＜正＞OBJECTIVE Vibration response imaging（VRI） is a new bedside technology to monitor ventilation by detecting lung sound *** is currently unknown whether VRI is able to accurately monitor the local distribution of ventilation within the *** therefore compared VRI to electrical impedance tomography（EIT）,an established technique used for the assessment of regional ventilation. METhODS For peer review,simultaneous EIT and VRI measurements were performed in the healthy and injured lungs（ALI;induced by saline lavage） at different PEEP levels（0,5,10,15 mbar） in nine *** energy amplitude（VEA） by VRI,and amplitudes of relative impedance changes（rel. AZ） by EIT,were evaluated in seven regions of interest（ROIs）.To assess the distribution of VT by VRI and EIT,absolute values were normalized to the VT obtained by simultaneous spirometry measurements. RESULTS Redistribution of ventilation by ALI and PEEP was detected by VRI and *** linear correlation between pooled VT by VEA and *** was R =***-Altman analysis showed a bias of -1.07±24.71 ml and limits of agreement of -49.05 to +47.36 *** the different ROIs, correlations of VT - distribution by EIT and VRI ranged between R values ofO.29 and *** and PEEP did not alter the agreement of VT between VRI and *** Measurements of regional ventilation distribution by VRI are similar to those obtained by EIT.

There is a long and rich tradition in the social sciences of using models of collective behavior in animals as jump- ing-off points for the study of human behavior, including collective human behavior. here, we come at the problem in a slightly different fashion. We ask whether models of collective human behavior have anything to offer those who study animal behavior. Our brief example of tipping points, a model first developed in the physical sciences and later used in the social sciences, suggests that the analysis of human collective behavior does indeed have considerable to offer

Balancing timeliness of reporting with increasing testing probability for epidemic data

Reporting of epidemiological data requires coordinated action by numerous agencies,across a multitude of logistical *** collated and reported information to inform direct interventions can be challenging due to associated *** can,however,occur indirectly through the public generation of concern,which facilitates adherence to protective *** utilized a coupled-dynamic multiplex network model with a communication-and disease-layer to examine how variation in reporting delay and testing probability are likely to impact adherence to protective behaviors,such as reducing physical *** concern mediated adherence and was informed by new-or active-case reporting,at the population-or *** received information from the communication layer:direct connections that were sick or adherent to protective behaviors increased their concern,but absence of illness eroded *** revealed that the relative benefit of timely reporting and a high probability of testing was contingent on how much information was already *** low rates of testing,increasing testing probability was of greater mitigating *** high rates of testing,maximizing timeliness was of greater ***-level reporting provided advanced warning of disease risk from nearby communities;but we explore the relative costs and benefits of delays due to scale against the assumption that people may prioritize community-level *** findings emphasize the interaction of testing accuracy and reporting timeliness for the indirect mitigation of disease in a complex social system.
