Expression of Recombinant Tryptophan Decarboxylase in Different Subcellular Compartments in Tobacco Plant

The gene encoded for tryptophan decarboxylase (TDC), which is the key enzyme in terpenoil indole alkaloids pathway, was targeted to different subcellular compartments and stably expressed in transgenic tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) plants at the levels detected by Western blot and tryptamine accumulation analysis. It was shown that the TDC was located in subcellular compartments, the chloroplasts and cytosol. The recombinant TDC targeted to chloroplasts and cytosol in tobacco plants was effectively expressed as soluble protein by Western blot analysis and enzymatic assay. The level of tryptamine accumulation in chloroplast was higher than that in cytosol and very low in vacuole and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to be hardly detected by Western blot analysis. It was indicated that the highest amount of tryptamine was in chloroplasts, lower in endoplasmic reticula and the lowest in vacuoles as compared to those in wild type plants. The TDC targeted to different subcellular compartments of tobacco plants and its expression level were studied by different nucleotide sequences coding signal peptides at 5'-end of tdc gene in order to know the effects of the TDC in compartmentation on its functionality.

From 1980’s decade,the introduction of carbon composite materials in structural applications has been consistently increased in the successive generations of civil aircraft from Single Aisle to Middle-long Range to achieve a culminant point with more than 50%in structure weight in recent commercial civil *** evolution,done through successive iterations,has been possible by combining in the same time the improvement of intrinsic composite material performances and its transformation into prepreg production technologies together with the development of new manufacturing process for material lay-up automation at composite shop-floor manufacturer of aircraft composite *** challenges are still coming to continuously develop materials and technologies in order to pursue the production more cost-effective composite *** to higher aircraft production rate for single aisle,new challenges may force material and aircraft designers and producers to furthermore drive new products and processes introduction and new ways of transformation within in next decade of composite aircraft *** propose to illustrate these trends using past and recent developments and our return of experience from Hexcel on Civil Aircraft programs.

Predictive factors of survival in patients treated with definitive chemoradiotherapy for squamous cell esophageal carcinoma

AIM： The aim of the study was to evaluate the predictive factors of survival in patients with locally advanced squamous cell esophageal carcinoma （LASCOC） treated with definitive chemoradiotherapy （CRT） regimen based on the 5FU/CDDP combination. METHODS： All patients with LASCOC treated with a definitive CRT using the 5FU/CDDP combination between 1994 and 2000 were retrospectively included. Clinical complete response （CCR） to CRT was assessed by esophageal endoscopy and C-F-scan 2 mo after CRT completion. Prognostic factors of survival were assessed using univariate and multivariate analysis by the Cox regression model. RESULTS： A total of 116 patients were included in the study. A CCR to CRT was observed in 86/116 （74.1%）. The median survival was 20 mo （range 2-114） and the 5-year survival was 9.4%. Median survival of responder patients to CRT was 25 mo （range 3-114） as compared to 9 mo （range 2-81） in non-responder patients （P 〈 0.001）. In univariate analysis, survival was associated with CCR （P 〈 0.001）, WHO performance status 〈 2 （P = 0.01）, tumour length 〈 6 cm （P = 0.045） and weight loss 〈 10% was in limit of significance （P = 0.053）. In multivariate analysis, survival was dependant to CCR （P 〈 0.0001）, weight loss 〈 10% （P = 0.034） and WHO performance 〈 2 （P = 0.046）. CONCLUSION： Our results suggest that survival in patients with LASCOC b＇eated with definitive CRT was correlated to CCR, weight loss and WHO performance status.

The food industry is evolving more towards new forms of organization much more complex and characterized by a greater degree of coordination, whether in the form of vertical integration of explicit or implicit contracts between players of different levels of the industry. Therefore, the aim of this work is the search for mechanisms that can provide value to the production phase to better increase competitiveness of the sector. For the first time, in fact, discussion about food chains have as reference a recognized legal entity, which is the integrated projects of food chain as a result of actions of agricultural policy at community, national and regional levels. The methodology is related to two steps： the administration of questionnaires to the three companies participating in food chain partnerships that have proposed a draft of integrated design of food chain in response to the notice of the Apulia region for the submission of the integrated projects of the food chain; and a cluster analysis in the wine sector of the Italian regions. The results showed, thanks to Network Analysis, the importance for the chain development of relationships formed by market relations and cooperation relations （formal and informal） and the need for more actions for the enhancement of products by research and development activities.

Selective Ig M deficiency(s IGMD)is very rare;it may be associated with celiac disease(CD).We present the case of an 18-year-old man with s IGMD masking seronegative *** included abdominal pain,diarrhea and weight *** tests showed reduced Ig M,DQ2-HLA and negative *** atrophy and diffuse immature lymphocytes were observed at *** transglutaminase m RNA mucosal levels showed a 6-fold *** patient was treated with a gluten-free diet(GFD)and six months later the symptoms had disappeared,the villous architecture was restored and mucosal tissue transglutaminase m RNA was comparable to that of healthy *** 1 year of GFD,a complete restoration of normal Ig M values was observed and duodenal biopsy showed a reduction of immature lymphocytes and normal appearance of mature immune cells.

Photonic and plasmonic devices rely on nanoscale control of the local density of optical states(LDOS)in dielectric and metallic *** tremendous progress in designing and tailoring the electric LDOS of nano-resonators requires an investigation tool that is able to access the detailed features of the optical localized resonant modes with deep-subwavelength spatial *** scenario has motivated the development of different nanoscale imaging ***,we prove that a technique involving the combination of scanning near-field optical microscopy with resonant scattering spectroscopy enables imaging the electric LDOS in nano-resonators with outstanding spatial resolution(λ/19)by means of a pure optical method based on light *** this technique,we investigate the properties of photonic crystal nanocavities,demonstrating that the resonant modes appear as characteristic Fano line shapes,which arise from ***,by monitoring the spatial variation of the Fano line shape,we locally measure the phase modulation of the resonant modes without the need of external heterodyne *** novel,deep-subwavelength imaging method allows us to access both the intensity and the phase modulation of localized electric ***,this technique could be implemented on any type of platform,being particularly appealing for those based on non-optically active material,such as silicon,glass,polymers,or metals.

Trends in U.S. Primary Care Provider Patient Advice Against Secondhand Smoke Exposure: 2008-2010

Background: Recent studies further expose the dangers of secondhand smoke (SHS) to smokers and nonsmokers alike. The health care visit provides a face-to-face opportunity to deliver vital information about those dangers, yet, little is known about primary care providers (PCPs) who address this topic with their patients in clinical practice. Purpose: We examined primary care providers’ advice to patients regarding SHS exposure and the factors promoting such communication. Methods: Data from 3 years (2008, 2009, and 2010) of physician questionnaires (approximately 1250 family/general practitioners, internists, and obstetricians/gynecologists (OBs/GYNs) were used to examine physician advice to patients with children, to smokers and to nonsmokers to prevent or avoid SHS exposure. Using 2010 data we evaluated descriptive statistics and logistic regression for offering patient advice regarding SHS exposure. Results: Web-based data revealed that almost 90% of PCPs advise patients with children to keep their children from being exposed to SHS, 80% advise patients who smoke to avoid exposing others to SHS in their homes and cars, and 70% advise nonsmokers to avoid general exposure to SHS. Logistic regression analysis indicated that OB/GYNs were less likely to engage in SHS counseling than their family practice/general practitioner colleagues. Conclusions: Physician efforts advising patients to avoid SHS exposure varied little in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Primary care providers, particularly OB/GYNs, are encouraged to advise their patients during routine visits to avoid SHS exposure that could compromise fetal health and growth.
