The Sergipano Orogenic System(SOS)in southern Borborema Province(NE Brazil)hosts voluminous Neoproterozoic plutonism related to the Brasiliano/Pan-African Orogeny.This paper presents comprehensive whole-rock geochemical data,titanite U-Pb ages,and the first combined zircon U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotope results for plutonic rocks from the MacururéDomain to constrain their sources,petrogenesis,and tectonic setting.Three magmatic episodes are recognized and record the evolutionary stages of the orogen.(i)Early-collisional magmatism(643–628 Ma)comprises gabbros and diorites with minor tonalites characterized by well-developed tectonic foliation and evidence of solid-state deformation.These rocks are magnesian,high-K calc-alkaline,LILE-and LREE-enriched and provide subchondriticε_(Hf)(t)values(6.5 to4.7)and Orosirian Hf-T^(C)_(DM)model ages(1.83–1.94 Ga).Such features indicate derivation from a lithospheric mantle source metasomatized by incorporating crustal components through subduction processes prior to magma generation,possibly related to the Rhyacian Orogeny(2.20–1.96 Ga).Extensive mixing/mingling between basaltic and crust-derived magmas took place at lower crustal depths,producing coeval hybrid diorites and quartz-diorites.(ii)Syn-collisional magmatism(630–624 Ma)encompasses biotite-and muscovite-bearing granodiorites and monzogranites,preserving their structures parallel to the schistosity of the country rocks.These rocks are leucocratic,weakly metaluminous to peraluminous,and contain abundant surmicaceous enclaves.Petrographic features and geochemical composition suggest an origin related to the partial melting of graywacke protoliths with a subordinate igneous component.(iii)Late-collisional magmatism(625–600 Ma)includes undeformed and isotropic monzonites and granodiorites,which truncate the regional foliation.These rocks are consistently metaluminous and magnesian,showing affinities with the high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonite series.Trace element modeling with subchondriticε_(Hf)(t)values(8.3 to4.1)and Paleo

The impact of biophilic design in Maggie’s Centres:A meta-synthesis analysis

This paper presents a meta-synthesis conducted to identify,compare and synthesize published qualitative data related to the Maggie’s Centres,as a paradigmatic architectural example in the provision of non-institutional cancer support.These centres are internationally renowned for their unique architecture,where the careful design of indoors and outdoors spaces plays a critical role in their agenda for supporting care.Previous research has thoroughly analysed this approach to therapeutic environments,not only confirming the importance of designed space as originally conceived in Maggie’s philosophy but also identifying precise supporting effects associated with specific elements within their design.This paper aims to provide a new reading of Maggie’s contribution to cancer support by offering an examination of all these data through the lens of biophilia,which clarifies the impact of design decisions connected to nature on cancer patients’lives.The analytic process included a systematic search strategy,extraction and classification of salient concepts using an opencoding approach,and lastly an interpretive evaluation.The systematically selected data helped to identify and rank the biophilic design parameters that appear the most critical for promoting and supporting human health and wellbeing in non-clinical therapeutic environments,from the user’s perspective.It also provided a compilation of distinctive design interventions related to biophilic parameters,which provides benchmark information for future research and design guidance in these environments.

Ocular ultrasound evaluation of optic nerve sheath diameter in military environments

In this letter to the Editor, we would like to comment on the article by Betcher et al., concerning the possibility of teaching military trainees to obtain accurate optic nerve sheath diameter measurements, using a brief didactic and a hands-on training session. In particular, this letter notes the importance of the measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter in detecting the eventual elevated intracranial pressure following traumatic brain injury, highlights several limitations in the use of B-scan for such a purpose and suggests a more accurate evaluation with the standardized A-scan.

Materials for the study of the locus operandi in the search for missing persons in Italy

Geographic profiling,or locus operandi,is a scientific approach that has been applied to forensic investigations for several years.However,it has never been applied to a phenomenon as complex as the search for missing persons.This article presents three Italian case studies in which geographic profiling was used to narrow the areas to search for missing persons.The geographical data were mapped and processed on a geographic information system platform using computational geometry analysis.However,these disappearances occurred during the Italian lockdown period,imposed to address the COVID-19 outbreak,which made the searches slower and more complex than usual.

Usefulness of the CONUT index upon hospital admission as a potential prognostic indicator of COVID-19 health outcomes

Background:In-hospital mortality in patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is high.Simple prognostic indices are needed to identify patients at high-risk of COVID-19 health outcomes.We aimed to determine the usefulness of the CONtrolling NUTritional status(CONUT)index as a potential prognostic indicator of mortality in COVID-19 patients upon hospital admission.Methods:Our study design is of a retrospective observational study in a large cohort of COVID-19 patients.In addition to descriptive statistics,a Kaplan-Meier mortality analysis and a Cox regression were performed,as well as receiver operating curve(ROC).Results:From February 5,2020 to January 21,2021,there was a total of 2969 admissions for COVID-19 at our hospital,corresponding to 2844 patients.Overall,baseline(within 4 days of admission)CONUT index could be scored for 1627(57.2%)patients.Patients’age was 67.3±16.5 years and 44.9%were women.The CONUT severity distribution was:194(11.9%)normal(0-1);769(47.2%)light(2-4);585(35.9%)moderate(5-8);and 79(4.9%)severe(9-12).Mortality of 30 days after admission was 3.1%in patients with normal risk CONUT,9.0%light,22.7%moderate,and 40.5%in those with severe CONUT(Pdeath associated with a greater baseline CONUT stage was sustained in a multivariable Cox regression model(Pder the curve(AUC)and 95%confidence interval of 0.711(0.676-0746).Conclusion:The CONUT index upon admission is potentially a reliable and independent prognostic indicator of mortality and length of hospitalization in COVID-19 patients.

Social Rights and Work on Digital Platforms in Brazil:The Case of“Breque dos Apps”

The movement known as“Breque dos Apps”was a social movement of a striker nature,which took place in Brazil in July 2020.Such movement was organized by workers which provided services to delivery apps(like iFood,Loggi,Uber Eats and Rappi).They demanded better working conditions and social protection measures,since they were out of the protection of the Brazilian legal system.The reason for this lies in the fact that there is a debate about the classification of these workers-the maximum expression of the gig economy-as employees under Brazilian legislation.As a result,and with the exponential growth in the use of these applications due to the Covid-19 pandemic,thousands of workers were left on the fringes of any social protection.This study aims to analyze the aforementioned movement and its demands within the paradigm of social rights,especially the ones regarding collective representation,which are guaranteed by the Brazilian Constitution.In terms of methodology,the content analysis method will be applied,considering that the established objective presupposes the study of theoretical and legal texts that allow the structuring of concepts applicable to the theme.The research technique to be adopted will be the analysis of indirect documentation,that is,literature review,to be carried out through bibliographic and documentary research,focused on literature and legal texts related to the topic.

Long term results of no- alcohol laser epithelial keratomileusis and photorefractive keratectomy for myopia

AIM: To evaluate the long term clinical results of mechanical no-alcohol-assisted laser epithelial keratomileusis(LASEK) versus standard photorefractive keratectomy(PRK) for low-moderate myopia.METHODS: Twenty-five eyes treated with LASEK and twenty-five eyes treated with PRK were evaluated with a mean follow-up duration of 60 mo. Mechanical separation of the epithelium was performed with blunt spatula and without application of alcohol. Laser ablation was performed with the MEL-70 excimer laser. All patients were examined daily until epithelial closure; at 1, 3, 6,and 12 mo, and every year subsequently. Main outcome measures were uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA),manifest refraction, haze, efficacy and safety indexes.RESULTS: Twenty-one eyes and 22 eyes completed follow-up of 60 mo in LASEK and PRK group respectively. Manifest refraction at 60 mo follow-up was-0.01 and 0.26 in LASEK and PRK group respectively. In the LASEK group mean UDVA and mean CDVA after60 mo were 20/22 and 20/20 respectively(P >0.01). In the PRK group mean UDVA and mean CDVA at 60 mo follow-up were 20/20 and 20/20 after 60mo(P >0.01). The efficacy indexes were 0.87 and 0.95, and the safety indexes were1.25 and 1.4 respectively for LASEK group and PRK group.CONCLUSION: Both standard PRK and no-alcohol LASEK offer safe and effective correction of low-moderate myopia in the long term without any statistically significant difference between the two groups.

Thermally stable ultrafine grained copper induced by CrB/CrB_(2) microparticles with surface nanofeatures via regular casting

Ultrafine-grained(UFG)/nanocrystalline materials possess novel properties. Refining as-solidified grains of metals to the ultrafine and even nanometer scale by nanoparticles via slow cooling has been recently discovered. Here, we report that microparticles(CrB and CrB_(2)) with surface nanofeatures can also enable ultrafine/nano grains via slow cooling. CrB/CrB_(2) microparticles, formed by coalescence of nanoparticles in Cu matrix, display surface nanofeatures, which induce substantial grain refinement and stabilization down to the ultrafine/nano scale. The UFG Cu/Cr B and Cu/CrB_(2) samples exhibit exceptional thermal stability, comparable to UFG Cu induced by nanoparticles, without coarsening after annealing at 600°C for 1 h. The microhardness, strengths, and Young's moduli of the Cu/Cr B and Cu/CrB_(2) samples are significantly enhanced over pure Cu. This discovery has great potential to advance the mass production UFG/nanocrystalline for widespread applications.

Sudden death due to valvular heart disease is reported to range from 1% to 5% in native valves and around 0.2%-0.9%/year in prosthesis.The nature of the diseases is varied,from heritable,congenital to acquired.It may affect both genders in multiple age groups.The authors show and comment examples of the major nosologic aetiologies underlying unexpected exitus letalis of valvular nature.

Large-Scale Group decision Making:A Systematic Review and a Critical Analysis

The society in the digital transformation era demands new decision schemes such as e-democracy or based on social media.Such novel decision schemes require the participation of many experts/decision makers/stakeholders in the decision processes.As a result,large-scale group decision making(LSGDM)has attracted the attention of many researchers in the last decade and many studies have been conducted in order to face the challenges associated with the topic.Therefore,this paper aims at reviewing the most relevant studies about LSGDM,identifying the most profitable research trends and analyzing them from a critical point of view.To do so,the Web of Science database has been consulted by using different searches.From these results a total of 241 contributions were found and a selection process regarding language,type of contribution and actual relation with the studied topic was then carried out.The 87 contributions finally selected for this review have been analyzed from four points of view that have been highly remarked in the topic,such as the preference structure in which decision-makers’opinions are modeled,the group decision rules used to define the decision making process,the techniques applied to verify the quality of these models and their applications to real world problems solving.Afterwards,a critical analysis of the main limitations of the existing proposals is developed.Finally,taking into account these limitations,new research lines for LSGDM are proposed and the main challenges are stressed out.
