Responsible research and innovation training programmes:implementation and evaluation of the HEIRRI project

Responsible research and innovation,or RRI,is a concept that aims to bring together society and science for a better future.There are six key elements of RRI:public engagement,gender equality,science education,open access,ethics and governance.Higher Education Institutions and Responsible Research and Innovation(HEIRRI)project aimed to bring the concept of RRI into the educational system.Using state-of-the-art review of good practices,HEIRRI team developed 10 training programmes on RRI for different higher education institution educational levels,including a summer school and a massive open online course(MOOC).We conducted pilot of the trainings and evaluated participants’experiences.Satisfaction with HEIRRI training programmes on responsible research and innovation was high,both for participants and for the trainers,and trainings raised awareness of RRI.Participants’feedback was used to identify areas that need improvement and provided for recommendations for final versions of the HEIRRI training programmes.In order to equip researchers with skills to recognize and apply RRI values,RRI should be included in their education.HEIRRI training is suitable for a range of different disciplines,including forensic science,and is free to use and adjust for specific contexts(available from:https://rri-tools.eu/heirri-training-programmes).

Biophotonics and laser medicine are very dynamic and continuously increasing fields ecologically as well as economically. Direct communication with medical doctors is necessary to identify specific requests and unmet needs. Information on innovative, new or renewed techniques is necessary to design medical devices for introduction into clinical application and finally to become established after positive clinical trials as well as medical approval. The long-term endurance in developing light based innovative clinical concepts and devices are described based on the Munich experience. Fluorescence technologies for laboratory medicine to improve non- invasive diagnosis or for online monitoring are described according with new approaches in improving photody- namic therapeutic aspects related to immunology. Regard- ing clinically related thermal laser applications, the introduction of new laser wavelengths and laser parameters showed potential in the treatment of varicose veins as well as in lithotripsy. Such directly linked research and development are possible when researchers and medical doctors perform their daily work in immediate vicinity, thus have the possibility to share their ideas in meetings by day.

Deformation,structure and potential hazard of a landslide based on InSAR in Banbar county,Xizang(Tibet)

The Tibetan Plateau is characterized by complex geological conditions and a relatively fragile ecological environment.In recent years,there has been continuous development and increased human activity in the Tibetan Plateau region,leading to a rising risk of landslides.The landslide in Banbar County,Xizang(Tibet),have been perturbed by ongoing disturbances from human engineering activities,making it susceptible to instability and displaying distinct features.In this study,small baseline subset synthetic aperture radar interferometry(SBAS-InSAR)technology is used to obtain the Line of Sight(LOS)deformation velocity field in the study area,and then the slope-orientation deformation field of the landslide is obtained according to the spatial geometric relationship between the satellite’s LOS direction and the landslide.Subsequently,the landslide thickness is inverted by applying the mass conservation criterion.The results show that the movement area of the landslide is about 6.57×10^(4)m^(2),and the landslide volume is about 1.45×10^(6)m^(3).The maximum estimated thickness and average thickness of the landslide are 39 m and 22 m,respectively.The thickness estimation results align with the findings from on-site investigation,indicating the applicability of this method to large-scale earth slides.The deformation rate of the landslide exhibits a notable correlation with temperature variations,with rainfall playing a supportive role in the deformation process and displaying a certain lag.Human activities exert the most substantial influence on the spatial heterogeneity of landslide deformation,leading to the direct impact of several prominent deformation areas due to human interventions.Simultaneously,utilizing the long short-term memory(LSTM)model to predict landslide displacement,and the forecast results demonstrate the effectiveness of the LSTM model in predicting landslides that are in a continuous development and movement phase.The landslide is still active,and based on the spatial heterogeneity of landslide deform

[Y(dbm)_(3)(H_(2)O)]:Synthesis,thermal behavior and spin-coating precursor for Y_(2)O_(3)layer formation

The synthesis,structure and thermal behavior of [Y（dbm）3（H2 O）]（3）（dbm = 1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propandionate） and its use as a spin-coating precursor for Y2 O3 deposition is reported. Complex 3 was prepared by the reaction of [Y（NO3）3·6 H2 O]（1） with 3 equiv of Hdbm（2） in presence of NaOH. The molecular structure of 3 in the solid-state was determined by single X-ray crystal diffraction. Both C1 symmetric crystallographically independent species of 3 possess a YO7 coordination setup with minor deviation from an ideal capped octahedron coordination geometry（∧ enantiomer）. Complex 3 forms a1 D chain, due to intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the coordinated H2 O molecule and the 0 atom of the dbm ligand, respectively. The thermal decomposition behavior of 3 was investigated by thermogravimetric studies in the temperature range of 40-800 ℃ and 40-1300 ℃ under an oxygen and argon atmosphere, respectively. Powder X-ray diffraction（PXRD） measurements of the residues confirmed the formation of Y2 O3. Complex 3 was applied as a spin-coating precursor for yttrium oxide film formation on either Si wafers with a continuous 100 nm thick SiO2 film, or with a native oxide layer.The as-deposited Y2 O3 layers are smooth, conformal, dense and transparent and are of a thickness of 27 and 30 nm, respectively.

Defect reconstruction of the trochanter major after necrotizing fasciitis and multiple operations using an arteriovenous Ioop and Iatissimus dorsi free flap

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a severe soft tissue infection which has to be treated with a radical debridement as the key element. In the further course often large tissue defects occur, so that a long-term stable defect reconstruction plays a crucial role after any successful debridement. The reconstruction can include split skin grafting or local and free flaps. Here we present a case of a 41-year-old male patient with a NF in the trochanter major region after spondylodesis and spinal cord stimulation (SCS) device implantation. After multiple operations including local and free flaps we performed a defect reconstruction using an arteriovenous (AV) loop and subsequent free latissimus dorsi transplantation leading to no further operations. This complex reconstruction can be considered as the final stage of any reconstruction latter.

The mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)acts in two structurally and functionally distinct protein complexes,mTOR complex 1(mTORC1)and mTOR complex 2(mTORC2).Upon deregulation,activated mTOR signaling is associated with multiple processes involved in tumor growth and metastasis.Compared with mTORC1,much less is known about mTORC2 in cancer,mainly because of the unavailability of a selective inhibitor.However,existing data suggest that mTORC2 with its two distinct subunits Rictor and mSin1 might play a more important role than assumed so far.It is one of the key effectors of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and stimulates cell growth,cell survival,metabolism,and cytoskeletal organization.It is not only implicated in tumor progression,metastasis,and the tumor microenvironment but also in resistance to therapy.Rictor,the central subunit of mTORC2,was found to be upregulated in different kinds of cancers and is associated with advanced tumor stages and a bad prognosis.Moreover,AKT,the main downstream regulator of mTORC2/Rictor,is one of the most highly activated proteins in cancer.Primary and secondary liver cancer are major problems for current cancer therapy due to the lack of specific medical treatment,emphasizing the need for further therapeutic options.This review,therefore,summarizes the role of mTORC2/Rictor in cancer,with special focus on primary liver cancer but also on liver metastases.

Objective: Prostate secretory protein of 94 amino acids(PSP94) is a target gene of the EZH2 transcriptional repressor and is often downregulated in prostate cancer;however, its prognostic value is disputed.Methods: Immunohistochemical analysis of a tissue microarray of 12, 432 prostate cancer specimens was performed to evaluate PSP94 expression. Correlation of PSP94 expression with tumor phenotype, patient prognosis, TMPRSS2:ERG fusion status, EZH2 expression and PTEN deletion was studied.Results: PSP94 expression was increased in benign prostatic hyperplasia;however, it was downregulated in 48% and negative in42% of the 9, 881 interpretable prostate cancer specimens. The loss of PSP94 expression was inversely correlated to EZH2 expression(P < 0.0001) and largely unrelated to the ERG status, but strongly correlated with high Gleason grade, advanced tumor stage, and nodal metastasis(P <0.0001 each). The fraction of PSP94-negative cancer specimens increased from 40% in pT2 to 52%in pT3 b-pT4(P < 0.0001) and from 40% in Gleason 3+3 = 6 to 46% in Gleason 4+3 = 7 and 60% in Gleason ≥4+4 = 8(P <0.0001). Loss of PSP94 was linked to early prostate-specific antigen recurrence, but with little absolute effect(P < 0.0001).However, it provided additional prognostic impact in cancer specimens with PTEN deletion. Loss of PSP94 deteriorated prognosis of cancer patients with PTEN deletion by more than 10%(P < 0.0001). The combination of PTEN deletion and PSP94 loss provided independent prognostic information that was observed in several subgroups defined by classical and quantitative Gleason grade.Conclusions: The results of our study suggest that combined PSP94/PTEN analysis can be potentially used in the clinical prognosis of prostate cancer.

In vertebrates,bone is considered an osteoimmune system which encompasses functions of a locomotive organ,a mineral reservoir,a hormonal organ,a stem cell pool and a cradle for immune cells.This osteoimmune system is based on cooperatively acting bone and immune cells,cohabitating within the bone marrow.They are highly interdependent,a fact that is confounded by shared progenitors,mediators,and signaling pathways.Successful fracture healing requires the participation of all the precursors,immune and bone cells found in the osteoimmune system.Recent evidence demonstrated that changes of the immune cell composition and function may negatively influence bone healing.In this review,first the interplay between different immune cell types and osteoprogenitor cells will be elaborated more closely.The separate paragraphs focus on the specific cell types,starting with the cells of the innate immune response followed by cells of the adaptive immune response,and the complement system as mediator between them.Finally,a brief overview on the challenges of preclinical testing of immunebased therapeutic strategies to support fracture healing will be given.

目的提高对成人型亚历山大病的认识。方法报告1例成人型亚历山大病病例,回顾性分析患者的临床资料、实验室检查、影像学检查及基因检查结果,并结合复习相关文献进行讨论。结果患者为24岁青年男性,临床表现为反复头痛、夜间睡眠差、行走不稳、动作协调性差、尿失禁。无癫发作,记忆力无明显下降。头颅MRI示双侧侧脑室、第三脑室、中脑导水管、第四脑室周围、双侧岛叶皮质下及延髓的多发T2高信号征象,提示白质脱髓鞘病变并有胼胝体发育不全、小脑萎缩。基因检查示患者携带GFAP基因一个致病性的杂合变异,该突变导致编码蛋白GFAP(17q21/NM-002055. 4)第8外显子呈现c. 1246C> T错义突变。其父母基因检测未见基因突变,表明该突变为新生突变及致病性突变。结论亚历山大病是一种少见的白质脑病;其基因突变为新发变异,该突变导致编码蛋白GFAP杂合变异,基因缺陷是造成成人型亚历山大病的病因,基因检测及MRI影像学检查可明确诊断。
