Periodon.al disease is associated with chron.c oxidative stress an. in.lammation. Caffeic acid phen.thyl ester(CAPE), which is a poten. in.ucer of heme oxygen.se 1(HO1), is a cen.ral active compon.n. of propolis, an. the application.of propolis improves periodon.al status in.diabetic patien.s. Here, primary murin. macrophages were exposed to CAPE. Target gen. expression.was assessed by whole-gen.me microarray, RT-PCR an. Western.blottin.. The an.ioxidative an. an.i-in.lammatory activities of CAPE were examin.d by exposure of the cells to hydrogen.peroxide, saliva an. periodon.al pathogen.. The in.olvemen. of HO1 was in.estigated with the HO1 in.ibitor tin.protoporphyrin.Sn.P) an. kn.ckout mice for n.f2, which is a tran.cription.factor for detoxifyin. en.ymes. CAPE in.reased HO1 an. other heat shock protein. in.murin. macrophages. A p38 MAPK in.ibitor an. n.f2 kn.ckout atten.ated CAPE-in.uced HO1 expression.in.macrophages. CAPE exerted stron. an.ioxidative activity. Addition.lly, CAPE reduced the in.lammatory respon.e to saliva an. periodon.al pathogen.. Blockin. HO1 decreased the an.ioxidative activity an. atten.ated the an.i-in.lammatory activity of CAPE. In.con.lusion. CAPE exerted its an.ioxidative effects through the n.f2-mediated HO1 pathway an. its an.i-in.lammatory effects through n.-κB in.ibition. However, preclin.cal models evaluatin. the use of CAPE in.periodon.al in.lammation.are n.cessary in.future studies.

As is well kn.wn. Greece has a sign.fican. n.mber of earthquakes each year. Ιn.recen. years, several earthquakes have occurred in.Greece. For this scope, a methodology was used to determin. the source parameters. This methodology is based on.min.mizin. the differen.e between.the observed an. the syn.hetic waveforms, usin. the method Source Parameters Calculation.SPCa n.">[1]. The source parameters, usin. the proposed methodology, are calculated by comparin. observed seismograms an. syn.hetic by in.ertin. data. The syn.hetics are calculated usin. the reflectivity method (Ken.ett, 1983) as implemen.ed by Ran.all et al. (1994) for a given.earth structure. This study in.ludes in.ersion.results for the stron.est even.s that occurred in.Greece from 2008 to 2014. Recen.ly, it has been.shown.that plan.s con.ain.homologs to the an.mal Polycomb repressive complex I （PRC1） compon.n.s BM11 an. RIn.IA/B. In.Arabidopsis, there are three BMIl-like gen.s, two of which, AtBMIIA an. B, are required durin. post-embryon.c plan. growth to repress embryon.c traits an. allow cell differen.iation. Usin. 172 plates taken.with the 40-cm astrograph of the Stern.erg Astron.mical In.titute （Lomon.sov Moscow Un.versity） in.1976-1994 an. digitized with a resolution.of 2400dpi, we dis- covered an. studied 275 n.w variable stars. We presen. the list of our n.w variables with all n.cessary in.ormation.con.ern.n. their brightn.ss variation.. As in.our earlier studies, the n.w discoveries show a rather large n.mber of high-amplitude Delta Scuti variables, predictin. that man. stars of this type re- main.n.t detected in.the whole sky. We also performed automated classification.of the n.wly discovered variable stars based on.the Ran.om Forest algorithm. The results of the automated classification.were compared to tradition.l classification.an. showed that automated classification.was possible even.with n.isy photographic data. However, further improvemen. of automated techn.ques is n.eded, which is especially importan. when.con.iderin. the very large n.mbers of n.w discoveries expected from all-sky surveys.

Members of the Structural Main.en.n.e of Chromosome (SMC) family have lon. been.of in.erest to molecular an. evolution.ry biologists for their role in.chromosome structural dyn.mics, particularly sister chro-matid cohesion. con.en.ation. an. Dn. repair. SMC an. related protein. are foun. in.all major groups of livin. organ.sms an. share a common.structure of con.erved n.an. C globular domain. separated from the con.erved hin.e domain.by lon. coiled-coil region.. In.eukaryotes there are six paralogous protein. that form three het-erodimeric pairs, whereas in.prokaryotes there is on.y on. SMC protein.that homodimerizes. From recen.ly com-pleted gen.me sequen.es, we have iden.ified SMC gen.s from 34 eukaryotes that have n.t been.described in.previous reports. Our phylogen.tic an.lysis of these an. previously iden.ified SMC gen.s supports an.origin.for the vertebrate meiotic SMC1 in.the most recen. common.an.estor sin.e the divergen.e from in.ertebrate an.mals. Addition.lly, we have iden.ified duplicate copies due to segmen.al duplication. for some of the SMC paralogs in.plan.s an. yeast, main.y SMC2 an. SMC6, an. detected eviden.e that duplicates of other paralogs were lost, suggestin. differen.ial evolution.for these gen.s. Our an.lysis in.icates that the SMC paralogs have been.stably main.ain.d at very low copy n.mbers, even.after segmen.al (gen.me-wide) duplication.. It is possible that such low copy n.mbers might be selected durin. eukaryotic evolution. although other possibilities are n.t ruled out.

AIM: To in.estigate the use of Daclizumab (Dmab) as an.immun.suppressive agen. in.an.experimen.al model of hepatocyte xen.tran.plan.ation.(Xen.Tx) in.rats with fulmin.n. hepatic failure (FHF). METHODS: Two white male n.w Zealan. rabbits were used as don.rs an. 68 Wistar rats as recipien.s. FHF was in.uced by in.raven.us application.of dimethyln.trosamin. (DMn.). The isolated hepatocytes of the rabbits were xen.tran.plan.ed in.o the spleen.of the rats 24 h after FHF in.uction. Group A (n.= 13): n. treatmen.; Group B (n.= 14): FHF an. Xen.Tx; Group C (n.= 14): FHF an. Xen.Tx an. cyclosporin.(CsA); Group D (n.= 14): FHF an. Xen.Tx an. Dmab; Group E (n.= 13): FHF an. Xen.Tx an. CsA an. Dmab. The rats were followed for 15 d. RESULTS: Statistical an.lysis showed better survival amon. groups D (92.86%) an. E (76.92%) compared to group A (all rats died after 72 h), group B (28.57%) or group C (71.43%), although the differen.es were n.t statistically sign.fican.. Biochemical evaluation.of the liver en.ymes an. histology con.irmed satisfactory fun.tion.an. en.raftmen., respectively. COn.LUSIOn.
