The olfactory system of Pieris brassicae caterpllars:from receptors to glomeruli

Tolfactory system of adult lepidopterans is among the best described neuronal ***,comparatively little is known about the organization of the olfactory system in the larval stage of these ***,we explore the expression of olfactory receptors and the organization of olfactory sensory neurons in caterpillars of Pieris brassicae,a significant pest species in Europe and a well-studied species for its chemical *** describe the larval olfactory system in this species,we first analyzed the head transcriptome of third-instar larvae(L3)and identified 16 odorant receptors(Ors)including the Or coreceptor(Orco),13 ionotropic receptors(Irs),and 8 gustatory receptors(Grs).We then quantified the expression of these 16 Ors in different life stages,using qPCr,and found that the majority of Ors had significantly higher expression in the L4 stage than in the L3 and L5 stages,indicating that the larval olfactory system is not static throughout caterpillar *** an Orco-specific antibody,we identified all olfactory receptor neurons(OrNs)expressing the Orco protein in L3,L4,and L5 caterpillars and found a total of 34 Orco-positive OrNs,distributed among three sensilla on the *** number of Orco-positive OrNs did not differ among the three larval ***,we used retrograde axon tracing of the antennal nerve and identified a mean of 15 glomeruli in the larval antennal center(LAC),suggesting that the caterpillar olfactory system follows a similar design as the adult olfactory system,although with a lower numerical *** together,our results provide a detailed analysis of the larval olfactory neurons in P brassicae,highlighting both the differences as well as the commonalities with the adult olfactory *** findings contribute to a better understanding of the development of the olfactory system in insects and its life-stage-specific adaptations.

Vranic site is a sand quarry that is located on the southern foothills of Papuk *** bottom to top of the succession,three sedimentary units have been recognized as:Unit 1 containing massive sand with scattered gravel-sized clasts,marl cobbles and boulders,and abundant marine mammal and fish fossils;Unit 2 consisting of sand intercalated with silt,clay and gravel,which may be horizontally bedded;and Unit 3,which is an erosionally-based lenticular matrix to clast-supported structureless *** basal part of Unit 1 shows numerous reworked skeletal remains of miocene marine *** radionuclides constrain the age of burial of Unit 1 to 895±211 ka,while the source area of Unit 1 had a quick *** massive sands deposited on the slopes of Papuk mountain were vulnerable to erosion due to the absence of *** rainfall or water from snow melting created flash floods that infiltrated the sands,thereby causing slope destabilization and *** process led to slumps that were transformed into a sandy debris *** sediment was probably deposited during the interglacial marine isotope age(mIS)21 period when the scarce vegetation and a warmer climate favored the melting of permafrost ice and consequently triggered slope movements during mIS *** reworked skeletal material sampled at the Vranic site comprises fossilized fish along with mammal bones and ***,the Vranic site represents an important site for cetacean fossil remains and serves as an important data source for marine life in the Central Paratethys.

The glacial history of Pico de Orizaba indicates that during the Last Glacial maximum,its icecap covered up to~3000 m asl;due to the air temperature increasing,its main glacier has retreated to 5050 m *** retraction of the glacier has left behind an intense climatic instability that causes a high frequency of freeze-thaw cycles of great intensity;the resulting geomorphological processes are represented by the fragmentation of the bedrock that occupies the upper parts of the *** is a notable lack of studies regarding the fragmentation and erosion occurring in tropical high mountains,and the associated geomorphological risks;for this reason,as a first stage of future continuous research,this study analyzes the freezing and thawing cycles that occur above 4000 m asl,through continuous monitoring of surface ground *** results allow us to identify and characterize four zones:glacial,paraglacial,periglacial and *** was found that the paraglacial zone presents an intense drop of temperature,of up to~9℃ in only sixty *** rock fatigue and intense freeze-thaw cycles that occur in this area are responsible for the high rate of rock disintegration and represent the main factor of the constant slope dynamics that occur at the *** activity decreases,both in frequency and intensity,according to the distance to the glacier,which is where the temperature presents a certain degree of stability,until reaching the proglacial zone,where cycles are almost non-existent,and therefore there is no gelifraction *** geomorphological processes have resulted in significant alterations to the mountain slopes,which can have severe consequences in terms of risk and water.

Transient adhesion effects in rolling–sliding contacts influence all aspects of train–track *** is of high importance specifically when these effects result in critically low adhesion,which poses a risk to traction and braking of railway *** study presents a model that can replicate the transient changes of the coefficient of adhesion with tested water and solid particle *** experimental data for the model are measured using a commercial ball-on-disc *** experimental results showed a liquid reservoir in front of the contact area that slowly reduces in *** observation was used in the modelling approach to divide the calculation into two stages where the reservoir is present and when it *** model was able to reproduce the occurrence of low adhesion region seen in experimental results with different particle concentrations.

The continuing growth of modern big cities leads to their spatial expansion and the emergence of new road connections and urban *** where large transportation flows of pedestrians,passengers,and drivers come together create demand points,which attract business companies that strive to allocate their resources in the most sought-after ***,the law of supply and demand restrains companies from allocating all their resources solely in the most popular congestion areas since the more valuable an urban area,the higher the cost to be paid for a resource unit allocation *** a result,companies act in a non-cooperative manner and try to minimize their own overall costs when allocating resources across available commercial areas in a big ***-cooperative behavior of companies leads to the problem of Nash equilibrium search in the game of competing *** this paper,we study the corresponding resource allocation game under affine cost functions and obtain Nash equilibrium strategies in explicit *** findings allow us to develop a simple procedure for computing Nash equilibria in the game of companies allocating their resources among urban congestion *** computational study demonstrates the dependence of the average price for resource allocation on the number of players and their resource *** outcome of the paper contributes to flow theory and seems to be fresh and useful for managers.

Disc degeneration primarily contributes to chronic low back and neck ***,there is an urgent need to understand the spectrum of disc degeneration phenotypes such as fibrosis,ectopic calcification,herniation,or mixed *** these phenotypes,disc calcification is the least *** calcification,by definition,is the pathological mineralization of soft tissues,widely studied in the context of conditions that afflict vasculature,skin,and ***,disc calcification is associated with poor surgical outcomes and back pain refractory to conservative *** is frequently seen as a consequence of disc aging and progressive degeneration but exhibits unique molecular and morphological characteristics:hypertrophic chondrocyte-like cell differentiation;TNAP,ENPP1,and ANK upregulation;cell death;altered Pi and PPi homeostasis;and local *** studies in mouse models have provided a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying this *** is essential to recognize that the presentation and nature of mineralization differ between AF,NP,and EP ***,the combination of anatomic location,genetics,and environmental stressors,such as aging or trauma,govern the predisposition to ***,the systemic regulation of calcium and Pi metabolism is less important than the local activity of PPi modulated by the ANK-ENPP1 axis,along with disc cell death and differentiation *** there is limited understanding of this phenotype,understanding the molecular pathways governing local intervertebral disc calcification may lead to developing disease-modifying drugs and better clinical management of degeneration-related pathologies.
