Clean,but not green:Emission assessment,forecast modelling and policy solutions for plastic microbeads from personal care products in India

Intentionally added plastic microbeads in personal care products(PCP)are an underestimated source of *** microbeads are added as fillers,to increase product volume or aesthetics and allegedly have the purpose of cleansing and *** assess and forecast microbead emissions in India,this study analysed 45 items from four different categories of personal care products:face wash,face scrub,shower gel and body scrub available in the Indian market and determined microbead abundance,size,colour,shape and polymer ***,an emission estimation and time-seriesbased forecast for 2030 was done using ARIMA(0,2,0)for individual categories and *** results indicate that 45.00%of the products contained irregular or smooth microplastics,with Polyethylene being the dominant polymer,followed by Polypropylene,Polystyrene,Polyurethane and Polycaprolactone.A significant number of products(23.33%)contained cellulose microbeads,with ambiguity regarding their *** identified microbeads were mainly irregular in shape and granular in texture,especially ***/transparent colour dominated the identified microbeads,followed by blue,pink,yellow,red and *** 1.34%of the total product contained plastic microbeads,with 5.04%and 0.04%being the highest and lowest percentages *** average size of microbeads was found to be 640.74 mm,452.45 mm,556.66 mm and 606.30 mm in different *** overall annual emission estimation was 3.51×10^(19)(highest),2.14×10^(18)(lowest)and 1.37×10^(19)(average)in 2021 and forecasted to be 4.12×10^(19)(highest),2.52×10^(18)(lowest)and 1.611019(average)in *** exorbitantly high value is due to India's significant population,globalisation,inefficient wastewater efficiency,growing economy and disposable income.A lack of policies and adequate regulations further add to *** study emphasises and recommends the development of stringent policies and other well-tailored mitig

Climate change studies are diverse with no single study giving a comprehensive review of climate change impacts,adaptation strategies,and policy development in West *** unavailability of an all-inclusive study to serve as a guide for practitioners affects the effectiveness of climate change adaptation strategies proposed and adopted in the West African *** purpose of this study was to review the impacts of climate change risks on the crop,fishery,and livestock sectors,as well as the climate change adaptation strategies and climate-related policies aimed at helping to build resilient agricultural production systems in West *** review process followed a series of rigorous stages until the final selection of 56 articles published from 2009 to ***,the results highlighted the adverse effects of climate change risks on food *** found a continuous decline in food crop ***,the livestock sector experienced morbidity and mortality,as well as reduction in meat and milk *** fishery sector recorded loss of fingerlings,reduction in fish stocks,and destruction of mariculture and *** West Africa,climate-smart agriculture technologies,physical protection of fishing,and inclusion of gender perspectives in programs appear to be the major adaptation *** study therefore recommends the inclusion of ecosystem and biodiversity restoration,weather insurance,replacement of unsafe vessels,and strengthening gender equality in all climate change mitigation programs,as these will help to secure enough food for present and future generations.

Semiconductor-based photocatalysis by utilizing solar energy for sustainable organic pollutant elimination has been a promising tactic to alleviate environmental ***,the development of robust and efficient photocatalysts to degrade organic pollutants still faces major challenges because of insufficient charge *** we design and fabricate a heterojunction consisting of copper,carbon-modified TiO_(2),and sulfur-doped g-C_(3)N_(4)nanosheets(i.e.,S-C_(3)N_(4)/Cu/C-TiO_(2)).The heterostructure affords a remarkable synergistic photocatalysis for tetracycline hydrochloride degradation,achieving an 82.6%removal efficiency within 30 min under visible light irradiation,about 15.4 and 7.3 times higher than that of S-C_(3)N_(4)and C-TiO_(2),*** superior performance is attributed to the synergy between Cu doping and the Z-scheme heterojunction,which not only enhances the interfacial electric field effect,facilitating charge separation,but also boosts the redox *** charge carrier transfer between Cu/C-TiO_(2)and S-C_(3)N_(4)follows a Z-scheme,as verified by trapping experiments,electron spin-resonance spectroscopy,and density functional theory ***,the tetracycline hydrochloride degradation pathways are enunciated by liquid chromatograph mass spectrometry *** work provides an effective approach for constructing high-performance photocatalysts that have potential in environmental remediation.

Protecting private data in smart homes,a popular Internet-of-Things(IoT)application,remains a significant data security and privacy challenge due to the large-scale development and distributed nature of IoT ***,smart healthcare has leveraged smart home systems,thereby compounding security concerns in terms of the confidentiality of sensitive and private data and by extension the privacy of the data ***,proof-of-authority(PoA)-based blockchain distributed ledger technology(DLT)has emerged as a promising solution for protecting private data from indiscriminate use and thereby preserving the privacy of individuals residing in IoT-enabled smart *** review elicits some concerns,issues,and problems that have hindered the adoption of blockchain and IoT(BCoT)in some domains and suggests requisite solutions using the aging-in-place *** issues with BCoT were examined as well as the combined challenges BCoT can pose when utilised for security *** study discusses recent findings,opportunities,and barriers,and provides recommendations that could facilitate the continuous growth of blockchain applications in ***,the study explored the potential of using a PoA-based permission blockchain with an applicable consent-based privacy model for decision-making in the information disclosure process,including the use of publisher-subscriber contracts for fine-grained access control to ensure secure data processing and sharing,as well as ethical trust in personal information disclosure,as a solution *** proposed authorisation framework could guarantee data ownership,conditional access management,scalable and tamper-proof data storage,and a more resilient system against threat models such as interception and insider attacks.

Designated critical habitats for *** species are not protected from climate and land-use change

Designation of critical habitat is an important conservation tool for species listed as threatened or endangered under the United States(U.S.)Endangered Species Act(ESA).While this is an important protective mechanism,lands designated as critical habitat could still be subject to degradation and fragmentation if they are not also in a protected status that prioritizes biodiversity ***,most designations of critical habitat do not explicitly take climate change into *** objective of our study was to determine whether and to what extent critical habitats for species listed under the ESA are located within protected areas and areas previously identified as climate refugia or climate corridors,to inform management strategies to better conserve and recover these *** mapped the designated critical habitats of 153 ESA-listed species and measured their overlap with previously-identified areas of climate refugia and corridors(CRC),and also with lands designated as nature-protected by *** Survey’s Gap Analysis Project(GAP Status 1 or 2)and working lands with wildlife habitat potential(GAP Status 3).Only 18%of all designated critical habitat is located on lands that are both in CRC and nature-protected,and only 9%of species had over half of their designated critical habitats in such lands.84%of species had<25%overlap of their critical habitats with these *** habitats may therefore not fulfill their essential role of helping imperiled species persist and recover.

A decomposition of light’s spin angular momentum density

Light carries intrinsic spin angular momentum(SAM)when the electric or magnetic field vector rotates over time.A familiar vector equation calculates the direction of light’s SAM density using the right-hand rule with reference to the electric and magnetic polarisation *** Maxwell’s equations,this vector equation can be decomposed into a sum of two distinct terms,akin to the well-known Poynting vector decomposition into orbital and spin *** present the first general study of this spin decomposition,showing that the two terms,which we call canonical and Poynting spin,are chiral analogies to the canonical and spin momenta of light in its interaction with *** canonical momentum,canonical spin is directly *** canonical and Poynting spin incorporate spatial variation of the electric and magnetic fields and are influenced by optical *** decomposition allows us to show that a linearly polarised vortex beam,which has no total SAM,can nevertheless exert longitudinal chiral pressure due to equal and opposite canonical and Poynting spins.

A Neuro T-Norm Fuzzy Logic Based System

In this study, we are first examining well-known approach to improve fuzzy reasoning model (FRM) by use of the genetic-based learning mechanism [1]. Later we propose our alternative way to build FRM, which has significant precision advantages and does not require any adjustment/learning. We put together neuro-fuzzy system (NFS) to connect the set of exemplar input feature vectors (FV) with associated output label (target), both represented by their membership functions (MF). Next unknown FV would be classified by getting upper value of current output MF. After that the fuzzy truths for all MF upper values are maximized and the label of the winner is considered as the class of the input FV. We use the knowledge in the exemplar-label pairs directly with no training. It sets up automatically and then classifies all input FV from the same population as the exemplar FVs. We show that our approach statistically is almost twice as accurate, as well-known genetic-based learning mechanism FRM.

The demand for particleboard is increasing along with economic and population ***,two major barriers to the manufacture of particleboard are a shortage of raw materials(woodchips)and the emission of formaldehyde from conventional *** by-products such as corn stalks contain an abundance of renewable lignocellulosic *** study evaluates the effect of citric acid as a natural adhesive and fire retardant addition on the physical,mechanical,and fire retardancy properties of particleboards fabricated from corn stalks.A cost-effective and inorganic salt,calcium carbonate,was tested to enhance the fire *** dihydrogen phosphate was also considered as a comparative *** with the addition of calcium carbonate was pretreated with sodium *** particleboards were pressed for 10 min at 200℃.Japanese Industrial Standard JIS A 5908:2022 was used as the benchmark for the physical and mechanical *** retardancy was dynamically tested by simulating a Bushfire Attack Level of 19 kW/m^(2).The particleboard with 25 wt%citric acid had superior mechanical properties and complied with the JIS A 5908 standard for Type 13 base par*** with the addition of calcium carbonate(5%and 10%)showed significantly delayed pyrolysis time.
