Objective:This quality improvement project evaluated the impact of a point-of-care(POC)HbA1c stat lab intervention and a nurse-assisted expanded visit implemented among patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes(T2D)at a community health center in Houston,***:This was a before-and-after POC intervention among adult patients who received primary care services between 1 July 2014 and 31 December 2014(baseline visit)and who had at least one 3-month follow-up ***:Three hundred eighty-seven patients were included in the *** majority wererolled T2D(HbA1c>9%)at baseline,with the highest average levels among Hispanic(10.9%)and black(10.7%)*** was a significant difference in the HbA1c level before(mean=10.65,SD=1.9291)and after(mean=9.25,SD=1.8187)*** absolute reduction in the level of HbA1c was 1.4%(t=12.834,prom ***:There is a distinct advantage in using a stat HbA1c lab when combined with shared POC visits to assist patients with uncontrolled T2D in lowering the HbA1c,improving self-management,and reducing long-term costs.

Metal sulfides have been widely enticed as battery-type electrodes in supercapacitor devices because of their maximal theoretical ***,their lower conductivity and ion transport kinetics can largely restrict their rate performance,hence the practical usage in fields of demanding high power ***,the design of new electrodes with higher energy and power densities remains a highly challenging *** the best of our knowledge,a novel hierarchical composite of Al-CoS_(2) on nitrogendoped graphene(NG)is prepared based on a zeolite imidazole framework using a simple and scalable hydrothermal *** this hybrid,ultrathin Al-CoS_(2) nanosheet arrays are vertically orientated on the NG framework to limit self-aggregation,hence increasing the electrical property and cycle stability of *** is investigated that the Al/Co feeding ratio plays a crucial role in controlling the obtained hierarchical structure of Al-Co-S sheets and their electrode ***,Al^(3+) can influence remarkably the morphology and electrochemical property of the resultant graphene *** effective synergism is noticed between the redox Al-CoS_(2) and NG resulting in fast electron transfer and chargingdischarging ***,when the as-developed composite is utilized as a positive electrode at an applied current density of 1 A/g,a specific capacitance of 1915.8 F/g is attained with ultra-long cycle stability(96%,10,000 cycles)and an excellent retention rate(~89%).As a consequence,when a solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor(ASC)device is made by combining an Al-CoS_(2) @NG hybrid with a negative electrode made of polyaniline(PANI)derived carbon nanorods(PCNRs),it demonstrates remarkable specific capacitance(188 F/g),energy density(66.9 Wh/kg),and cyclic stability of 92%after 10,000 *** may open the pathway for the application of the next-generation supercapacitors in the future.

Although electrical stimulation is therapeutically applied for neural regeneration in patients, it remains unclear how electrical stimulation exerts its effects at the molecular level on spinal cord injury （SCI）. To identify the signaling pathway involved in electrical stimulation improving the function of injured spinal cord, 21 female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to three groups： control （no surgical intervention, n = 6）, SCI （SCI only, n = 5）, and electrical simulation （ES; SCI induction followed by ES treatment, n = 10）. A complete spinal cord transection was performed at the 10^th thoracic level. Electrical stimulation of the injured spinal cord region was applied for 4 hours per day for 7 days. On days 2 and 7 post SCI, the Touch-Test Sensory Evaluators and the Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan locomotor scale were used to evaluate rat sensory and motor function. Somatosensory-evoked potentials of the tibial nerve of a hind paw of the rat were measured to evaluate the electrophysiological function of injured spinal cord. Western blot analysis was performed to measure p38-RhoA and ERK1/2-Bcl-2 pathways related protein levels in the injured spinal cord. Rat sensory and motor functions were similar between SCI and ES groups. Com- pared with the SCI group, in the ES group, the latencies of the somatosensory-evoked potential of the tibial nerve of rats were significantly shortened, the amplitudes were significantly increased, RhoA protein level was significantly decreased, protein gene product 9.5 expression, ERK1/2, p38, and Bcl-2 protein levels in the spinal cord were significantly increased. These data suggest that ES can promote the recovery of electrophysiological function of the injured spinal cord through regulating p38-RhoA and ERK1/2-Bcl-2 pathway-related protein levels in the injured spinal cord.

Measurements of the keV-neutron capture cross sections and radiative γ-ray spectrum of 56Fe and 57Fe are performed based on a 7 Li（p,n）7 Be reaction neutron source. The incident neutron spectrum on a capture sample is measured by means of a time-of-flight （TOF） method with a 6Li-glass detector. The radiative capture 7-rays emitted from an iron CS Fe or 57 Fe） or standard gold （197Au） sample are detected by a large anti-Compton NaI（TI） spectrometer covered with a heavy shield. The capture yields of samples are obtained by applying a pulse-height weighting technique to the corresponding capture γ-ray pulse-height spectrum. The Maxwellian averaged neutron capture cross sections of 56Fe and 5T Fe are derived according to the present capture cross section results.

Bone tissue regeneration in critical-size defects is possible after implantation of a 3D scaffold and can be additionally enhanced once the scaffold is enriched with drugs or other factors supporting bone remodelling and *** alendronate(Aln),a widely used anti-osteoporosis drug,exhibits strong inhibitory effect on bone resorption performed by ***,we propose a new approach for the treatment of bone defects in craniofacial region combining biocompatible titanium dioxide scaffolds and poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide)microparticles(MPs)loaded with *** MPs were effectively attached to the surface of the scaffolds’pore walls by human recombinant *** release from the scaffolds was characterized by initial burst(2466% of the drug released within first 24 h)followed by a sustained release phase(on average 5 mg of Aln released per day from Day 3 to Day 18).In vitro tests evidenced that Aln at concentrations of 5 and 2.5 mg/ml was not cytotoxic for MG-63 osteoblast-like cells(viability between 8166% and 9863% of control),but it prevented RANKL-induced formation of osteoclast-like cells from macrophages derived from peripheral blood mononuclear cells,as shown by reduced fusion capability and decreased tartrateresistant acid phosphatase 5b activity(5665% reduction in comparison to control after 8 days of culture).Results show that it is feasible to design the scaffolds providing required doses of Aln inhibiting osteoclastogenesis,reducing osteoclast activity,but not affecting osteoblast functions,which may be beneficial in the treatment of critical-size bone tissue defects.

In this paper we establish the notion of the space of bounded ?(p(⋅), 2)variation in De la Vallée Poussin-Wiener’s sense with variable exponent. We show some properties of this space and we show that any uniformly bounded composition operator that maps this space into itself necessarily satisfies the so-called Matkowski’s conditions.

Modulatory effect of pineapple peel extract on lipid peroxidation,catalase activity and hepatic biomarker levels in blood plasma of alcoholinduced oxidative stressed rats

Objective:To investigate the ability of the methanolic extract of pineapple peel to modulate alcohol-induced lipid peroxidation,changes in catalase activities and hepatic biochemical marker levels in blood ***:Oxidative stress was induced by oral administration of ethanol(20%w/v) at a dosage of 5 niL/kg bw in *** 28 days of treatment,the rats were fasted overnight and sacrificed by cervical *** was collected with a 2 mL syringe by cardiac puncture and was centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 10 *** plasma was analyzed to evaluate malondialdehyde(MDA),catalase activity,aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT) ***:Administration of alcohol caused a drastic increase(87.74%) in MDA level compared with the *** peel extract significantly reduced the MDA level by 60.16%at 2.S mL/kg *** fed alcohol only had the highest catalase activity,treatment with pineapple peel extract at 2.5 mL/kg bw however, reduced the *** AST,ALP and ALT activities were observed in rats fed alcohol only respectively,treatment with pineapple peel extract drastically reduced their activities. Conclusions:The positive modulation of lipid peroxidation,catalase activities as well as hepatic biomarker levels of blood plasma by the methanolic extract of pineapple peels under alcoholinduced oxidative stress is an indication of its protective ability in the management of alcoholinduced toxicity.

ASTM standards for A413 aluminum alloy specimen assays were used based on standard E399-05, with a minimum requirement of three specimens. Linear elastic fracture mechanic testing was carried out in plane strain conditions and fracture toughness of the tested aluminum, critical stress intensity factor was determined. Four specimens with the selected geometry were made, since in the pre-cracking process a non-acceptable propagation of crack may be present, i.e., the crack does not propagate in a parabolic manner. In like manner, the Type SE (B) specimen, that is, a beam subject to bending under a monotonic load, was used. Stress efforts were induced in the experiment, the load mode for such experiments is mode I, determining a temporary value of the KQ apparent stress intensity factor. When such value complies with the validity criteria of E-399 Standard, it becomes the stress intensity factor KIC of material.
