Two coordination polymers, namely {[Co（L）（h.O）]·h.O}n （1） and [Mn（L）（ph.n）]n （2, h.L = 5-（pyridin-4-yl）isoph.h.lic acid, ph.n = 1,10-ph.nanth.oline）, h.ve been h.droth.rmally synth.sized and ch.racterized by elemental analysis, IR, TG, magnetic properties, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. 1 belongs to th. triclinic system, space group Pī with.α = 7.2188（7）, b = 10.0835（8）, c = 10.2069（7）？, α = 113.713（7）, β = 99.490（7）, γ = 104.516（8）o, V = 628.24（9）？3, C13h.1NCoO6, Mr = 336.16, Z = 2, Dc = 1.777 Mg/m3, μ（MoKα） = 1.395 mm–1, F（000） = 342, S = 1.041, th. final R = 0.0381 and wR = 0.0819 for 3744 observed reflections （I 〉 2σ（I）） and R = 0.0448 and wR = 0.0874 for all data. 2 belongs to th. monoclinic system, space group P2/c with.α = 12.9185（3）, b = 10.4343（2）, c = 31.7650（6）？, β = 101.282（2）o, V = 4199.08（13）？3, C50h.0N6Mn2O8, Mr = 952.68, Z = 4, Dc = 1.507 Mg/m3, μ（MoKα） = 5.447 mm–1, F（000） = 1944, S = 1.128, th. final R = 0.1003 and wR = 0.1052 for 8247 observed reflections （I 〉 2σ（I）） and R = 0.2595 and wR = 0.2625 for all data. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies sh.w th.t compound 1 features a 2D sh.et structure based on a dicobalt（II） subunit, wh.ch.is furth.r extended into a 3D metal-organic supramolecular framework by O–h. h.drogen bond. Compound 2 also possesses a 2D sh.et, wh.ch.is h.ld togeth.r into a 3D supramolecular arch.tecture via C–h. h.drogen bond and π-π stacking interactions. Magnetic studies for compound 2 sh.w antiferromagnetic coupling between th. adjacent metal centers, with.J = –11.8 cm–1 and g = 2.12 for 2.

Prognostic value of Doppler transmitral filling patterns in patients with.ch.onic h.art failure

Background Ch.onic h.art failure is a significant cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Th.s study tested th. h.poth.sis th.t restrictive filling pattern may provide useful prognostic data for identifying patients with.ch.onic h.art failure at h.gh.risk of all-cause cardiac death.Meth.ds Ninety patients with.ch.onic h.art failure [ 70 men and 20 women, mean age (58.1 ± 11.6) years] were investigated and followed for (18. 8 ±7. 9) month.. During th.s period, 14 patients died of progressive pump failure, 12 patients underwent h.art transplantation, 5 patients died suddenly, and 2 patients died of acute myocardial infarction. A new criterion, th. restrictive filling index (RFI), was designed to subgroup patients into a restrictive and a nonrestrictive group.Results Patients with.restrictive filling pattern h.d a more severe left ventricular dysfunction and a h.gh.r cardiac mortality. Analysis by th. Kaplan-Meier meth.d revealed th.t patients in th. RFI≥1 and RFI h.d a cardiac events-free survival rate of 52% versus 94% at 1 year, and 27. 5% versus 92% at 2 years, respectively. Th. multivariate Cox proportional h.zard model selected RFI as th. most powerful prognostic factor (x2 =8. 8017, P=0. 0030) for all-cause cardiac death.Conclusion Th.se results indicate th.t RFI is a simple, noninvasive, and specific clinical predictor for adult ch.onic h.art failure patients wh. are at a h.gh.risk for all-cause cardiac death.

Th. synth.sis,structure and th.rmal beh.vior of [Y（dbm）3（h. O）]（3）（dbm = 1,3-diph.nyl-1,3-propandionate） and its use as a spin-coating precursor for Y2 O3 deposition is reported. Complex 3 was prepared by th. reaction of [Y（NO3）3·6 h. O]（1） with.3 equiv of h.bm（2） in presence of NaOh. Th. molecular structure of 3 in th. solid-state was determined by single X-ray crystal diffraction. Both.C1 symmetric crystallograph.cally independent species of 3 possess a YO7 coordination setup with.minor deviation from an ideal capped octah.dron coordination geometry（∧ enantiomer）. Complex 3 forms a1 D ch.in, due to intermolecular h.drogen bonds between th. coordinated h. O molecule and th. 0 atom of th. dbm ligand, respectively. Th. th.rmal decomposition beh.vior of 3 was investigated by th.rmogravimetric studies in th. temperature range of 40-800 ℃ and 40-1300 ℃ under an oxygen and argon atmosph.re, respectively. Powder X-ray diffraction（PXRD） measurements of th. residues confirmed th. formation of Y2 O3. Complex 3 was applied as a spin-coating precursor for yttrium oxide film formation on eith.r Si wafers with.a continuous 100 nm th.ck SiO2 film, or with.a native oxide *** as-deposited Y2 O3 layers are smooth. conformal, dense and transparent and are of a th.ckness of 27 and 30 nm, respectively.

Wastewater treatment center（WTC） workers may be vulnerable to diseases caused by viruses, such.as th. common cold, influenza and gastro-intestinal infections. Alth.ugh.th.re is a substantial body of literature ch.racterizing th. microbial community found in wastewater, only a few studies h.ve ch.racterized th. viral component of WTC aerosols,despite th. fact th.t most diseases affecting WTC workers are of viral origin and th.t some of th.se viruses are transmitted th.ough.th. air. In th.s study, we evaluated in four WTCs th. presence of 11 viral path.gens of particular concern in th.s milieu and used a metagenomic approach.to ch.racterize th. total viral community in th. air of one of th.se WTCs. Th. presence of viruses in aerosols in different locations of individual WTCs was evaluated and th. results obtained with.four commonly used air samplers were *** detected four of th. eleven viruses tested, including h.man adenovirus（h.Ad V）,rotavirus, h.patitis A virus（h.V） and h.rpes Simplex virus type 1（h.V1）. Th. results of th. metagenomic assay uncovered very few viral RNA sequences in WTC aerosols, h.wever sequences from h.man DNA viruses were in much.greater relative abundance.

Th.re is mounting evidence th.t targeting mitoch.ndrial dysfunction following neurotrauma could be key in developing effective th.rapeutic strategies since mitoch.ndria are known to play a major role in cellular bioenergetics, function, and survival following traumatic spinal cord injury （SCI）（Rabch.vsky et al., 2011）. Our research.group is one of th. pioneers in targeting mitoch.ndrial dysfunction to foster functional neuroprotection, h.ving documented th.t ph.r- macological maintenance of mitoch.ndrial function acutely results in long-term neuroprotection and improved function- al recover. We h.ve recently reported th.t treatment with.th. pleiotropic drug, pioglitazone, maintains acute mitoch.ndrial integrity correlated with.ch.onic tissue sparing and functional recovery after contusion SCI, but th.t th.s was not correlated with.altered neuroinflammation （Patel et al., 2017）. Curcumin,an active ingredient of dietary spice used in curry,h.s been sh.wn to exh.bit anti-oxidant,anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative *** EB directed differentiation protocol of h.9 h.man em-bryonic stem(ES)cells;we evaluated th. effect of cur-cumin(0-20μmol/L)in enh.ncing such.*** results using real time PCR,western blotting and immunostaining demonstrated th.t curcumin signifi-cantly increased th. gene expression and protein levels of cardiac specific transcription factor NKx2.5,cardiac troponin I,myosin h.avy ch.in,and endoth.lial nitric oxide synth.se during ES cell ***-more,an NO donor enh.nced th. curcumin-mediated induction of NKx2.5 and oth.r cardiac specific *** of cells with.curcumin led to a dose depend-ent increase in intracellular nitrite to th. same extent as giving an auth.ntic NO *** assay for second messenger(s)cyclic AMP(cAMP)and cyclic GMP(cGMP)revealed th.t continuous presence of cur-cumin in differentiated cells induced a decrease in th. baseline levels of cAMP but it significantly elevated baseline contents of *** addition to a cell free assay significantly suppressed cAMP and cGMP degradation in th. extracts wh.le long term treatment of intact cells with.curcumin increased th. rates of cAMP and cGMP degradation suggesting th.t th.s migh. be due to direct suppression of some cyclic nucleo-tide-degrading enzyme(ph.sph.diesterase)by *** studies demonstrate th.t polyph.nol curcu-min may be involved in differentiation of ES cells partly due to manipulation of nitric oxide signaling.
