Preclinical and clinical studies indicate that psychostimulants,in addition to having abuse potential,may elicit brain dysfunctions and/or neurotoxic *** toxicity induced by psychostimulants may pose serious health risks since the recreational use of these substances is on the rise among young people and *** present review provides an overview of recent research,conducted between 2018 and 2023,focusing on brain dysfunctions and neurotoxic effects elicited in experimental models and humans by amphetamine,cocaine,methamphetamine,3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine,methylphenidate,caffeine,and *** elucidation of factors and mechanisms that underlie psychostimulant-induced brain dysfunction and neurotoxicity is crucial for understanding the acute and enduring noxious brain effects that may occur in individuals who use psychostimulants for recreational and/or therapeutic purposes.

Deep brain stimulation has become a well-established symptomatic treatment for Parkinson＇s disease during the last 25 years. Besides improving motor symptoms and long-term motor complications, positive effects on patients＇ mobility, activities of daily living, emotional well-being and health-related quality of life have been recognized. Apart from that, numerous clinical trials analyzed effects on non-motor symptoms and side effects of deep brain stimulation. Several technical issues and stimulation paradigms have been and are still being developed to optimize the therapeutic effects, minimize the side effects and facilitate handling. This review summarizes current therapeutic issues, i.e., patient and target selection, surgical procedure and programming paradigms. In addition it focuses on neuropsychological effects and side effects of deep brain stimulation.

Seaweeds are macroalgae,which can be of many different morphologies,sizes,colors,and chemical *** include brown,red,and green *** seaweeds have been more investigated and exploited in comparison to other seaweed types for their use in animal feeding studies due to their large sizes and ease of *** in vitro and in vivo studies suggest that plant secondary compound-containing seaweeds(e.g.,halogenated compounds,phlorotannins,etc.)have the potential to mitigate enteric methane(CH_(4))emissions from ruminants when added to the diets of beef and dairy *** seaweeds including Asparagopsis *** rich in crude protein and halogenated compounds compared to brown and green *** halogenated-containing red seaweeds are used as the active ingredient in ruminant diets,bromoform concentration can be used as an indicator of antimethanogenic ***-containing brown seaweed has also the potential to decrease CH_(4) ***,numerous studies examined the possible anti-methanogenic effects of marine seaweeds with inconsistent *** work reviews existing data associated with seaweeds and in vitro and in vivo rumen fermentation,animal performance,and enteric CH4 emissions in *** understanding of the seaweed supplementation related to rumen fermentation and its effect on animal performance and CH_(4) emissions in ruminants may lead to novel strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions while improving animal productivity.

We hypothesize that for disaster risk mitigation,many households,despite being aware of their risk and possible mitigation actions,never seriously consider doing anything about *** mitigation-focused decisions,since there is no equivalent to warning messages,the decision process is likely to evolve over an extended *** explore what activates hurricane mitigation protective action decisions through three research questions:(1)to what extent are homeowners unengaged in protective action decision making?(2)What homeowner characteristics are associated with lack of engagement?And(3)to what extent do different life events trigger engagement in the decision-making process?We use the Precaution Adoption Process Model to conceptualize engagement as distinct from decision making;the broader protective action decision-making literature to explore drivers of engagement;and Life Course Theory to examine potential transitions from unengaged to *** use survey data of homeowners in North Carolina to examine these questions *** suggest that one-third of respondents had never engaged in protective action decisions,that life experiences differ in their occurrence frequency and effect on households’mitigation decisions,and that some events,such as renovating,reroofing,or purchasing a home may offer critical moments that could be leveraged to encourage greater engagement in mitigation decision making.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are multipotent and self-renewing stem cellsthat have great potential as cell therapy for autoimmune and inflammatorydisorders, as well as for other clinical conditions, due to their immunoregulatoryand regenerative properties. MSCs modulate the inflammatory milieu by releasingsoluble factors and acting through cell-to-cell mechanisms. MSCs switch theclassical inflammatory status of monocytes and macrophages towards a nonclassicaland anti-inflammatory phenotype. This is characterized by an increasedsecretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines, a decreased release of pro-inflammatorycytokines, and changes in the expression of cell membrane molecules and inmetabolic pathways. The MSC modulation of monocyte and macrophage phenotypesseems to be critical for therapy effectiveness in several disease models, sincewhen these cells are depleted, no immunoregulatory effects are observed. Here,we review the effects of living MSCs (metabolically active cells) and metabolicallyinactive MSCs (dead cells that lost metabolic activity by induced inactivation) andtheir derivatives (extracellular vesicles, soluble factors, extracts, and microparticles)on the profile of macrophages and monocytes and the implications forimmunoregulatory and reparative processes. This review includes mechanisms ofaction exhibited in these different therapeutic appro-aches, which induce the antiinflammatoryproperties of monocytes and macrophages. Finally, we overviewseveral possibilities of therapeutic applications of these cells and their derivatives,with results regarding monocytes and macrophages in animal model studies andsome clinical trials.

Objective Several clinical obstructive sleep apnea syndrome(OSAS)phenotypes associated with heterogeneous cardiovascular risk profiles have been recently *** purpose of this study was to identify clusters amongst these profiles that allow for the differentiation of *** This retrospective study included all moderate-to-severe OSAS patients referred to the sleep unit over a 5-year ***,symptom,comorbidity,polysomnographic,and continuous positive airway pressure(CPAP)adherence data were *** analyses were performed to identify clusters of *** A total of 567 patients were included(67%men,54±13 years,body mass index:32±7 kg/m2,65%Caucasian,32%European African).Five clusters were identified:less severe OSAS(n=172);healthier severe OSAS(n=160);poorly sleeping OSAS patients with cardiometabolic comorbidities(n=87);younger obese men with sleepiness at the wheel(n=94);sleepy obese men with very severe desaturating OSAS and cardiometabolic comorbidities(n=54).Patients in clusters 3 and 5 were older than those in clusters 2 and 4(P=0.034).Patients in clusters 4 and 5 were significantly more obese than those in the other clusters(P=0.04).No significant differences were detected in terms of symptoms and *** profiles were very discriminating between *** adherence was similar in all clusters but,among adherent patients,daily usage was more important in cluster 1(less severe patients)than in cluster *** This study highlights that the typical sleepy obese middle-aged men with desaturating events represent only a minority of patients in our multi-ethnic moderate-to-severe OSAS cohort of 33%females.
