Background and purpose In wake-up stroke,CT-based quantitative net water uptake(nWU)might serve as an alternative tool to MRI to guide intravenous thrombolysis with alteplase(IVT).An important complication after IVT is symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage(sICH).As nWU directly implies ischaemic lesion progression,reflecting blood-brain barrier injury,we hypothesised that nWU predicts sICH in patients who had a ischaemic stroke undergoing thrombectomy with unknown *** Consecutive analysis of all patients who had unknown onset anterior circulation ischaemic stroke who underwent CT at baseline and endovascular treatment between December 2016 and October *** nWU was assessed on baseline *** primary endpoint was *** association of nWU and other baseline parameters to sICH was investigated using inverse-probability weighting(IPW)*** A total of 88 patients were included,of which 46 patients(52.3%)received *** median nWU was 10.7%(IQR:5.1–17.7).The proportion of patients with any haemorrhage and sICH were 35.2%and 13.6%.nWU at baseline was significantly higher in patients with sICH(19.1%vs 9.6%,pnd the median Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score(ASPECTS)was lower(5 vs 8,png IPW,there was no association between IVT and sICH in unadjusted ***,after adjusting for ASPECTS and nWU,there was a significant association between IVT administration and sICH(14.6%,95%CI:3.3%to 25.6%,pnclusion In patients with ischaemic stroke with unknown onset,the combination of high nWU with IVT is directly linked to higher rates of *** ASPECTS for evaluating the extent of the early infarct lesion,quantitative nWU could be used as an imaging biomarker to assess the degree of blood-brain barrier damage in order to predict the risk of sICH in patients with wake up stroke.

A sensitive xanthine oxidase electrode with silk net for estimating fish freshness

An enzyme biosensor was constructed using a plate platinum electrode and immobilized xanthine oxidase (XOD). Only a very small quantity of enzyme was chemically immobilized on a special silk net. Hydrogen peroxide released during the enzymatic reaction was detected by the electrode at +0.65 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). The electrode was very sensitive to hypoxanthine and its detection limit was 1X10(-7) mol/L. When it was applied to the determination of fish freshness, the results agreed well with those obtained by traditional methods-determination of total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-n) and microbial count. A range for estimating the freshness of river fish was suggested.

A highly sensitive electrochemical sensing platform based on Zn-CuGaO@CMK-3 signal amplification for simultaneous detection of the sunset yellow and tartrazine in foods

In this work， a highly sensitive electrochemical sensor based on Zn-doped copper gallium oxide@ordered mesoporous carbon (Zn-CuGaO2@CMK-3) for signal amplification was successfully developed for the simultaneous detection of sunset yellow （SY） and tartrazine （tz） in foods. Compared with CuGaO2@CMK-3， Zn-CuGaO2@CMK-3 offered enhanced conductivity and catalytic properties owing to the improved carrier density， which was beneficial to the electrooxidation of SY and tz. Under the optimal testing conditions， the constructed Zn-CuGaO2@CMK-3/GCE sensor offered a wide linear concentration range （0.25 to 100.00 μmol/L） for the detection of both SY and tz. The limits of detection for SY and tz were 0.044 μmol/L and 0.059 μmol/L， respectively. Recovery experiments were performed in milk， white vinegar and biscuit samples， yielding satisfactory recoveries （82.70%-114.80%）. Furthermore， the sensor was successfully applied to the determination of the SY and tz residues in two kinds of carbonated drinks， and the results were nearly consistent with those detected by the high performance liquid chromatography （HPLC） method （P＞0.05）.

Visualizing the microtubule-associated protein tau in the nucleus

CT diagnosis of recurrence after pancreatic cancer:Is there a pattern?

AIM:To investigate predilection sites of recurrence of pancreatic cancer by computed tomography(CT)in follow-up after surgery. METHODS:Seventy seven patients with recurrence after pancreatic cancer surgery were retrospectively *** operative technique,R-status,T-stage and development of tumor markers were evaluated. Two radiologists analyzed CT scans with consensus *** of local recurrence,lymph node recurrence and organ metastases were *** and progression of findings on follow-up CT were con-sidered as reference standard. RESULTS:The mean follow-up interval was 3.9± 1.8 mo,with a mean relapse-free interval of 12.9± 10.4 *** predominant site of recurrence was local (65%),followed by lymph node(17%),liver metastasis (11%)and peritoneal carcinosis(7%).Local recurrence emerged at the superior mesenteric artery(n=28),the hepatic artery(n=8),in an area defined by the surrounding vessels:celiac trunk,portal vein,inferior vena cava(n=22),and in a space limited by the mesenteric artery,portal vein and inferior vena cava(n=17). Lymph node recurrence occurred in the mesenteric root and left lateral to the *** was confirmed by surgery(n=22)and follow-up CT(n=55).Tumor markers[carbohydrate antigen 19-9(CA19-9),carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)]increased in accordance with signs of recurrence in most cases(86%CA19-9;79.2% CEA). The herbal compound geniposide rescues formaldehyde-induced apoptosis in n2a neuroblastoma cells

The herbal medicine Tong Luo Jiu nao （TLJn） contains geniposide （GP） and ginsenoside Rgl at a molar ratio of i0：1. Rgl is the major component of another herbal medicine, panax notoginseng saponin （PnS）. TLJn has been shown to strengthen brain function in humans, and in animals it improves learning and memory. We have previously shown that TLJn reduces amyloi- dogenic processing in Alzheimer＇s disease （AD） mouse models. Together this suggests TLJn may be a potential treatment for patients with dementia. Because chronic damage of the central nervous system by formaldehyde （FA） has been presented as a risk factor for age-associated cognitive dysfunction, in the present study we investigated the protective effect of both TLJn and GP in neuron-like cells exposed to FA. FA-exposed murine n2a neuroblastoma cells were incubated with TLJn, its main in- gredient GP, as well as PnS, to measure cell viability and morphology, the rate of apoptosis and expression of genes encoding Akt, FOXO3, Bcl2 and p53. The CCK-8 assay, cytoskeletal staining and flow cytometry were used to test cell viability, mor- phology and apoptosis, respectively. Fluorescent quantitative real-time PCR （qRT-PCR） was used to monitor changes in gene expression, and HPLC to determine the rate of FA clearance. Treatment of n2a cells with 0.09 mmol L-1 FA for 24 h signifi- cantly reduced cell viability, changed cell morphology and promoted apoptosis. Both TLJn and GP conferred neuroprotection to FA-treated n2a cells, whereas PnS, which had to be used at lower concentrations because of its toxicity, did not. Our data demonstrate that TLJn can rescue neuronal damage caused by FA and that its main ingredient, GP, has a major role in this ef- ficacy. This presents purified GP as a drug or lead compound for the treatment of AD.
