Systemic Activation of Defensive Enzymes and Protection in Tobacco Plantlets against <i>Phytophthora nicotianae</i>Induced by Oligosaccharins

Oligosaccharins are potent biomolecules which activate defense responses and resistance in tobacco plants. However, it is not known the systemic behavior of defensive enzymes activated by these elicitors. In this work, the dynamic behavior of key defensive enzymes was evaluated in tobacco plant leaves previously treated through the roots with chitosan polymer (CH), chitosan (COS) and pectic (OGAS) oligosaccharides and Spermine (Sp). All macromolecules tested activated protein levels and defense enzymatic activity in tobacco leaves but with different response dynamics among them and depending on the biochemical variable evaluated. Defense response above control levels were detected since 12 hours after treatments and it consisted in a biphasic behavior with two peaks for PAL (EC 4.***.1.5) and β 1 - 3 glucanase (EC 3.***.1.6) enzymatic activities. The highest enzymatic levels for these enzymes were achieved at 48 hours in plantlets elicited with COS and at 72 hours for those plants treated with chitosan polymer, while the highest POD (EC 1.***.1.6) activity was detected with CH between 48 and 72 hours. These results demonstrated systemic defense activation by oligosaccharins in tobacco whose dynamic of defense response is affected by the kind of oligosaccharins tested. When applying OGAS by foliar spray on tobacco, systemic resistance against Phytoththora nicotianae was induced and plantlets were protected with the low concentration tested by 46% under the bioassays conditions performed. Moreover, enzymatic determinations on roots and leaves previous to plant-pathogen interaction showed increments above 30% of control levels for PAL and POD activities. It means that oligosaccharins activate local and systemic defense responses in plants in the absent of pathogen infection.

Despite their potential for providing important information for paleobiogeography,studies using ostracod assemblages compiled from global datasets have been scarce so *** this study,the paleogeographic implications of the relationship between different ostracod assemblages are analyzed and discussed for the Albian and *** compiled an ostracod dataset at the genus level,with 168 genera for the Albian and 174 for the Cenomanian,to which different multivariate statistical methods of grouping were *** affinity between different ostracod assemblages from different regions allowed for the delineation of 30 operational geographic units(OGUs)for the Albian,and 32 OGUs for the Cenomanian,grouped in three paleobiogeographic units(PBUs;Megatethys,Persia,and Austral)and one sub-unit(PBSU;Maghreb associated to the Megatethys).The Maghreb PBSU showed minor changes between the Albian and *** relationship among the OGUs grouped in each PBU is related to different factors,such as eustatic sea level events,similar climatic zones,and marine current circulation patterns.A relationship was observed between the Gabon and nigeria OGUs with the Persia PBU,which suggests a direct east—west connection between them during the *** affinity observed in the Austral PBU between the South American,South African,and Australian regions during the Albian can be explained by their relative geographic isolation due to the Walvis Ridge *** eventual flooding of this barrier led to the relationship observed between the SE Brazilian and Bolivian regions with the Austral ***,the data also suggested that the separation of the Indian subcontinent from the Austral PBU took place during the Cenomanian.

Possible Uses for Silymarin in Human Health: Systematic Review

Silymarin, from the fruit of Silybum marianum, is known for its hepatoprotective action. The aim of this study was to review the mechanisms of action of the silymarin phytocomplex to expand the possibilities for its application in human health. The search for published articles was carried out on the CAPES Journals Portal platform, which covers worldwide scientific databases. Publications from 2010 to 2022 were included. Of the 311 articles retrieved, 21 were included. The articles discuss the diversity of silymarin’s applications and the possibility of optimizing its bioavailability using drug delivery systems. Silymarin shows promise in numerous diseases, such as liver, kidney, cardiovascular, respiratory and others. Its antiviral action has been demonstrated in studies and silymarin has the potential to be used as a complementary therapy in the treatment of many diseases, with the expectation that, in the future, it will be used in therapeutic protocols for exclusive use.

AIM To examine the effects of cognitive remediation therapies on brain functioning through neuroimaging procedures in patients with *** A systematic, computerised literature search was conducted in the PubM ed/Medline and PsychI nfo databases. The search was performed through February 2016 without any restrictions on language or publication date. The search was performed using the following search terms: [("cogniti*" and "remediation" or "training" or "enhancement") and("fMRI" or "MRI" or "PET" or "SPECT") and(schizophrenia or schiz*)]. The search was accompanied by a manual online search and a review of the references from each of the papers selected, and those papers fulfilling our inclusion criteria were also *** A total of 101 studies were found, but only 18 of them fulfilled the inclusion criteria. These studies indicated that cognitive remediation improves brain activation in neuroimaging studies. The most commonly reported changes were those that involved the prefrontal and thalamic regions. Those findings are in agreement with the hypofrontality hypothesis, which proposes that frontal hypoactivation is the underlying mechanism of cognitive impairments in schizophrenia. nonetheless,great heterogeneity among the studies was found. They presented different hypotheses, different results and different findings. The results of more recent studies interpreted cognitive recovery within broader frameworks, namely, as amelioration of the efficiency of different networks. Furthermore, advances in neuroimaging methodologies, such as the use of wholebrain analysis, tractography, graph analysis, and other sophisticated methodologies of data processing, might be conditioning the interpretation of results and generating new theoretical frameworks. Clinical significance of"anti-HBc alone"in human immunodeficiency virus-positive patients

AIM： TO determine the prevalence and clinical relevance of isolated antibodies to hepatitis B core antigen as the only marker of infection （“anti-HBc alone”） among human immunodeficiency virus （HIV） type-1 infected patients. Occult hepatitis B infection frequency was also evaluated. METHODS： Three hundred and forty eight histories from 2388 HIV-positive patients were randomly reviewed. Patients with serological markers of hepatitis B virus （HBV） infection were classified into three groups： past hepatitis, ＂anti-HBc alone＂ and chronic hepatitis. Determination of DnA from HBV, and RnA and genotype from hepatitis C virus （HCV） were performed on ＂anti-HBc alone＂ patients. RESULTS： One hundred and eighty seven （53.7%） HIV-positive patients had markers of HBV infection： 118 past infection （63.1%）, 14 chronic hepatitis （7.5%） and 55 ＂anti-HBc alone＂（29.4%）. Younger age [2.3-fold higher per every 10 years younger; 95% confidence intervals （Cl） 1.33-4.00] and antibodies to HCV infection [odds ratio （OR） 2.87; 95% CI 1.10-7.48] were factors independently associated with the ＂anti-HBc alone＂ pattern. no differences in liver disease frequency were detected between both groups. Serum levels of anti-HBs were not associated with HCV infection （nor viral replication or HCV genotype）, or with HIV replication or CD4 level. no ＂anti-HBc alone＂ patient tested positive for HBV DnA. COnCLUSIOn：＂Anti-HBc alone＂ prevalence in HIM- positive patients was similar to previously reported data and was associated with a younger age and with antibodies to HCV infection. The notion of ideal convergence is a generalization of statistical convecgence which has been intensively investigated in last few years. For an admissible ideal ∮ C n × n, the aim of the present paper is to introduce the concepts of ∮-convergence and ：∮＊-convergence for double sequences on probabilistic normed spaces （Pn spaces for short）. We give some relations related to these notions and find condition on the ideal ∮ for which both the notions coincide. We also define ∮-Cauchy and ：∮＊- Cauchy double sequences on Pn spaces and show that ∮-convergent double sequences are ∮-Cauchy on these spaces. We establish example which shows that our method of convergence for double sequences on Pn spaces is more general.
