In the present work, a treatment technique for trigeminal neuralgia (TN) using LINAC radiosurgery is shown. The technique is based on the optimization of ten static arcs in such a way as to minimize the overlapping of the treatment fields with the brainstem. We will call this technique brainstem-optimized (BO). The results are compared with another technique described in the literature known as a virtual cone (VC). The comparison of dosimetry results that have been carried out essentially shows that the doses in the brainstem V12Gy-brainstem, D0.5cmsup>3sup>-brainstem and D0.035 cmsup>3sup>-brainstem are lower in the BO versus VC technique, and with the parameters V50% (whole brain) and V12Gy-cerebrum higher in BO versus VC. Our goal is to keep the dose to the brainstem as low as possible and, if possible, at most between 12 Gy and 15 Gy. The BO technique meets our purposes and is considered clinically acceptable at our institution.

The transport properties of artificially engineered superlattices （sLs） can be tailored by incorporating a high density of interfaces in them. specifically, siGe sLs with low thermal conductivity values have great potential for thermoelectric generation and nano-cooling of si-based devices. Here, we present a novel approach for customizing thermal transport across nanostructures by fabricating si/sil-xGex sLs with well-defined compositional gradients across the siGe layer from x = 0 to 0.60. We demonstrate that the spatial inhomogeneity of the structure has a remarkable effect on the heat-flow propagation, reducing the thermal conductivity to -2.2 W.m-1.K-1, which is significantly less than the values achieved previously with non-optimized long-period sLs. This approach offers further possibilities for future applications in thermoelectricity.

Acute toxicity cffeets of diazinon on European cel (Anguilla anguilla ) was cxamined using short -term exposures in static conditions . The LC50 values were 0. 16. 0, 11, 0.09 and0.08 mg/l al 24. 48. 72 and 96 h exposure . respeclivcly. In additio the cels were exposedio 0.042 mg/ l of diazinon and bioaccumulation and clearance processcs of this insccticidein liver, muscle and gill tissties were studred . Bioconcentration factor (BCF ) of diazinonovcr 96 h cxposure Period was 1850 in livcr, 875 in gill and 775 in musele tissuc. Diazinoncliminalion from the sclccled lissucs was rapid. The excretion ratc constants of thisinsccticidc werc 0.108 h : for Iivcr, 0.055 h for gill and 0.016 h for muscle. Diazinonhalf-lives werc calculatcd as 16.6, 33.2 and 27 h tbr liver, musele and gill , *** showed rclativcly short half lives in eel tissues.

Both exercise and aging increase reactive oxygen species （ROs）, which can result in damage to cells. Aging is the result of damage caused by ROs to the mitochondrial genome in post mitotic cells and numerous studies have demonstrated an increase in ROs or their byproducts with exercise. ROs can cause oxidative stress as they overwhelm the antioxidant cellular defenses. Therefore interventions aimed at limiting or inhibiting ROs production, such as supplementation with antioxidant vitamins, should be able to reduce fatigue during muscle contraction and the rate of formation of aging changes with a consequent reduction of the aging rate and disease pathogenesis. However, it has been shown that ROs are essential signaling molecules which are required to promote the health benefits of exercise and longevity. In young individuals, ROs are required for normal force production in skeletal muscle, for the development of training-induced adaptations in endurance performance, as well as for the induction of the endogenous defense systems. Thus, taking antioxidants during training, in young athletes, seems to be detrimental. However, antioxidant supplementation may be expected to be beneficial and is receiving growing attention in the active old population. In this manuscript we review the literature associated with the main areas of interest in this topic.

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EE) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) have overlapping clinical, manometric, endoscopic and histopathologic features. The diagnosis of EE is nowadays based upon the presence of 15 or more eosinophils per high power field (eo/HPF) in esophageal biopsies. We report the cases of two young males suffering from dysphagia and recurrent food impaction with reflux esophagitis and more than 20 eo/HPF in upper-mid esophagus biopsies, both of which became asymptomatic on proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy. The first patient also achieved a histologic response, while EE remained in the other patient after effective PPI treatment, as shown by 24-h esophageal pH monitoring. Topical steroid therapy combined with PPI led to complete remission in this latter patient. GERD and EE may be undistinguishable, even by histology, so diagnosis of EE should only be established after a careful correlation of clinical, endoscopic and pathologic data obtained under vigorous acid suppression. These diagnostic difficulties are maximal when both diseases overlap. Limited data are available about this topic, and the interaction between EE and GERD is a matter of debate. In this setting, upper-mid esophagus step biopsies and esophageal pH monitoring of patients on PPI therapy are pivotal to evaluate the role of each disease. A PPI trial is mandatory in patients with a histopathologic diagnosis of EE; in those unresponsive to PPI treatment, EE should be suggested. However, a clinical response to PPI may not rule out quiescent EE, as shown in this report.
