AIM: To establish the potential of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHBHHx) as a material for tendon repair. METHODS: The biocompatibility of PHBHHx with both rat tenocytes (rT) and human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) was explored by monitoring adhesive characteristics on films of varying weight/volume ratios coupled to a culture atmosphere of either 21% O2 (air) or 2% O2 (physiological normoxia). The diameter and stiffness of PHBHHx films was established using optical coherence tomography and mechanical testing, respectively. RESULTS: Film thickness correlated directly with weight/volume PHBHHx (r2 = 0.9473) ranging from 0.1 mm (0.8% weight/volume) to 0.19 mm (2.4% weight/volume). Film stiffness on the other hand displayed a biphasic response which increased rapidly at values > 1.6% weight/volume. Optimal cell attachment of rT required films of ≥ 1.6% and ≥ 2.0% weight/volume PHBHHx in 2% O2 and 21% O2 respectively. A qualitative adhesion increase was noted for hMSC in films ≥ 1.2% weight/volume, becoming significant at 2% weight/volume in 2% O2. An increase in cell adhesion was also noted with ≥ 2% weight/volume PHBHHx in 21% O2. Cell migration into films was not observed. CONCLUSION: This evaluation demonstrates that PHBHHx is a suitable polymer for future cell/polymer replacement strategies in tendon repair.

Grape cluster architecture and compactness are complex traits influencing disease susceptibility,fruit quality,and *** methods for these traits include visual scoring,manual methodologies,and computer vision,with the latter being the most scalable *** of the existing computer vision approaches for processing cluster images often rely on conventional segmentation or machine learning with extensive training and limited *** Segment Anything Model(SAM),a novel foundation model trained on a massive image dataset,enables automated object segmentation without additional *** study demonstrates out-of-the-box SAM's high accuracy in identifying individual berries in 2-dimensional(2D)cluster *** this model,we managed to segment approximately 3,500 cluster images,generating over 150,000 berry masks,each linked with spatial coordinates within their *** correlation between human-identified berries and SAM predictions was very strong(Pearson's r^(2)=0.96).Although the visible berry count in images typically underestimates the actual cluster berry count due to visibility issues,we demonstrated that this discrepancy could be adjusted using a linear regression model(adjusted R^(2)=0.87).We emphasized the critical importance of the angle at which the cluster is imaged,noting its substantial effect on berry counts and *** proposed different approaches in which berry location information facilitated the calculation of complex features related to cluster architecture and ***,we discussed SAM's potential integration into currently available pipelines for image generation and processing in vineyard conditions.

The interest in the development and improvement of dynamic global vegetation models （DGVMs）, which have the potential to simulate fluxes of carbon, water and nitrogen, along with changes in the vegetation dynamics, within an integrated system, has been increasing. In this paper, some numerical schemes and a higher resolution soil texture dataset were employed to improve the Sheffield Dynamic Global Vegetation Model （SDGVM）. Using eddy covariance-based measurements, we then tested the standard version of the SDGVM and the modified version of the SDGVM. Detailed observations of daily carbon and water fluxes made at the upland oak forest on the Walker Branch Watershed in Tennessee, USA offered a unique opportunity for these comparisons. The results revealed that the modified version of the SDGVM did a reasonable job of simulating the carbon and water flux and the variation of soil water content （SWC）. However, at the end of the growing season, it failed to simulate the effect of the limitations on the soil respiration dynamics and as a result underestimated this respiration. It was also noted that the modified version overestimated the increase in the SWC following summer rainfall, which was attributed to an inadequate representation of the ground water and thermal cycle.

Hard carbon derived from bamboo for the anode material of sodium-ion batteries has a three-dimensional(3D) open framework structure and has naturally incorporated K-ions into its carbon structure,increasing the dinterlayer spacing of hard carbon materials for facilitating Na^(+) *** this work,bamboo-derived hard carbon was prepared via two carbonization temperatures at 700and 1000 ℃ for an hour and employed as an anode for sodium-ion batteries(SIB).X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Fourier transform(FT)-Raman spectroscopic results indicated the disordered structure with d-spacing(d_(002)) around0.36-0.37 nm,which is a benefit for sodium ion insertion/***,the composition between carbon-nanotube(CNT) and bamboo-derived hard carbon(BB) was synthesized by a ball mill with various contents of CNT(1 wt%,5 wt% and 10 wt%).At the optimal CNT content of 5 wt%,the sample exhibited excellent performance and outstanding *** the anode,the half-cell SIB using BB(700)w@5%CNT(with a carbonization temperature of700 ℃ and CNT loading of 5 wt%) delivered a high initial specific capacity of 268.9 mAh·g^(-1) at 0.1C and capacity retention of 78.6% after 500 cycles at *** full cell SIB fabrication BB(700)w@5%CNT in combination with Na_(3)V_(2)(PO4)_(3) as the cathode demonstrated a high specific capacity of 127.6 mAh·g^(-1) at 0.2C with its capacitive retention remaining of 78% at 1.0C after 1000 *** attained storage performance indicates that hard carbonCNT composite anode material enhanced the conductive path of electron transport and provided long-term cycling *** good electrochemical performance as well as the low cost and environment-friendliness of the bambooderived hard carbon proves its suitability for future sodium-ion batteries.

The REFLECT Psychological Services Audit Framework was developed to address critical gaps in the evaluation of mental health services, primarily within Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) and psychological services. This study aims to assess the framework’s impact on clinical outcomes, financial oversight, staff well-being, and risk management. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data—including paired t-tests, regression analysis, and Chi-square tests—with qualitative insights from semi-structured interviews and focus groups. Quantitative data were collected across 10 EAPs, evaluating 100 clients using the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scales for depression and anxiety, respectively, and 50 staff members using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Financial data included budget allocation efficiency and cost-effectiveness metrics. Risk management was assessed through safeguarding incidents and incident reporting time. Results revealed significant improvements across all key domains: client mental health outcomes (PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores significantly reduced, p [1] offers a comprehensive, evidence-based tool for improving service quality, financial efficiency, and clinician support in psychological services.

Magnetic resonance elastography(MRE) is an innovative imaging technique for the non-invasive quantification of the biomechanical properties of soft tissues via the direct visualization of propagating shear waves in vivo using a modified phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) sequence. Fundamentally,MRE employs the same physical property that physicians utilize when performing manual palpation- that healthy and diseased tissues can be differentiated on the basis of widely differing mechanical stiffness. By performing "virtual palpation ",MRE is able to provide information that is beyond the capabilities of conventional morphologic imaging modalities. In an era of increasing adoption of multi-parametric imaging approaches for solving complex problems,MRE can be seamlessly incorporated into a standard MRI examination to provide a rapid,reliable and comprehensive imaging evaluation at a single patient appointment. Originally described by the Mayo Clinic in 1995,the technique represents the most accurate non-invasive method for the detection and staging of liver fibrosis and is currently performed in more than 100 centers worldwide. In this general review,the mechanical properties of soft tissues,principles of MRE,clinical applications of MRE in the liver and beyond,and limitations and future directions of this discipline-are discussed. Selected diagrams and images are provided for illustration.
