The Effects of 5 Weeks of Leg-Drive Training on Bench Press Performance in Recreationally-Trained,College-Age Men

Introduction The bench press is commonly used to measure upper-body *** much emphasis has been placed on the upper-body,little is known about how the lower-body can play a role in bench press ***-drive is a technique that includes flexing the knee so the feet line up posterior to the knee joint,while simultaneously contracting the knee extensors isometrically during the *** purpose of this study was to compare strength characteristics of lifters in a standard bench press versus a leg-drive bench press over the course of 5-weeks of *** Twenty-three recreationally active males(age:22.4±2.1 years,height:175.0±5.9 cm,mass:78.4±9.5 kg)were randomized into a standard bench or leg-drive bench press *** performed four sets to failure,two times per week for five *** of interests were training volume and 1-repetition maximum(1RM)*** training volume,a 2×5(group×week)repeated measures analysis of variance(RMANOVA)was *** the 1RM’s,a 2×2×2(group×press type×time)RMANOVA was used.A priori alpha levels were set to *** Over time,both groups showed an approximate 6%increase in 1RM *** volume for week 4 was 5.6%less than week 5,but was not different from weeks 1 through *** between-group differences were observed for 1RM strength or training *** This results of this work indicates that 5 weeks of leg-drive training is effective in increasing 1RM strength,but was not more effective than standard bench press ***,lifters should choose either lifting style based on personal preference.

Analysis of cellulolytic and hemicellulolytic enzyme activity within the Tipula abdominalis （Diptera： Tipulidae） larval gut and characterization of Crocebacterium ilecola gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from the Tipula abdominalis larval hindgut

In forested stream ecosystems of the north and eastern United States, larvae of the aquatic crane fly Tipula abdominalis are important shredders of leaf litter detritus. T. abdominalis larvae harbor a dense and diverse microbial community in their hindgut that may aide in the degradation oflignocellulose. In this study, the activities ofcellulolytic and hemicellulolytic enzymes were demonstrated from hindgut extracts and from bacterial isolates using model sugar substrates. One of the bacterial isolates was further characterized as a member of the family Microbacteriaceae. Taxonomic position of the isolate within this family was determined by a polyphasic approach, as is commonly employed for the separation of genera within the family Microbacteriaceae. The bacterial isolate is Gramtype positive, motile, non-sporulating, and rod-shaped. The G ＋ C content of the DNA is 64.9 mol%. The cell wall contains B2y type peptidoglycan, D- and L-diaminobutyric acid as the diamino acid, and rhamnose as the predominant sugar. The predominant fatty acids are 12-methyltetradecanoic acid （ai-C15：0） and 14-methylhexadecanoic acid （ai-C17：0）. The isolate forms a distinct lineage within the family Microbacteriaceae, as determined by 16S rRNA sequence analysis. We propose the name Crocebacterium ilecola gen. nov., sp. nov., to accommodate this bacterial isolate. The type species is T202T （ATCC BAA-1359; GenBank Accession DQ826511）.

An efficient method for unfolding kinetic pressure driven VISAR data

Velocity Interferometer System for Any Reflector(VISAR) [Barker and Hollenbach, J. Appl. Phys. 43, 4669(1972)]is a well-known diagnostic that is employed on many shock physics and pulsed-power experiments. With the VISAR diagnostic, the velocity on the surface of any metal flyer can be found. For most experiments employing VISAR, either a kinetic pressure [Grady, Mech. Mater. 29, 181(1998)] or a magnetic pressure [Lemke et al., Intl J. Impact Eng. 38,480(2011)] drives the motion of the flyer. Moreover, reliable prediction of the time-dependent pressure is often a critical component to understanding the physics of these experiments. Although VISAR can provide a precise measurement of a flyer's surface velocity, the real challenge of this diagnostic implementation is using this velocity to unfold the timedependent pressure. The purpose of this paper is to elucidate a new method for quickly and reliably unfolding VISAR data.

Effect of Temperature on Extraction of Castor Oil from Castor Seeds Using Potential Green Solvents

Extraction of castor oil from castor seeds was investigated using different green solvents which include d-limonene, p-cymene, α-pinene, ethanol, and furfural at the temperature range of (323 - 413) K. The Soxhlet extraction method was employed to investigate the effect of temperature at atmospheric pressure. The focus of the study was to investigate a potential green solvent that can produce the high yields compared to the traditional solvent (hexane). The results show that at the average time of 3 hours and 30 minutes, the castor oil yield for green solvents were ranked as furfural (47.13%) > ethanol (45.37%) > p-cymene (39.15%) > d-limonene (39.13%) > α-pinene (38.11%). These castor oil yields were obtained at optimum temperatures for each green solvent. The castor oil yields were compared to the yield of hexane (31.36%) at same average time. The green solvents were recovered by using simple distillation, except furfural which was difficult to be recovered.

Herbicide resistance: Development of wheat production systems and current status of resistant weeds in wheat cropping systems

Herbicide resistance in crops has extended the scope of herbicide applications to control weeds. The introduction of herbicide resistant crops resulted in a major shift in the way that herbicides are used in many crops, but not necessarily increased the prevalence of herbicide use, especially in wheat. Wheat is one of the most widely grown crops in the world and currently only two major herbicide-resistant wheat groups have been commercialized to manage weeds in a cost-effective manner. However, sustainable wheat production is threatened by the expanding occurrence of herbicide-resistant weed populations with limited efforts to discover new herbicide molecules. Selective control of certain problematic weeds in wheat was impossible until development and introduction of the technologies, Clearfield and Co AXium Production Systems. However, the current limitations of reliance on specific herbicides and evolution of resistant weeds mandate precautions and considerations when using these systems to prevent the loss of existing herbicide resources and continue sustainable wheat production. The focus of this review is to provide an overview of natural pre-existing herbicide resistance and development of herbicide-resistant technologies in wheat. The mechanisms of resistance to herbicides in wheat as well as the weed populations in wheat cropping systems, and implications for weed management are discussed.

Land Parcel Land Use History as a Key to Site Selectionfor Documenting Soil Contamination Risk: a Case Study from Australian Suburbia

In that orcharding in early to mid twentieth century southeastern Australia involved use of certain heavy metal and As compounds in regular pest control spray procedures, some interest attaches to the possibility that these landparcels are underlain by soils with above background Cu, Pb and As levels. Interpretation of Land cover changes allowed land parcels previously occupied by orchards to be identified in the 1950s through time series air photos. A comparison of soil analysis results referring to soil samples from control sites, and from land parcels formerly occupied by orchardists, shows that contamination (above background) levels of cations in the pesticides can be found in the top 6 cm of former orchard soils. It is clear that digital spatial data handling and culturally informed air photo interpretation has a place in soil contamination studies, land use planning (with particular reference to re development) and in administration of public health.

A better understanding of the bonding and aggregation processes occurring between carbon nanomaterials and metal oxide particles in aqueous solutions is important in the development of novel nanosolids for applications in the areas of sensor development,highly conductive paint,nanotube alignment,polymer composites,Li-ion batteries,and many other *** current investigation reviews these processes and presents a detailed description of the aggregation processes occurring between carbon nanomaterials and metal oxide particles(metals)in various aqueous *** results indicate that the charge attraction between the particles results in a strong homogeneous bonding that occurs within the aqueous solution and for the first time demonstrate and describe the aggregation process of these *** relative importance of many parameters that impact the aggregation process is identified and discussed,and guidelines for controlling the aggregation process are *** is a simple and cost-effective process to manufacture a novel nano-solid based on carbon nanomaterial and metal *** addition,the process is easy to scale up and *** methodology could lead to many significant applications as well as commercialization.

Interrelations Between Socio-economic Development and Environmental Quality:a Simulation Integrating System Dynamics Models with GIS

System dynamics (SD) theory has long been deployed in modeling complex non-linear interrelationships but, so far it has not been common to do the kind of modeling in support of bringing environmental sustainability policies to practice. This is largely because the challenge of including spatial data has not yet been well met. Potential for adoption of SD and GIS methods in combination is exemplified with the results of a decision-support exercise designed for simulation and prediction of the dynamic inter-relationships between socio-economic development and environmental quality for the "Wen, Pi, Du" county in Sichuan province, southwestern China.

Flow velocity and temperature sensing using thermosensitive fluorescent polymer seed particles in water

Particle image velocimetry(PIV)is an experimental technique that uses microscale particles as tracers to measure the velocity of a fluid *** this paper,we seek to extend this technique to simultaneously measure fluid temperature as well,by employing a novel class of thermosensitive polymer *** this aim,we designed a process to encapsulate highly fluorescent thermosensitive NBD-AE-co-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)polymers into optically transparent poly(dimethylsiloxane)*** novel PIV particles enable direct measurement of water velocity while serving as temperature probes that increase their fluorescence intensity when the temperature rises above 32°*** demonstrate the ability of the particles to simultaneously serve as flow tracers and temperature sensors in water,we examine the flow velocity and temperature in the wake of a heated cylinder in a cross *** results indicate the possibility of extending PIV to afford the spatial and temporal resolution of fluid velocity and temperature gradients in water,with potential application to the study of convection problems from life sciences to engineering.
