 cases = 18.4%) than in group I (2 cases = 5.2%) with p value ely significantly higher in group II (5 cases = 13.1%) than group I (2 cases = 5.2%) with p value 0.01;ureteric or combined vesico-ureteric injuries had been reported only in group II (1 case = 2.6% and 1 case = 2.6%) respectively with no case reported in group I (p There was a highly statistically significant difference between group I and group II as regard to hospital stay (p < 0.001) but mildly significant differences in operative time and remote urinary tract fistulae (p Conclusions: There was significant reduction in urinary bladder injury, ureteric injury, operative time and hospital stay. Assessment of Sub-Endometrial Junction Zone by 3-Dimensional Transvaginal Ultrasound in Unexplained Recurrent Implantation Failure and Its Effect on ICSI Outcomes

BACKGROUND: Sub-endometrial junction zone (JZ) plays an important role in most of reproductive functions. OBJECTIVE: To find out the effect of the sub-endometrial JZ thickness assessment by 3-D trans-vaginal ultrasound (TVUS) on intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) outcomes in patients with unexplained recurrent implantation failure (RIF). SETTING: ART Unit of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine, South Valley University, Qena, Egypt. DURATION: From April 2016 to October 2018. STUDY DESIGN: A prospective observational study. METHDS: Fifty couples with history of unexplained RIF in previous ICSI cycles and prepared for another ICSI cycle (group I) and fifty couples with unexplained infertility prepared for ICSI for the first time (group II) had been included in this study. At time of ovum pick up, 3-DTVUS was done for all cases in both groups for assessment of sub endometrial junction zone thickness and correlated with ICSI outcome. RESULTS: There were statistically significant differences between group I and group II in JZ thickness in the 3 uterine regions (fundus, anterior and posterior walls) with p 0.001, but there were mildly statistically significant differences between both groups in chemical and clinical pregnancy rates with p ely correlated with increased embryo implantation rates in ICSI procedures, the thinner the JZ thickness was associated with higher pregnancy rates (both chemical and clinical pregnancy rates).
