Objective: Although Angelica archangelica is a medicinal and aromatic plant with a long history of use for both medicinal and food purposes, there are no studies regarding the antineoplastic activity of its *** study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxicity and antitumor effects of the crude extract of A. archangelica root(CEAA) on breast ***: The cytotoxicity of CEAA against breast adenocarcinoma cells(4T1 and mCF-7) was evaluated by a 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide(mTT) assay. morphological and biochemical changes were detected by Hoechst 33342/propidium iodide(PI) and annexin V/PI staining. Cytosolic calcium mobilization was evaluated in cells staining with FURA-4 NW. Immunoblotting was used to determine the effect of CEAA on anti-and pro-apoptotic proteins(Bcl-2 and Bax, respectively).The 4 T1 cell-challenged mice were used for in vivo ***: Using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis, angelicin, a constituent of the roots and leaves of A. archangelica, was found to be the major constituent of the CEAA evaluated in this study(73 mg/mL). The CEAA was cytotoxic for both breast cancer cell lines studied but not for human fibroblasts. Treatment of 4 T1 cells with the CEAA increased Bax protein levels accompanied by decreased Bcl-2 expression, in the presence of cleaved caspase-3 and cytosolic calcium mobilization, suggesting mitochondrial involvement in breast cancer cell death induced by the CEAA in this cell line. No changes on the Bcl-2/Bax ratio were observed in CEAA-treated mCF7 cells. Gavage administration of the CEAA(500 mg/kg) to 4T1 cell-challenged mice significantly decreased tumor growth when compared with untreated ***: Altogether, our data show the antitumor potential of the CEAA against breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Further research is necessary to better elucidate the pharmacological application of the CEAA in breast cancer therapy.

This experiment aimed to evaluate the ruminal degradability in situ of the dry matter (Dm), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) of Guinea grass silages. The experimental design was completely randomized with six treatments and six repetitions: Guinea grass silage, Guinea grass silage inoculated with 10% wheat bran, Guinea grass silage inoculated with 106 cfu/g of strains of Streptococcus bovis jB1;Guinea grass silage inoculated with 106 cfu/g of strains of Streptococcus bovis jB1 plus 10% of wheat bran;Guinea grass silage inoculated with 106 cfu/g of strains of Streptococcus bovis HC5;Guinea grass silage inoculated with 106 cfu/g of strains of Streptococcus bovis HC5 plus 10% of wheat bran. The silages inoculated with Streptococcus bovis and with added wheat bran resulted in higher values of ruminal degradability of Dm, 32.76% and 32.17%, and of crude protein 38.28% and 37.89%. For the effective and potential degradability of Dm, CP, NDF and ADF the highest values occurred for silages in these silages as well, in all passage rates. There is a similarity between the responses of Streptococcus bovis jB1 and the HC5, and the wheat bran enhanced the effectiveness of the microbial additive.

In the period 2003-2011, lightning over-voltages accounted for about 47% of the total number of distribution transformer failures observed in the service area ofAES Sul, a power company that operates in the state of Rio Grande doSul, in South Brazil. This paper presents the results of an investigation on the influence of the distance between transformer and mV arresters on the surges at the transformer windings caused by direct strikes to the mV network. The analysis, performed through simulations using the Alternative Transients Program, shows that in general higher voltages are produced by subsequent strokes. Although in relation to the primary side the surges transferred to the secondary are much less affected by the distance between transformers and primary arresters, such distance should always be kept as short as possible in order to reduce the probability of occurrence of transformer failures due to over-voltages at the mV bushings.

Purpose: To evaluate the management of traumatic injuries of accident victims in the city of Ouagadougou admitted to the trauma emergencies of the University Hospital of Ouagadougou. material and method: This was a descriptive prospective study of road traffic accident victims in the city of Ouagadougou on their arrival at trauma emergencies and on the 7th and 30th day after their discharge. A total of 991 patients were identified. The sex ratio was 1.94 with a male predominance. The average age of the patients was 31.5 years. The ratio of caregivers to patients on a 24-hour shift was 7/47, excluding patients hospitalized in the corridors. Results: We note that 81.94% of patients were transported by the fire brigade. The average time to first contact with a caregiver was 11 minutes. Upon admission, accident victims were accompanied in 84% of cases. The combination of paracetamol and néfopam was the most prescribed analgesic (50.2%). The average time between admission and X-ray completion was 101 minutes. Benign skin lesions were the most frequent (48.82%), followed by osteoarticular lesions of the limbs (fractures and dislocations). Ceftriaxone, and the combination of Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid, were the most prescribed antibiotics. Dressings and sutures (44.63%) were the most commonly performed treatments, followed by orthopaedic restraints (37.88%) and open fracture areas in 14.34%. The average time between admission and orthopaedic and/or surgical treatment was 04 hours 25 minutes. Patients discharged against medical advice accounted for 10.80% of cases. In 95% of cases, patients were satisfied with their management. Conclusion: The management of patients admitted to trauma emergencies is satisfactory, but difficulties remain in terms of delays in management. It is imperative to take into account certain factors involving both staff and working conditions in order to reduce the time required to provide care and improve user satisfaction in this emergency unit.

The major constituent from the hexane extract of the seeds ofP. insignis is GFC （garcinielliptone FC）. Doses of 25, 50 and 75 mg/kg of GFC were aseptically suspended in 0.05% Tween 80 dissolved in 0.9% saline （vehicle） and orally administered for 30, 90 and 120 consecutive days to adult Swiss mice. In this work, the repeated oral administration, in animals of both sexes, demonstrates that this compound is not able to induce mortality and/or behavioral changes in adult mice. In addition, body weight gain, feed intake and disposal of excreta were not altered by the administration of this compound with repeated doses. Furthermore, no differences in weight and macroscopic structure of the brain, liver, kidney, lung, heart and spleen between groups of male and female adult mice were observed after treatment. During the periods of treatment, GFC produced no significant changes on haematological and biochemical parameters in male and female mice treated with all doses used. The aim of this study was to investigate the toxicological potential of GFC through behavioral, hematological, biochemical and morphological parameters in animals in order to ensure the safe use ofPlatonia insignis in folk medicine.
