The chronic shortage of organs and tissues for transplantation represents a dramatic burden on healthcare systems *** engineering offers a potential solution to address these shortages,but several challenges remain,with prevascularization being a critical factor for in vivo survival and integration of tissue engineering ***,a different challenge hindering the clinical implementation of such products,regards their efficient preservation from the fabrication site to the *** has emerged as a potential solution for this issue due to its milder effects on biologic systems in comparison with other cold preservation *** impact on prevascularization,however,has not been well *** this work,3D prevascularized constructs were fabricated using adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction cells and preserved at 4◦C using Hypothermosol or basal culture media(α-MEM).Hypothermosol efficiently preserved the structural and cellular integrity of prevascular networks as compared to constructs before *** contrast,the use ofα-MEM led to a clear reduction in prevascular structures,with concurrent induction of high levels of apoptosis and autophagy at the cellular *** vivo evaluation using a chorioallantoic membrane model demonstrated that,in opposition toα-MEM,Hypothermosol preservation retained the angiogenic potential of constructs before preservation by recruiting a similar number of blood vessels from the host and presenting similar integration with host *** results emphasize the need of studying the impact of preservation techniques on key properties of tissue engineering constructs such as prevascularization,in order to validate and streamline their clinical application.

Comprehensive studies identify motor neuron spectrum disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)as globally rising fatal disorders with the highest prevalence in aging populations,influenced by ethnicity and ancestry(GBD 2016 Motor Neuron Disease Colla borators,2018).While~10% of diagnoses involve a family history(fALS),most cases are considered sporadic(sALS).However,population-based studies suggest that even cases without a common index mutation impart heritability(Ryan et al.,2019),indicating a crucial role of rare and as yet unknown genetic denominators.

Adjusted macroeconomic indicators to account for ecosystem degradation:an illustrative example

Adjusting macroeconomic indicators to account for the depletion and degradation of natural capital has long been viewed as a way to show the linkages between nature and the economy and foster more sustainable paths of ***,we show how the System of Environmental Economic Accounting(SEEA)Experimental Ecosystem Accounting(EEA)can be used to develop environmentally adjusted macroeconomic *** specifically,we show how an enlargement of the production boundary to include the consideration of ecosystems as institutional units allows the development of a net value added metric that reflects depreciation and degradation of the natural capital *** measurement could be useful for policymaking:the linkage of ecosystem services to economic activities allows us to account for loss,repair and substitution of natural capital,and thus helps us to formulate and monitor environmental policies.

Transplantation of bone marrow derived macrophages reduces markers of neuropathology in an App/pS1 mouse model

Background:We investigated early hallmarks of putative therapeutic effects following systemic transplantation of bone marrow derived macrophages(BM-M)in App/pS1 transgenic ***:BM-M were transplanted into the tail vein and the animals analysed 1 month ***:BM-M transplantation promoted the reduction of the amyloid beta[37-42]plaque number and size in the cortex and hippocampus of the treated mice,but no change in the more heavily modified pyroglutamate amyloid beta E3 *** number of phenotypically‘small’microglia increased in the *** size decreased overall,indicating a reduction of activated *** expression of interleukin 6 and 10,interferongamma,and prostaglandin E receptor 2 was significantly lower in the hippocampus,while interleukin 10 expression was elevated in the cortex of the treated ***:BM-M systemically transplanted,promote a decrease in neuroinflammation and a limited reversion of amyloid *** exploratory study may support the potential of BM-M or microglia-like cell therapy and further illuminates the mechanisms of action associated with such transplants.

pressure-induced structural changes cause large enhancement of photoluminescence in halide perovskites: a quantitative relationship

Halide perovskites containing both organic and inorganic cations are receiving extensive attention for their promising optoelectronic properties, including photoluminescence (pL)[1,2]. Tuning these properties for specific applications and designing and synthesizing perovskites with optimized properties are major goals of materials science. These goals will be achieved faster and more economically by harnessing a fundamental understanding of structure–property relations, rather than by random searches for better materials. Chemical composition,temperature and pressure are the major‘knobs’ one can turn to adjust properties such as conductivity and bandgap[1,3]. “pachyostosis” in aquatic amniotes: a review

Social epigenomics is a new field of research that studies how the social environment shapes the epigenome and how in turn the epigenome modulates *** focus on describing known gene-environment interactions(GEIs)and epigenetic mechanisms in different mammalian social *** illustrate how epigenetic mechanisms integrate GEIs,we highlight examples where epigenetic mechanisms are associated with social behaviors and with their maintenance through neuroendocrine,locomotor,and metabolic *** discuss future research trajectories and open questions for the emerging field of social epigenomics in nonmodel and naturally occurring social ***,we outline the technological advances that aid the study of epigenetic mechanisms in the establishment of GEIs and vice versa.

Diagnosis of colonic amebiasis and coexisting signet-ring cell carcinoma in intestinal biopsy

Amebiasis is uncommon in developed countries. Several case reports in the literature emphasize that both the presenting symptoms and the radiological findings of colonic amebiasis closely resemble more common conditions, such as idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease and gastro-intestinal malignancy. We describe a unique case of colonic amebiasis(amebomas) coexisting with signet-ring cell carcinoma of the ileocecal valve, the cecum and the appendix. Endoscopically, the ulcerated tumor was indistinguishable from the ulcerations and pseudotumors(amebomas) detected in the ascending colon. Histological examination of biopsy specimens revealed the pathognomonic features of protozoa with ingested erythrocytes in combination with signet-ring cell infiltration. The author concludes that amebiasis may not only mimic carcinoma but, rarely, may coexist with carcinoma in the same patient. Clinicians and pathologists should be aware of this possibility in order not to delay diagnosis and treatment of malignant disease.

How do project-oriented organizations enhance innovation?An institutional theory perspective

A project-oriented organization is a hybrid form of organization where a functional hierarchy is augmented with structures to manage projects strategically across the *** project-oriented organizations from diverse industries that emphasize innovation in their strategies were selected for this *** use the three pillars of institutional theory—regulative,normative and cultural-cognitive—and institutional entrepreneurship to analyze interview data from executive and project,program and portfolio management personnel in the project-oriented organizations to investigate how innovation is facilitated through external influences and internal *** findings indicate that processes and new structures provide effective ways for innovation and,while individuals are important,processes are more effective than individuals at enabling *** put forward some lessons for practice that emerge directly from the findings,including suggestions on improving allocation of resources,a need to focus on processes,reconceptualization of“failure”,and dedicated investment in market knowledge,customer knowledge,performance metrics and flexible governance structures.

pandemic prevention and personality psychology: Gender differences in preventive health behaviors during COVID-19 and the roles of agreeableness and conscientiousness

One of the greatest public health crises in recent times,the COVID-19 pandemic,has come with a myriad of challenges in terms of health communication and public cooperation to prevent the spread of the ***-derstanding which are the key determinants that make certain individuals more cooperative is key in effectively tackling pandemics and similar future *** the present study(N=800),we investigated whether gen-der differences in compliance with preventive health behaviors(pHB)at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic could be established,and,if so,whether the personality traits of agreeableness and conscientiousness could help explain this presumed *** with our theorizing,we found women to score higher than men on agreeableness and conscientiousness,and to be more willing to comply with a set of ***,both per-sonality traits were found to mediate the gender-compliance *** means that women’s greater compliance levels with pHB could,at least in part,be attributed to their higher agreeableness and conscientiousness scores.A greater understanding of the determinants of pHB in terms of gender and associated personality traits may help identify options for developing more effective communication campaigns,both in terms of communication channel selection and message content.
