Proton exchange membrane(PEM)water electrolysis represents a promising technology for green hydrogen production,but its widespread deployment is greatly hindered by the indispensable usage of platinum group metal catalysts,especially iridium(Ir)based materials for the energy-demanding oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Herein,we report a new sequential precipitation approach to the synthesis of mixed Ir-nickel(Ni)oxy-hydroxide supported on antimony-doped tin oxide(ATO)nanoparticles(IrNiyO_(x)/ATO,20 wt.%(Ir+Ni),y=0,1,2,and 3),aiming to reduce the utilisation of scarce and precious Ir while maintaining its good acidic OER *** tested in strongly acidic electrolyte(0.1 M HClO_(4)),the optimised IrNi1Ox/ATO shows a mass activity of 1.0 mAµgIr^(−1) and a large turnover frequency of 123 s^(−1) at an overpotential of 350 mV,as well as a comparatively small Tafel slope of 50 mV dec^(−1),better than the IrOx/ATO control,particularly with a markedly reduced Ir loading of only 19.7µgIr cm^(−2).Importantly,IrNi1O_(x)/ATO also exhibits substantially better catalytic stability than other reference catalysts,able to continuously catalyse acidic OER at 10 mA cm^(−2) for 15 h without obvious *** in-situ synchrotron-based x-ray absorption spectroscopy confirmed that the Ir^(3+)/Ir^(4+)species are the active sites for the acidic ***,the performance of IrNi1Ox/ATO was also preliminarily evaluated in a membrane electrode assembly,which shows better activity and stability than other reference *** IrNi1Ox/ATO reported in this work is a promising alternative to commercial IrO_(2) based catalysts for PEM electrolysis.

ADAM8 has been identified as the fibronectin-cleaving enzyme in human degenerative intervertebral disc(IVD)tissues.^(1)Increase of the active form of ADAM8 and its cleavage product,fibronectin fragment,correlated with an increased degree of IVD degeneration.1 Furthermore,fibronectin fragments have been shown to accelerate the progression of IVD degeneration.^(2)These findings suggest that ADAM8 may play a role in degenerative disc disease,a clinical problem with tremendous socioeconomic burdens in the United States.

胰腺导管腺癌(PDA)是一种具有侵袭性、死亡率高的恶性肿瘤。在肿瘤分期时,通过影像学分析,合理判定肿瘤的范围,是患者治疗措施中最重要的步骤之一。考虑到不同医生在专业知识水平和疾病严重程度的判定有所差异,以及在放射学检查时经常缺乏相关影像学表现的完整报道,有必要采用标准化的影像学报告模板以及大家一致接受和认可的胰腺实性肿瘤术语。在腹部放射协会和美国胰腺协会的共同资助下,胰腺导管腺癌(PDA)多机构专家组(包括放射学专家、胃肠病学和肝胆胰外科学专家)共同发起了一份描述标准化报告模板的共识声明。采用这种标准化的影像学报告模板将能改进PDA患者的治疗决策过程,并可通过提供一份完整、相关、精准的疾病分期报告以优化治疗方案。通过对可行手术切除的患者恰当、一致的分期,标准化报告模板有助于促进临床和科研实验设计,从而实现在不同机构之间的实验结果的比较。

BACKGROUND Percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)of diseased saphenous vein grafts(SVG)continues to pose a clinical *** PCI guidelines give a class III recommendation against performing PCI on chronically occluded ***,contemporary outcomes after SVG intervention have incrementally improved with distal protection devices,intracoronary vasodilators,drug-eluting stents,and prolonged dual antiplatelet *** To reassess the procedural and long-term outcomes of PCI for totally occluded SVG with contemporary *** This was a retrospective observational study conducted at a single university *** study population consisted of 35 consecutive patients undergoing PCI of totally occluded ***-procedure dual antiplatelet therapy was continued for a minimum of one year and aspirin was continued *** outcomes were assessed at a mean follow-up of 1221±1038 *** primary outcome was freedom from a major adverse cardiac event(MACE)defined as the occurrence of any of the following:death,myocardial infarction,stroke,repeat bypass surgery,repeat PCI,or graft *** The study group included 29 men and 6 women with a mean age of 69±12 *** was present in 14(40%)*** patients had Canadian Heart Classification class III or IV *** presentation was an acute coronary syndrome in 34(97%)*** SVG age was 12±5 *** duration of occlusion was acute(24 h to 30 d)in 26%,and late(>30 d)in 40%.PCI was initially successful in 29/35 SVG occlusions(83%).Total stent length was 52±35 *** complications of distal embolization or no-reflow occurred in 6(17%)*** longer term follow-up,MACE-free survival was only 30%at 3 years and 17%at 5 *** PCI of totally occluded SVG can be performed with a high procedural success ***,its clinical utility remains limited by poor follow-up outcomes.

Given the problems that nearly all non-japanese people have in reading japanese, its translation into English in an expanded form, accomplished with the help of Professor Kenyon-Smith, is exceedingly welcome, given that it is the first book to provide a history of sedimentology.

合作研究是高校科研的有效途径

《1 合伙和协作》1 合伙和协作大学研究对以科学为基础的工业而言是必不可少的。由于用于支持工业和商业各个部门的科学基础急剧扩展, 企业不可能去研究影响其经营活动的所有科目。通过与大学合作, 企业可以取得长足进展, 并可扩大自己的影响与规模, 以便共同参与研究。同时, 也更容易成为国际集团的一部分。然而, 要获得合作成功, 企业还必须认识到, 研究不是开发, 也需要较长的时间才能获得回报, 而且通常是间接的。当然, 对于此类研究的投资金额, 不同的项目各有不同。对于典型的高科技项目来说, 大约需要产品开发经费的1/10, 而产品开发费用又是总收入的1/10左右。研究支出的管理与评估不同于开发支出, 对开发支出的管理控制理所当然地要更加严格, 计划性要更强。有人提出大学与企业合作会失去学校的独立性, 我认为不是这样。与企业合作可获得更多的资金来源, 也能更为有效地利用现有的政府资金和捐赠资金。结果会使学校研究人员有更多的选择自由和更好的机会去寻找从事其研究所需要的支持。但企业界必须愿意通过共享知识产权和及时公布研究成果来分享研究结果。《2 大学研究的背景》2 大学研究的背景大学真正从事实用性科学研究是从19世纪开始的。以剑桥为例, 现代改革开始于女王的丈夫阿尔伯特亲王就任剑桥大学名誉校长的1847年。至少在那个时代, 他是一位不同寻常的亲王。作为一个认真的学生, 当他看到英国大学学习之不严肃和脱离实际的情况时, 感到非常震惊。他来自德国。在德国, 当时政府和企业已经参与为大学提供实验设备的活动。他为剑桥没有足够的实验室而困扰, 并尽力寻求解决这个问题的途径。他终于说服德文郡公爵出资建立凯文迪希实验室。从现在的水准看, 那些新实验室是简陋的, 而且费用也相对较低。但当时科学家们不这样认为。人们认为建立凯文迪希实验室的资金比现在筹集几千万美元建立一个设备齐全的生物技术实验室或者活动网络研究中心更有意义。但建立研究基本设施所需要的资金绝对数额不是很大, 不如今天建立一个带通风柜的化学实验室或者生物医学研究用的动物实验室成本高, 更不用说建立信息技术装备齐全的超净室了。1897年j.j.汤姆森进行实验时发现了电子, 所用的是比较简单而且并不贵重的设备, 即真空泵, 里面插有电极的玻璃瓶 (做这个玻璃瓶可能花了玻璃匠一周左右的时间) , 一个蓄电池和一些电流计。19世纪90年代, 在剑桥, 上述想法首先被一些新建的公司采纳。那时正是法尔文家族创办Conbrige (剑桥) 仪器公司的时候。20世纪60年代, 该公司开发了第一个商业扫描电子显微镜, 它成为20世纪后半叶应用最广泛的仪器。它是由大学工程系开发的, 公司给学校一笔可观的资金支持进一步研究。虽然扫描电子显微镜是一个复杂的仪器, 但还是有可能在设备很好的工程系生产出来。50年代后期和60年代, 世界一流大学的物理学家正在制造同样或者更为复杂的加速器。但是, 此后不久, 搞一个特别是用于粒子物理研究的仪器, 对于一个研究部门来说太复杂也太昂贵了。那么, 政府参与国家级的合作项目就非常有必要了。今天, 国家之间必须合作研制超级对撞机, 必须进行国际间的合作。这一美国微粒子物理学家的梦想只依靠美国的力量是不能实现的。事实已证实了这一点。就其项目的规模而言, 粒子物理虽是一个突出的例子, 但是科学的大多数领域确实是越来越复杂。在很多领域里, 合作对于科学家们来说是不可缺少的。机构内部的合作是理所应当的, 机构之间的合作通常也是很重要的。许多最重要的先进科学技术在工业实验室形成, 是因为商业部门控制的巨大资源使他们能吸引最好的科学家, 并为其配备最现代化的设备。电机工程、通讯和电子领域尤其如此, 化学工业以及航空等机械工业工程主要应用方面亦是如此。后来, 随着计算机和信息技术的出现, 企业科学家的作用变得很重要, 这一趋势今天又延伸到生物技术和制药领域。同时, 当曾经只是学术性研究的研究中心开始在工业领域中出现时, 学术自由的性质也随之发生了变化。个人遵循完全独立道路的能力也受到侵蚀。当然, 学习别人的先进知识是必要的。但并非要按照别人的意见完成自己的工作。对于合作研究来说, 这一点是非常必要的。这并不是说从创造的角度来看, 合作令人不满意, 而是可以理解为它导致了独立性的丧失。这些思想仍然来自个人, 但它是从与别人合作中所获得的更宽的视野, 几乎没有例外。如果一个人坚持单独从事研究, 他能够解决的问题就很少, 而且这些问题的重要程度也是比较低的。再说, 目前很多激动人心的发现都是出现在科学的交叉点上。化学、物理、生物、数学等19世纪的传统学科和领域的界线在应用研究领域中越来越不适合。举例说, 要建立未来通讯系统, 就必须通过计算机学家、电子工程
