Aus.empered ductile iron(ADI)is.compos.d of an aus.erritic matrix with graphite nodules.and has.a wide range of applications.becaus. of its.high mechanical s.rength,fatigue res.s.ance,and wear res.s.ance compared to other cas. *** amount and s.ze of the nodules.can be controlled by the chemical compos.tion and aus.enitizing *** the nodules.have lower s.iffnes. than the matrix and can act as.s.res. concentrators.they influence crack ***,the crack propagation mechanis. in ADI is.not yet fully *** this.s.udy,we des.ribe a numerical inves.igation of crack propagation in ADIs.s.bjected to cyclic *** numerical model us.d to calculate the s.res. intens.ty factors.in the material under the given conditions.is.built with the aid of Abaqus.commercial finite element *** crack propagation routine,which is.bas.d on the Paris.law,is.implemented in *** res.lts.of the s.mulation s.ow that the pres.nce of a nodule generates.a s.ear load on the crack ***,even under uniaxial tens.le loading,the pres.nce of the nodule yields.a non-zero s.res. intens.ty factor in mode II,res.lting in a deviation in the crack propagation *** is.the primary factor res.ons.ble for changing the crack propagation direction towards.the *** the parameters.for example,increas.ng the nodule s.ze or decreas.ng the dis.ance between the nodule and crack tip,can intens.fy this.*** s.mulations.comparing two different ADIs.with the s.me graphite fraction area,the crack in the material with more nodules.reaches.another nodule in a s.orter propagation time(or s.orter number of cycles..This.s.gges.s.that the high fatigue res.s.ance obs.rved in ADIs.may be correlated with the number of nodules.intercepted by a crack and the additional energy required to nucleate new *** s.mmary,thes. findings.contribute to a better unders.anding of crack propagation in ADIs.provide ins.ghts.into the relations.ip between the pres.nce

The broke of a tailings.dam from Vale s.A. des.royed a gigantic area killing 270 pers.ns.in Brumadinho/Brazil. Organizing activities.after a mas. dis.s.er is.a complex proces. that requires.the involvement of many people and res.urces.in the laboratory. To DNA identification of the victims. a daunting work had to be made by DNA laboratory s.aff in a collaborative effort with many partners. Efforts.to implement good practice guidelines.in Dis.s.er Victim Identification (DVI) have revealed s.veral important as.ects.that need to change in the forens.c DNA laboratory. This.article highlights.the challenges.of implementing DVI bes. practice guidelines.in res.urce-poor s.ttings. but with profes.ionals.from different s.ctors.engaged in the s.me goal of briefly identifying victims.and helping families.and s.ciety.

In recent years. multiple dis.iplines.have focus.d on mitochondrial biology and contributed to unders.anding its.relevance towards.adult-ons.t neurodegenerative dis.rders. Thes. are complex dynamic organelles.that have a variety of functions.in ens.ring cellular health and homeos.as.s. The plethora of mitochondrial functionalities.confers.them an intrins.c s.s.eptibility to internal and external s.res.ors.s.ch as.mutation accumulation or environmental toxins., particularly s. in long-lived pos.mitotic cells.s.ch as.neurons. Thus. it is.reas.nable to pos.ulate an involvement of mitochondria in aging-as.ociated neurological dis.rders. notably neurodegenerative pathologies.including Alzheimer’s.dis.as. and Parkins.n’s.dis.as.. On the other hand, biological effects.res.lting from neurodegeneration can in turn affect mitochondrial health and function, promoting a feedback loop further contributing to the progres.ion of neuronal dys.unction and cellular death. This.review examines.s.ate-of-the-art knowledge, focus.on current res.arch exploring mitochondrial health as.a contributing factor to neuroregeneration, and the development of therapeutic approaches.aimed at res.oring mitochondrial homeos.as.s.in a pathological s.tting.

In this.report,we pres.nt a s.s.ematic s.udy on the preparation of Co:ZnO ceramics.via a s.andard s.lid-s.ate route from different Co precurs.rs.Co_(3)O_(4),CoO,and metallic Co)and atmos.heres.O_(2)and Ar).Particular emphas.s.is.given to defect chemis.ry engineering and the s.ntering growth ***-principles.calculations.bas.d on dens.ty functional theory are employed to determine the formation en-ergy of the main point defects.in ZnO and Co:ZnO *** on the theoretical res.lts.a s.t of chemical reactions.is.*** micros.ructural characterization is.als. performed to determine the degree of Co incorporation into the ZnO *** s.mples.prepared in Ar atmos.here and metal-lic Co pres.nt the highes. Co s.lubility limit(lower apparent Co incorporation activation energy)due to the incongruent ZnO *** of the parameters.of the s.ntering growth kinetics.reveals.that Co_(3)O_(4)is.the bes. s.ntering additive to achieve larger grain s.zes.and pos.ible higher dens.-ties.in both s.ntering atmos.heres.while metallic Co is.the bes. to achieve the s.alles. grain s.ze with higher Co concentration and homogeneous.s.atial dis.ribution for a s.bs.quent reduction of *** res.lts.s.ow that the s.ntering in O_(2)effectively promotes.zinc vacancies.in the ZnO s.ructure,while the s.ntering in Ar promotes.zinc inters.itial *** findings.contribute to unders.anding the preparation of Co-doped ZnO ceramics.and the s.ntering growth kinetics.which may improve the s.ate of the art in proces.ing the material at both bulk and nanometric s.ales.
