High entropy fluorides as conversion cathodes with tailorable electrochemical performance

With the recent development of high entropy materials, an alternative approach to develop advanced functional materials with distinctive properties that show improved values compared to conventional materials has been provided. The high entropy concept was later successfully transferred to metal fluorides and high entropy fluorides(HEFs) were successfully synthesized. Owing to their high theoretical specific capacities in energy storage applications, HEFs were utilized as cathode materials for lithiumion batteries(LIBs) and their underlying storage mechanisms were investigated. Instead of a step-bystep reduction of each individual metal cation, the HEFs seem to exhibit a single-step reduction process,indicating a solid solution compound instead of merely a mixture of different metal fluorides. It was also observed that the electrochemical behavior of the HEFs depends on each individual incorporated element. Therefore, by altering the elemental composition, new materials that exhibit improved electrochemical properties can be designed. Remarkably, HEFs with seven incorporated metal elements exhibited a better cycling stability as well as a lower hysteresis compared to binary metal *** findings offer new guidelines for material design and tailoring towards high performance LIBs.

Comprehensive studies identify motor neuron spectrum disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)as globally rising fatal disorders with the highest prevalence in aging populations,influenced by ethnicity and ancestry(GBD 2016 Motor Neuron Disease Colla borators,2018).While~10% of diagnoses involve a family history(fALS),most cases are considered sporadic(sALS).However,population-based studies suggest that even cases without a common index mutation impart heritability(Ryan et al.,2019),indicating a crucial role of rare and as yet unknown genetic denominators.

Pressure-induced structural changes cause large enhancement of photoluminescence in halide perovskites: a quantitative relationship

Halide perovskites containing both organic and inorganic cations are receiving extensive attention for their promising optoelectronic properties, including photoluminescence (PL)[1,2]. Tuning these properties for specific applications and designing and synthesizing perovskites with optimized properties are major goals of materials science. These goals will be achieved faster and more economically by harnessing a fundamental understanding of structure–property relations, rather than by random searches for better materials. “Pachyostosis” in aquatic amniotes: a review

Diagnosis of colonic amebiasis and coexisting signet-ring cell carcinoma in intestinal biopsy

Amebiasis is uncommon in developed countries. Several case reports in the literature emphasize that both the presenting symptoms and the radiological findings of colonic amebiasis closely resemble more common conditions, such as idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease and gastro-intestinal malignancy. We describe a unique case of colonic amebiasis(amebomas) coexisting with signet-ring cell carcinoma of the ileocecal valve, the cecum and the appendix. Endoscopically, the ulcerated tumor was indistinguishable from the ulcerations and pseudotumors(amebomas) detected in the ascending colon. Histological examination of biopsy specimens revealed the pathognomonic features of protozoa with ingested erythrocytes in combination with signet-ring cell infiltration. The author concludes that amebiasis may not only mimic carcinoma but, rarely, may coexist with carcinoma in the same patient. Clinicians and pathologists should be aware of this possibility in order not to delay diagnosis and treatment of malignant disease.

Pandemic prevention and personality psychology: Gender differences in preventive health behaviors during COVID-19 and the roles of agreeableness and conscientiousness

One of the greatest public health crises in recent times,the COVID-19 pandemic,has come with a myriad of challenges in terms of health communication and public cooperation to prevent the spread of the ***-derstanding which are the key determinants that make certain individuals more cooperative is key in effectively tackling pandemics and similar future *** the present study(N=800),we investigated whether gen-der differences in compliance with preventive health behaviors(PHB)at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic could be established,and,if so,whether the personality traits of agreeableness and conscientiousness could help explain this presumed *** with our theorizing,we found women to score higher than men on agreeableness and conscientiousness,and to be more willing to comply with a set of ***,both per-sonality traits were found to mediate the gender-compliance *** means that women’s greater compliance levels with PHB could,at least in part,be attributed to their higher agreeableness and conscientiousness scores.A greater understanding of the determinants of PHB in terms of gender and associated personality traits may help identify options for developing more effective communication campaigns,both in terms of communication channel selection and message content.

Lineage plasticity-mediated therapy resistance in prostate cancer

Therapy resistance is a significant challenge for prostate cancer treatment in clinic. Although targeted therapies such as androgen deprivation and androgen receptor (AR) inhibition are effective initially, tumor cells eventually evade these strategies through multiple mechanisms. Lineage reprogramming in response to hormone therapy represents a key mechanism that is increasingly observed. The studies in this area have revealed specific combinations of alterations present in adenocarcinomas that provide cells with the ability to transdifferentiate and perpetuate AR-independent tumor growth after androgen-based therapies. Interestingly, several master regulators have been identified that drive plasticity, some of which also play key roles during development and differentiation of the cell lineages in the normal prostate. Thus, further study of each AR-independent tumor type and understanding underlying mechanisms are warranted to develop combinational therapies that combat lineage plasticity in prostate cancer.

Accurate and temporally consistent modeling of human bodies is essential for a wide range of applications,including character animation,understanding human social behavior,and AR/VR *** human motion accurately from a monocular image sequence remains challenging;modeling quality is strongly influenced by temporal consistency of the captured body *** work presents an elegant solution to integrating temporal constraints during *** increases both temporal consistency and robustness during *** detail,we derive parameters of a sequence of body models,representing shape and motion of a *** optimize these parameters over the complete image sequence,fitting a single consistent body shape while imposing temporal consistency on the body motion,assuming body joint trajectories to be linear over short *** approach enables the derivation of realistic 3D body models from image sequences,including jaw pose,facial expression,and articulated *** experiments show that our approach accurately estimates body shape and motion,even for challenging movements and ***,we apply it to the particular application of sign language analysis,where accurate and temporally consistent motion modelling is essential,and show that the approach is well-suited to this kind of application.

Optimisation of zeolite LTA synthesis from alum sludge and the influence of the sludge source

Generation of alum sludge(AS)at drinking water treatment plants represents an environmental liability and adds to the cost of water ***,this study explored the feasibility of using low and high carbon containing alum sludge from two water treatment plants to synthesize zeolite *** hypothesis was that zeolite LTA synthesis was dependant upon alum sludge source and that a range of strategies may be required to optimize zeolite *** characteristics such as morphology,phase composition,crystallinity,and particle size distribution were recorded."One pot"hydrothermal synthesis of precursor gel with molar composition 4.2 Na2O:Al2O3:1.2 SiO_(2):168 H2O at 80℃ for 3 hr resulted in 25 and 46 wt.%zeolite LTA from high and low carbonaceous sludge,*** to hydrothermal reaction stage it was discovered that ageing of the gel,addition of zeolite LTA seeds,ultrasonic treatment and calcination all promoted zeolite LTA *** of the alum sludge at 700℃ for 2 hr before hydrothermal synthesis resulted in particle size reduction and the highest amount of crystalline zeolite LTA:79 wt.%from low carbon sludge and 65 wt.%from high carbon ***,the zeolite crystallinity reported in this study was the higher than previous studies on this *** outlined approach may allow value adding of alum waste and produce a commodity which could be used locally by the water treatment plant as a water softener.

The creation of intergrown layer-like zeolite crystals is one route to form hierarchical ***-type(FAU-type)zeolites are among the industrially most important zeolites and the implementation of hierarchical porosity is a promising way to optimise their catalytic and adsorptive *** a short general survey into routes for the preparation of hierarchical pore systems in FAU,we will review the currently existing strategies for the synthesis of FAU with layer-like *** strategies are mainly based on the presence of morphology modifying agents in the synthesis ***,a very recent approach is the synthesis of layer-like FAU-type zeolite crystals assembled in an intergrown manner in the absence of such additives,just by finely adjusting the crystallization *** additive-free preparation route for layer-like FAU,which appears very attractive from an ecological as well as economic point of view,is highlighted in this ***,a comparison,including powder X-ray diffraction,scanning and transmission electron microscopy,nitrogen physisorption and elemental analysis,between conventional FAU and three layer-like FAU obtained by different synthesis routes was carried out to show the structural,morphological and textural differences and similarities of these materials.
