Oxidative stress indicators in human and bottlenose dolphin leukocytes in response to a pro-inflammatory challenge

Marine mammals undergo cycles of tissue ischemia and reperfusion during the dive *** injury can result in oxidative tissue damage and the activation of a pro-inflammatory immune *** risk of oxidative damage is reduced by *** hypothesis is that the reported higher antioxidant defenses within marine mammal tissues provide additional protection in situations that produce oxidative stress,like inflammation,in comparison to terrestrial mammal *** were isolated from the whole blood of Pacific bottlenose dolphins(Tursiops truncatus gilli)and humans(Homo sapiens)and were exposed to lipopolysaccharides(LPs,10μg/mL)in vitro to simulate a pro-inflammatory *** stress indicators,including superoxide radical(O_(2)^(•−))production,activities of superoxide dismutase(sOD),catalase(CAT),glutathione peroxidase(GPx),glutathione reductase(GR),and glutathione s-transferase(GsT),as well as oxidative protein damage,were quantified by *** 48 h under experimental conditions,bottlenose dolphin leukocytes produced 1.9 times more O_(2)^(•−)but displayed 2.0 times lower protein carbonyl concentrations compared to human *** 48 h under experimental conditions,bottlenose dolphin leukocytes displayed 7.9,2.0,11.1,and 3.3 times more activities of CAT,GPx,GR,and GsT,respectively,compared to human *** results suggest that,under cell culture conditions,the antioxidant defenses in bottlenose dolphin leukocytes provide additional protection against pro-inflammatory challenges in comparison to human leukocytes,likely as an adaptive advantage.

Differences in arsenic, molybdenum, barium, and other physicochemical relationships in groundwater between sites with and without mining activities

The characteristic relationships of trace metals and other water quality parameters in a specific region can be affected by anthropogenic activeties. since the mid-18th century in the southwestern part of the Baja California Peninsula, intermittent gold mining activities have been developed. We analyzed 36 water quality parameters in accordance with the procedures suggested by international agencies to evaluate the impact of this activity and the time of year on the mobilization of trace element levels and their relationships in groundwater. Quantifiable levels of molybdenum help to establish the area influenced by ore deposits because it is one of the three elements in the paragenesis associated to gold. Arsenic in sites closer to ore burning areas was associated with cobalt, indicating the potential presence of a by-product generated from arsenolite;whereas in the non-mineralized area, it was associated with barium, forming a compound that tends to precipitate, thereby maintaining a natural geochemical control in this region. From the sites sampled, 45% exceeded the limit for arsenic (10 μg/l) established by international agencies. During area monitoring with annual precipitation of 207 mm, only seven of 36 parameters analyzed showed significant differences in relation to time of year.

In recent decades,several optimization algorithms have been developed for selecting the most energy efficient clusters in order to save power during trans-mission to a shorter distance while restricting the Primary Users(PUs)*** Cognitive Radio(CR)system is based on the Adaptive swarm Distributed Intelligent based Clustering algorithm(AsDIC)that shows better spectrum sensing among group of multiusers in terms of sensing error,power sav-ing,and convergence *** this research paper,the proposed AsDIC algorithm develops better energy efficient distributed cluster based sensing with the optimal number of clusters on their *** this research,multiple random sec-ondary Users(sUs),and PUs are considered for ***,the pro-posed AsDIC algorithm improved the convergence speed by combining the multi-users clustered communication compared to the existing optimization *** results showed that the proposed AsDIC algorithm reduced the node power of 9.646%compared to the existing ***,AsDIC algorithm reduced 24.23%of sUs average node power compared to the existing *** of detection is higher by reducing the signal-to-Noise Ratio(sNR)to 2 dB *** proposed AsDIC delivers low false alarm rate compared to other existing optimization algorithms in the primary *** results showed that the proposed AsDIC algorithm effectively solves the multimodal optimization problems and maximizes the performance of net-work capacity.

The distribution of biota in estuaries is influenced by watershed and estuary *** used landscape analysis to identify the linkages of several estuarine responses with watershed and estuarine characteristics for sballow subestuaries of Chesapeake Bay,UsA and their local watersheds We analyzed the effects of watershed use and subestuary characteristics on submerged aquatic vegetation(sav) abundance in 101 subestuaries during 1984-2003.A classification regression tree(CART)model indicated that 60% of the variance in sav abundance could be explained by subestuary fractal dimension, mean tidal range,local watershed land use,watershed to subestuary area ratio,and mean wave ***-measures ANOVA showed that sav abundance declined with the dominant watershed land use in the order:forested,mixed-undisturbed,mixed-developed＞ mixed-agricultural＞agricultural＞*** point analyses indicated strong threshold responses of sav abundance to the proportion of developed land,point source nutrient inputs and the density of septic systems in the *** sampled 19 subestuaries to test hypothesized relationships of blue crabs(Callinectes sapidus) and bivalves(Macoma balthica and ***)with landscape *** measured water quality,sediment class,physical habitat characteristics,and adjacent land use at each of six stations within each *** nets were employed to estimate blue crab abundance and size-structure,while cores were used to estimate bivalve densities and *** analysis indicated that 51% of the variance in blue crab abundance could be explained by salinity, watershed land use and shoreline marsh *** related subestuary average measurements of total Polychlorinated biphenyl(PCB) concentrations in white perch(Morone americana)to the amount and spatial arrangement of developed land in watersheds that discharge into 14 *** considered the intensity of development in watersheds using four develo

目的了解深圳地区婴幼儿人类杯状病毒(HuCV)感染状况和对HuCV阳性病毒株进行基因型分析。方法采集连续二个秋冬季腹泻流行期间来深圳儿童医院就诊的临床检验已排除寄生虫、细菌性腹泻和轮状病毒检测结果为阴性的3岁以下腹泻患儿粪便标本226份,应用分型引物RT-PCR法检测HuCV的诺如病毒(norovirus,NoV)G和G群和扎如病毒(sappovirus,sav),扩增产物通过1.5 g/dl琼脂糖凝胶电泳鉴定。部分阳性标本测序,结合GenBank参考株相应核苷酸序列进行进化和型别流行特点分析。结果HuCV阳性率11.06%(25/226),其中NoV阳性率10.62%(24/226),sav阳性率0.44%(1/226),检测出NoV阳性株G/4群18株,G/3群5株,1株尚不能确定所属群(占4.17%,1/24)。1株sav为sG/1群。7月~24月龄为NoV高发年龄段。结论HuCV是深圳地区婴幼儿冬季腹泻的重要病原体之一,流行株为NoV的G/4群,同时,还发现sav的sG/1群存在。
