Alternancy Study on Rambutan(Nephelium lappaceum L.)Tree in Mexico

Rambutan growing in the state of Chiapas has brought about a demand for new plantations;however, this species has several biotic and abiotic factors that limit its production. These factors include phytosanitary problems, deficient agronomical handling, and production alternancy. Because of this, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the application of agronomical practices such as pruning, ringing, water stress, and their interaction on the rambutan alternancy. The experiment was carried out in the “La Chinita” commercial orchard located on KM. 4.5 the Huehuetan Station, municipality of Huehuetan, Chiapas, Mexico. We used 48 rambutan trees in production with an age of 14 years. Two production cycles were evaluated. The experiment was established under a divided plot experimental design in random complete blocks with a factorial arrangement and six replicates;each tree being a replicate. The study factors were: water stress, pruning, girdling, irrigation (control), and their combinations, resulting in eight treatments. The evaluation was done during flowering, fruit set, and harvest. In flowering, the treatments with permanent irrigation in both evaluated cycles (2010-2011 and 2011-2012) manifested a production alternancy behavior, with an average 36.4% flowering in the first evaluation cycle and increased to 82.1% in the second cycle. The treatments with water stress kept a proportional flowering during the first and second cycles of 97.9% and 95.3%, respectively. The water stress influenced the bunch weight (PR) variable fruit set with bigger fruits and higher bunch weight than the irrigated treatments. In production, pruning and girdling together with water deficit had no alternancy in both production cycles.

Ligand effects on the structure and vibrational properties of the thiolated Au18 cluster

Most of the studies devoted to thiolated gold clusters suppose that their core and Au-S framework do not suffer from distortion independently of the protecting ligands（-SR） and it is assumed as correct to simplify the ligand as SCH3. In this work is delivered a systematic study of the structure and vibrational properties（IR and Raman）of the Au18（SR）14cluster. The pursued goal is to understand the dependency of the displayed vibrational properties of the thiolated Au18cluster with the ligands type. A set of six ligands was considered during calculations of the vibrational properties based on density functional theory（DFT） and in its dispersioncorrected approach（DFT-D）.

Effect of frequency and flexibility ratio on the seismic response of deep tunnels

Two-dimensional dynamic numerical analyses have been conducted,using FLAC 7.0,to evaluate the seismic response of underground structures located far from the seismic source,placed in either linear-elastic or nonlinear elastoplastic *** interaction between the ground and deep circular tunnels with a tied interface is *** the simulations,it is assumed that the liner remains in its elastic regime,and plane strain conditions apply to any cross section perpendicular to the tunnel *** elastoplastic constitutive model is implemented in FLAC to simulate the nonlinear *** effect of input frequency and relative stiffness between the liner and the ground,on the seismic response of tunnels,is *** response is studied in terms of distortions normalized with respect to those of the free field,and load demand(axial forces and bending moments)in the *** all cases,*** linear-elastic and nonlinear ground models,the results show negligible effect of the input frequency on the distortions of the cross section,for input frequencies smaller than 5 Hz;that is for ratios between the wave length and the tunnel opening(k=D)larger than ten for linear-elastic and nine for nonlinear *** normalized distortions are obtained for the nonlinear than for the linear-elastic ground,for the same relative stiffness,with differences increasing as the tunnel becomes more flexible,or when the amplitude of the dynamic input shear stress *** has been found that normalized distortions for the nonlinear ground do not follow a unique relationship,as it happens for the linear-elastic ground,but increase as the amplitude of the dynamic input *** loading in the liner decreases as the structure becomes more flexible with respect to the ground,and is smaller for a tunnel placed in a stiffer nonlinear ground than in a softer nonlinear ground,for the same flexibility ratio.

Hubbard U through polaronic defect states

Since the preliminary work of Anisimov and co-workers,the Hubbard corrected DFT+U functional has been used for predicting properties of correlated materials by applying on-site effective Coulomb interactions to specific ***,the determination of the Hubbard U parameter has remained under intense discussion despite the multitude of approaches ***,we define a selection criterion based on the use of polaronic defect states for the enforcement of the piecewise linearity of the total energy upon electron occupation.A good agreement with results from piecewise linear hybrid functionals is found for the electronic and structural properties of polarons,including the formation *** values of U determined in this way are found to give a robust description of the polaron energetics upon variation of the considered *** particular,we also address a polaron hopping pathway,finding that the determined value of U leads to accurate energetics without requiring a configurational-dependent *** is emphasized that the selection of U should be based on physical properties directly associated with the orbitals to which U is applied,rather than on more global properties such as band gaps and band *** comparison,we also determine U through a well-established linear-response scheme finding noticeably different values of U and consequently different formation *** origins of these discrepancies are *** case studies,we consider the self-trapped electron in BiVO_(4),the self-trapped hole in MgO,the Li-trapped hole in MgO,and the Al-trapped hole inα-SiO_(2).

Critically ill patients and gut motility: Are we addressing it?

Gastrointestinal(GI) dysmotility is a common problemin the critically ill population. It can be a reflection and an early sign of patient deterioration or it can be an independent cause of morbidity and mortality. GI dysmotility can be divided for clinical purposes on upper GI dysmotility and lower GI dysmotility. Upper GI dysmotility manifests by nausea, feeding intolerance and vomiting; its implications include aspiration into the airway of abdominal contents and underfeeding. Several strategies to prevent and treat this condition can be tried and they include prokinetics and post-pyloric feeds. It is important to note that upper GI dysmotility should be treated only when there are clinical signs of intolerance(nausea, vomiting) and not based on measurement of gastric residual volumes. Lower GI dysmotility manifests throughout the spectrum of ileus and diarrhea. Ileus can present in the small bowel and the large bowel as well. In both scenarios the initial treatment is correction of electrolyte abnormalities, avoiding drugs that can decrease motility and patient mobilization. When this fails, in the case of small bowel ileus, lactulose and polyethylene glycol solutions can be useful. In the case of colonic pseudo obstruction, neostigmine, endoscopic decompression and cecostomy can be tried when the situation reaches the risk of rupture. Diarrhea is also a common manifestation of GI dysmotility and the most important step is to differentiate between infectious sources and non-infectious sources.

The objective of this paper is to show that the Analytic Hierarchy Process （AHP） is a very powerful methodology for designing shiftwork schedules. Manufacturing, mining and other large industrial operations often run around the clock and their employees report for work in shifts. The huge number of variables and the amount of knowledge that needs to be structured, integrated and synthesized forces the need for a system analysis process that is able to deal with such complexity. Work flexibility is a very important issue in Chile and in the rest of the world. One of the main problems of a flexible work process is handling shiftwork systems with their economic, health, social, family and environmental consequences.

Chronic wounds are defined as wounds that fail to proceed through the normal phases of wound healing in an orderly and timely *** most common and inevitable impairment to wound healing is the installation of an infection,usually in the case of chronic ***,the objective of the present review was to identify the importance of copper nanoparticles in dressings for wound *** such as silver,gold and copper combat infectious processes through the inhibition of protein synthesis,peroxidation of the cell membrane and destroying the nucleic acids of bacteria and *** bioactive nanoparticles,copper plays a complex role in various cells,it modulates several cytokines and growth factor mechanisms of action and is essentially involved in all stages of the wound healing *** importantly,copper plays a key role in skin regeneration and angiogenesis and accelerates the healing process through induction of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and angiogenesis by hypoxia-induced factor-1-alpha(HIF-1α)action where copper enhances HIF-1αexpression and HIF-1αbinding to the critical motifs in the promoter and putative enhancer regions of HIF-1-regulated genes.

Planar arrays of tree diagrams were introduced as a generalization of Feynman diagrams that enable the computation of biadjoint amplitudes m_(n)(^(k))for k>*** this follow-up work,we investigate the poles of m_(n)(^(k))from the perspective of such *** general k,we characterize the underlying polytope as a Flag Complex and propose a computation of the amplitude-based solely on the knowledge of the poles,whose number is drastically less than the number of the full *** an example,we first provide all the poles for the cases(k,n)=(3,7),(3,8),(3,9),(3,10),(4,8)and(4,9)in terms of their planar arrays of degenerate Feynman *** then implement simple compatibility criteria together with an addition operation between arrays and recover the full collections/arrays for such *** the way,we implement hard and soft kinematical limits,which provide a map between the poles in kinematic space and their combinatoric *** use the operation to give a proof of a previously conjectured combinatorial duality for arrays in(k,n)and(n-k,n).We also outline the relation to boundary maps of the hypersimplex Δ_(k,n) and rays in the tropical Grassmannian Tr(k,n).
