High philopatry rates of Yellow-legged Gulls in the southeastern part of the Bay of Biscay

Background:Philopatry rate is one of the main factors shaping population dynamics in colonial *** rates of philopatry are linked to populations with high dispersal,while high rates are linked to populations with a very high spatial structure pattern(i.e.,metapopulations).The Cantabrian Yellow-legged Gull(Larus michahellis)population is considered to be resident,with relatively low dispersal *** estimations of its philopatry rates are however still ***,we aimed to estimate philopatry rates in the main Yellow-legged Gull colonies of the province of Gipuzkoa,in the southeastern part of the Bay of ***:We analysed 734 resightings,during the breeding season at the colonies of Getaria,Santa Clara and Ulia,relative to a total of 3245 individuals ringed at birth in these same colonies during a period of 13 *** data were analysed using Multi-State Recapture models in ***:After controlling survival and resighting probability,the average dispersal rate among colonies was 4%(±SD=2%)when individuals are immature,decreasing to 1±1%)for adult breeding gulls(i.e.,philopatry rate was 99%).Annual survival rates were assessed to be 0.27±0.02 for birds in their first year of life and 0.87±0.01 for older *** probability of observing immature birds in the colonies was 0.08±0.01,as compared to 0.21±0.02 in adult ***:We obtained evidence of extremely high local philopatry rates,clearly within the upper limit found in gulls.A high philopatry favour a speciation in these species who are vulnerable to obtain the main food source(land-fills and fishing discard)which are transforming under new ecological process.

We explore new asymptotic-numeric solvers for partial differential equations with highly oscillatory forcing terms. Such methods represent the solution as an asymptotic series, whose terms can be evaluated by solving non-oscillatory problems and they guarantee high accuracy at a low computational cost. We consider two forms of oscillatory forcing terms, namely when the oscillation is in time or in space： each lends itself to different treatment. Numerical examples highlight the salient features of the new approach.

The effects of incident energetic particles,and the modification of materials under irradiation,are governed by the mechanisms of energy losses of ions in *** complex processes affecting projectiles spanning many orders of magnitude in energy depend on both ion and electron *** multi-scale modeling methods that correctly capture the relevant processes is crucial for predicting radiation effects in diverse *** this work,we obtain channeling ion ranges for tungsten,a prototypical heavy ion,by explicitly simulating ion trajectories with a method that takes into account both the nuclear and the electronic stopping *** electronic stopping power of self-ion irradiated tungsten is obtained from first-principles timedependent density functional theory(TDDFT).Although the TDDFT calculations predict a lower stopping power than SRIM by a factor of three,our result shows very good agreement in a direct comparison with ion range *** results demonstrate the validity of the TDDFT method for determining electronic energy losses of heavy projectiles,and in turn its viability for the study of radiation damage.

Nest predation and avian brood parasitism are the main sources of nest failure in many passerine *** predators threaten both brood and parents,whereas brood parasites pose only a danger to eggs or *** fan-tailed gerygone Gerygone flavolateralis from New Caledonia is subjected to high rates of nest predation by the New Caledonian crow Corvus moneduloides(responsible for about 20-40%of predation)and moderate rates of brood parasitism by the shining bronze-cuckoo Chalcites lucidus(parasitizing about 18%of nests),which also depredates nests that are too advanced for parasitism(13%of nests).To test if fan-tailed gerygones are able to discriminate predators from brood parasites,we presented 3 bird models at active gerygone nests:a brood parasite/small nest predator(shining bronze-cuckoo),a large nest predator(crow),and a small non-native bird(common chaffinch Fringilla coelebs),which is unknown to the gerygone,as a *** assessed the response of adult gerygones to the presentation of each model by measuring the minimum approach distance,number of alarm calls,number of attacks,and time to first nest visit after the presentation(latency).Adult gerygones often attacked the cuckoo,approached but never attacked the chaffinch and always avoided the *** was shorter after an attack response and during brooding,but similar among *** did not find any link between the cuckoo model presentation and later ejection of cuckoo *** conclude that adult fan-tailed gerygones discriminate between different models and respond accordingly to the level of threat but do not show awareness of parasitism risk and increase of nestling ejection rates following exposure to the cuckoo model.

The ideal endpoint of hepatitis B virus(HBV)antiviral therapy is HBsAg loss,a difficult goal to obtain,especially in HBeAg negative ***,we report the results obtained by the addition of peg-interferonα-2a to a long-lasting nucleos(t)ide analogues therapy in a HBeAg negative,genotype D patient with steadily HBV-DNA negative/HBsAg positive *** 2002,our Caucasian 44-year-old male patient received lamivudine and,4 years later,added adefovir because of a virological *** 2011,considering his young age,liver stiffness(4.3 kPa)and HBsAg levels(3533IU/mL),we added Peg-interferonα-2a for six months(3in combination with nucleos(t)ide analogues followed by 3 mo of Peg-interferonα-2a monotherapy).A decrease of HBsAg levels was observed after 1 mo(1.21log)of Peg-interferon and 3 mo(1.88 log)after the discontinuation of all ***,a complete clearance of HBsAg was obtained with steadily undetectable HBVDNA serum levels(<9 IU/mL).HBsAg clearance by the addition of a short course of Peg-interferonα-2a represents an important result with clinical and pharmacoeconomic implications,considering that nucleos(t)ide analogues therapy in HBeAg negative chronic hepatitis B patients is considered a long-lasting/life-long treatment.

Central pancreatectomy(CP) is a parenchyma-sparing surgical procedure. The aims are to clarify the history and the development of CP and to give credits to those from whom it came. Ehrhardt, in 1908, described segmental neck resection(SNR) followed, in 1910, by Finney without reconstructive part. In 1950 Honjyo described two cases of SNR combined with gastrectomy for gastric cancer infiltrating the neck of the pancreas. Guillemin and Bessot(1957) and Letton and Wilson(1959) dealt only with the reconstructive aspect of CP. Dagradi and Serio, in 1982, performed the first CP including the resective and reconstructive aspects. Subsequently Iacono has validated it with functional endocrine and exocrine tests and popularized it worldwide. In 2003, Baca and Bokan performed laparoscopic CP and, In 2004, Giulianotti et al performed a robotic assisted CP. CP is performed worldwide either by open surgery or by using minimally-invasive or robotic approaches. This confirms that the operation does not belong to whom introduced it but to everyone who carries out it; however credit must be given to those from whom it came.

A new classification of the taxa formerly ascribed to Biannulariaceae(≡Catathelasmataceae),***(type),Callistosporium,Pleurocollybia,Macrocybe,Pseudolaccaria,Guyanagarika and Anupama is here *** inference of the Tricholomatineae based on the analysis of a combined dataset of nuclear genes including ITS,18S and 28S rDNA,tef1 and rpb2 data supports significantly a monophyletic origin of the aforementioned genera with the exception of Catathelasma,which is significantly related with Bonomyces and *** is therefore emended to include the clade formed by Catathelasma,Bonomyces and ***,the new family Callistosporiaceae is proposed to name the clade containing Callistosporium(=Pleurocollybia)and related *** of Callistosporium with distant lamellae,long hygrophoroid basidia and large amygdaliform spores are accommodated in the new genus ***,the new species Callistosporium pseudofelleum and Macrocybe sardoa are described,Clitocybe hesleri and *** are combined into Callistosporium and Pseudolaccaria,respectively,and Callistosporium olivascens *** is upgraded to species rank and combined into Xerophorus.
