BACKGROUND Malignant transformation(MT)of mature cystic teratoma(MCT)has a poor prognosis,especially in advanced *** chemoradiotherapy(CCRT)has an inhibitory effect on *** SUMMARY Herein,we present a case in which CCRT had a reduction effect preoperatively.A 73-year-old woman with pyelonephritis was referred to our *** tomography revealed right hydronephrosis and a 6-cm pelvic *** ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy(EUS-FNB)revealed squamous cell *** patient was diagnosed with MT of *** to her poor general con-dition and renal malfunction,we selected CCRT,expecting fewer adverse *** CCRT,her performance status improved,and the tumor size was reduced;surgery was *** months postoperatively,the patient developed dis-semination and lymph node *** chemotherapy was *** died 18 months after treatment *** EUS-FNB was useful in the diagnosis of MT of MCT;CCRT suppressed the disea-se and improved quality of life.

In order to study convergence zones or discontinuous lines formed locally in the Taklimakan Desert,we analyzed available MODIS images onboad TERRA or AQUA satellite for ten cases:29 March 2002,14 April 2002;2 January 2003;21 April 2003;26 March 2004;28 April 2004;30 January 2005;25 June 2005;3 December 2005;and 26 July *** used weather maps published by the Japan Mete-orological Agency for the Asia and Pacific region at 500 hPa,700 hPa and 850 hPa,at 00Z and 12Z to analyze the meteorological conditions occurring in each *** estimated the positions of air streams,convergence zones or discontinuous lines between them,and thermal conditions on the maps and con-firmed the presence of cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds through satellite images in *** a review of previous studies,this paper introduced the results of the present *** warm areas in the Taklimakan Desert and on the Tibetan Plateau and local convergence zones or discontinuous lines in the Taklimakan Desert were discussed together with their diurnal changes,using composite maps of the ten *** the long axis of the desert the convergence zones or discontinuous lines normally extend 70-80 km in a west-east direction,but are suspected to exceed 100 km in extreme *** the other hand,the convergence zones or discontinuous lines extending in a north-south direction on the southern fringe of the desert have a length of 40-60 *** closed warm areas show clear diurnal changes,but they were not detected at the 500 hPa *** example of a clear convergence zone running in a north-south direction on 26 July 2006 was presented in detail with corresponding satellite images.

Aquifer thermal energy storage is a versatile method for regulating building temperatures,utilizing groundwater as a medium for both summer cooling and winter *** has high thermal conductivity and specific heat but is corrosive,creating a mineral build-up that causes ***,its high freezing point presents operational *** oils emerge as a promising alternative,owing to their lower freezing *** light of environmental concerns,researchers are exploring vegetable oils as substitutes for petroleum-derived mineral *** paper is intended as an initial study using vegetable oils,*** and sunflower oil,as the heat-transfer medium in aquifer thermal energy *** experiments assess the heat-transfer coefficient of coconut,sunflower,mineral,and synthetic oils when exposed to the same heat *** study also evaluates the impact of introducing micro-carbon(graphite and charcoal)to the *** indicate that sunflower oil has the highest heat-transfer coefficient of 374.4 W/m^(2) K among the oils,making it suitable for aquifer thermal energy storage ***,augmenting sunflower oil with charcoal powder enhances its performance by increasing the heat-transfer coefficient to 474.9 W/m^(2) K,or a 27%*** contrast,coconut oil proves unsuitable for aquifer thermal energy storage deployment because of its low heat-transfer coefficient of 293.7 W/m^(2) *** heat-transfer coefficient of synthetic oil increases with graphite powder but decreases with charcoal powder introduction.

Various techniques for creating a comfortable thermal environment and saving energy have been proposed and employed in residential buildings in many countries, including Japan. For these techniques to be introduced, existing houses should be renovated. Among the techniques available, installation of additional inner windows is effective in creating a comfortable and energy-efficient living environment. In the present research, the effect of additional inner windows on the thermal environment and energy saving was investigated by measuring indoor climates. Windows were renovated in two rooms on the fourth floor of a four-story reinforced concrete building. Air temperatures, the humidity, the global solar radiation on horizontal and vertical surfaces, radiant temperatures, and the electricity consumption of air-conditioners were measured. A comparison of these vatues before and after the installation of inner- windows showed that the thermal environment and energy saving had improved. Results obtained from a thermal model agreed well with measured results by changing the value of solar transmittance and heat transmission coefficient of the glazing forlowing renovation. Furthermore, in a questionnaire survey conducted in summer, more than half of the occupants answered ＂cornfortabte＂ to a question on the overall thermal comfort.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the ultrasound-microbubble technique in nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB) decoy oligodeoxynucleotide(ODN) transfection in the gingival tissue in mice. The 6-FAM-labeled scrambled decoy ODN with microbubbles was applied to the periodontal tissue in 8-week-old male C57BL/6J mice by ultrasound radiation at low(LUM-Sc) and high(HUM-Sc) intensities to optimize the transfection condition of the ultrasound-microbubble *** inspections were performed two hours after transfection to compare the expression with that in the sham-operated group without ultrasound radiation(A-Sc). Then, an NF-κB decoy was transfected into the periodontal tissue using the highintensity ultrasound-microbubble(HUM-NF) technique to examine the anti-inflammatory effects of the decoy ODN. Western blot analysis was performed to investigate the expression of interleukin(IL)-1β, IL-6 and intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1)in the gingival tissues in the HUM-Sc, the HUM-NF and control groups. The fluorescence microscopy results showed that the fluorescent intensity in the periodontal tissues in the LUM-Sc and HUM-Sc groups was significantly higher than that in the A-Sc and the control groups. The fluorescent intensity in the HUM-Sc group, especially in the gingival connective tissue,was the highest of all groups. Western blot analysis indicated that the protein expression levels of IL-1β, IL-6 and ICAM-1 in the HUM-NF group were significantly lower than those in the HUM-Sc and the control groups. These findings suggest that the high-intensity ultrasound-microbubble technique is an effective tool for decoy transfection into the periodontal tissue.
