Electrochemical View of the Band Gap of Liquid Water for Any Solution

Studying liquid water in a frame of band theory shows that varying a reduction-oxidation (RedOx) potential of aqueous solution can be identified as shifting Fermi level in its band gap. This medium becomes the reductive one when Fermi level is shifting to the conduction band due to populating hydroxonium level (h3O+/ h3O) by electrons and transforming water in a hypo-stoichiometric state, h2O1-│X│. Opposite in the hyper-stoichiometric one h2O1+│X│ Fermi level is shifting to the valence band due to populating hydroxide level Oh/Oh- by holes and the aqueous solution becomes the oxidative one. The energy difference between these electronic levels is estimated of 1.75 eV. It is shown that the standard half-reactions and the typical aqueous electrodes fix their RedOx potential only by the electrons and holes populations ([h3O],[Oh]) of these local electronic levels in the band gap of non-stoichiometric water in the corresponding solutions.

Organizational computing devices are increasingly becoming targets of cyber-attacks, and organizations have become dependent on the safety and security of their computer networks and their organizational computing devices. Business and government often use defense in-depth information assurance measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and password procedures across their enterprises to plan strategically and manage IT security risks. This quantitative study explores whether the analytical hierarchy process (AhP) model can be effectively applied to the prioritization of information assurance defense in-depth measures. In response to these threats, the President, legislators, experts, and others have characterized cyber security as a pressing national security issue. The methods used in this study consisted of emailing study participants a survey requesting that they prioritize five defense in-depth information assurance measures, anti-virus, intrusion detection, password, smart-cards, and encryption, with a range of responses from 1 - 5 using a Likert scale to consider standard cost, effectiveness, and perceived ease of use in terms of protection of organizational computing devices. The measures were then weighted, based on ranking. A pair-wise comparison of each of the five measures is then made using AhP to determine whether the Likert scale and the AhP model could be effectively applied to the prioritization of information assurance measures to protect organizational computing devices. The findings of the research reject the h0 null hypothesis that AhP does not affect the relationship between the information technology analysts’ prioritization of five defense in-depth dependent variables and the independent variables of cost, ease of use, and effectiveness in protecting organizational devices against cyber-attacks.

Society is becoming increasingly dependent on cyberspace for both business and pleasure. Cyber attackers continue to attack organizational computer networks, as those same computer networks become increasing critical to organizational business process. Strategic planning and managing IT security risks play an important role in the business and government planning process. Deploying defense in depth security measures can ensure that organizations continue to function in times of crisis. This quantitative study explores whether the Latin Square Design (LSD) model can be effectively applied to the prioritization of cybersecurity threats and to the linking of information assurance defense in-depth measures to those threats. The methods used in this study consisted of scanning 10 Cybersecurity Websites such as the Department of homeland Security US CERT (United States-Computer Emergency Readiness Team [1]) and the SANS Institute (SysAdmin, Audit, Network and Security [2]) using the Likert Scale Model for the Website’s top ten list of cyber threats facing organizations and the network defense in depth measures to fight those threats. A comparison of each cybersecurity threats was then made using LSD to determine whether the Likert scale and the LSD model could be effectively applied to prioritize information assurance measures to protect organizational computing devices. The findings of the research reject the h0 null hypothesis that LSD does not affect the relationship between the ranking of 10 Cybersecurity websites top ten cybersecurity threats dependent variables and the independent variables of defense in depth measures used in protecting organizational devices against cyber-attacks.

Thermal Stability and Thermal Aging of Poly(vinyl chloride)/MgAl Layered Double hydroxides Composites

MgAl-LDh（layered double hydroxides） were prepared with CO（Nh2）2, Nh4 Cl and Nh3·h2O by the coprecipitation method, respectively. Corresponding composite membranes were prepared by the coating method. LDhs were characterized by WAXS, CO2-TPD and SEM. The morphology of the PVC/LDhs composite membranes were characterized by means of SEM. The thermal stability of the membranes was analyzed by air aging box and TGA-FTIR. The SEM results show that nano-particles can be compatible with poly（vinyl chloride）（PVC） matrix homogeneously by the stirring-ultrasound blend method with two steps. Furthermore, the air aging box results proved that MgAl-CO（Nh2）2-LDh has the best effect on thermal stability of PVC. TGA-FTIR results show that MgAl-CO（Nh2）2-LDh could adsorb more hCl that resulted from the degradation of PVC and improve the pyrolysis temperature of the first degradation stage by 15 K compared with PVC.

The current model of economic growth generated unprecedented increases in human wealth and prosperity during the 19th and 2Oth centuries. The main mechanisms have been the rapid pace of technological and social innovation, human capital accumulation, and the conversion of resources and natural capital into more valuable forms of produced capital. however, there is evidence emerging that this model may be approaching environmental limits and planetary boundaries, and that the conversion of natural capital needs to slow down rapidly and then be reversed Some commentators have asserted that in order for this to occur, we will need to stop growing altogether and, instead, seek prosperity without growth. Others argue that environmental concerns are low-priority luxuries to be contemplated once global growth has properly returned to levels observed prior to the 2008 financial crisis. A third group argues that there is no trade-off and, instead,, promotes green growth： the （politically appealing） idea is that we can simultaneously grow and address our environmental problems. This paper provides a critical perspective on this debate and suggests that asubstantial researc＇h agenda is required to come to grips with these challenges. One place to start is with the relevant metrics： measures of per-capitawealth, and, eventually, quantitative measures of prosperity, alongside a dashboard of other sustainability indicators. A public andpoliticalfocus on wealth （a stock）, and its annual changes, could realistically complement the current focus on market-based gross output as measured by GDP （a flow）. This could have important policy implications, but deeper changes to governance and business models will be required.

Objective: To study the methods of increasing the reproductive qualities and indices of viability in the offspring of holstein cows under conditions of intensive milk production. Methods: Studies were conducted on 3 groups of holstein cows with 30 heads in each group. Animals of the experimental groups had a different length physiological period. The study focused on experimental groups of animals: the reproductive indicators, the viability of newborn calves, and their growth rate. All the digital materials of the experimental data were processed by the method of variation statistics for the significance of the difference of the compared parameters using the Student's criterion, adopted in biology and zootechnics. Results: Studies found that reduction of the duration of the service period, along with a simultaneous increase in the inter-lactation period to 80–90 days, increased the reproductive capacity of the cows, and enhances the viability of the offspring compared with their peers. Conclusions: The study revealed the optimal duration of the physiological periods in high-producing cows under conditions of intensive milk production technology.

MgCl_(2)–NaCl–KCl salts mixture shows great potential as a high-temperature(>700°C)thermal energy storage material in next-generation concentrated solar power *** Mg into molten MgCl_(2)–NaCl–KCl salt as a corrosion inhibitor is one of the most effective and cost-effective methods to mitigate the molten salt corrosion of commercial Fe–Cr–Ni ***,it is found in this work that both stainless steel 310 and Incoloy 800h samples were severely corroded after 500 h immersion test at 700°C when the alloy samples directly contacted with the over-added Mg in the liquid *** corrosion attack is different from the classical impurity-driven corrosion in molten chloride salts found in previous *** analysis indicates that Ni preferentially leaches out of alloy matrix due to the tendency to form MgNi_(2)/Mg_(2)Ni *** Ni-depletion leads to the formation of a porous corrosion layer on both alloys,with the thickness around 204μm(stainless steel 310)and 1300μm(Incoloy 800h),*** results suggest that direct contact of liquid Mg with Ni-containing alloys should be avoided during using Mg as a corrosion inhibitor for MgCl_(2)–NaCl–KCl or other chlorides for high temperature heat storage and transfer.

The enteric nervous system （ENS） controls the function of the gastrointestinal tract and has been impli- cated in various diseases, including Parkinson＇s disease （PD）. PD is a neurodegenerative disease with Lewy bodies （LBs） and Lewy neurites （LNs） as the main pathological features. In addition to the typical motor symptoms in PD, attention has been drawn to non-motor symptoms, such as constipation, implying dysfunction of the ENS. In the present study, we characterized the age-dependent mor- phological alterations and aggregation of α-synuclein （α- syn）, the primary protein component in LBs and LNs, in the ENS in an α-syn transgenic mouse model. We found that the expression and accumulation of α-syn increased gradually in neurons of Meissner＇s and Auerbach＇s plexuses of the gastrointestinal tract with age （from 1 week to 2 years）. In addition, α-syn was increasingly phosphorylated at the serine 129 residue, reflecting patho- logical alterations of the protein over time. Furthermore,α- syn was present in different subtypes of neurons expressing vasoactive intestinal polypeptide, neuronal nitric oxide synthase, or calretinin. The results indicated that BAC-α- Syn-GFP transgenic mice provide a unique model in which to study the relationship between ENS and PD pathogenesis.
