Gnetophytes,comprising genera Ephedra,Gnetum and Welwitschia are an understudied,enigmatic lineage of *** we examined the organization of ribosomal DNA（rDNA） across representative *** applied high throughput sequencing approaches to isolate and reconstruct rDNA units and to determine their intragenomic *** addition,fluorescent in situ hybridization（FISH） and Southern blot hybridization techniques were used to reveal the chromosome and genomic organization of *** found that:（i） the 5 S and 35 S rDNAs were separate in ***,*** and *** and linked in ***;（ii） there was huge variability variability in 5 S rDNA abundance（4,000-100,000 copies per haploid genome） and locus numbers（2-16 sites per diploid genome）;（iii） 5 S rRNA pseudogenes were interspersed between functional genes forming single unit in *** and ***;（iv） in *** internal transcribed spacers（ITS1） of 35 S rDNA were long and intrinsically repetitive while in *** and *** the ITS1 were short without *** conclusion,gnetophytes are distinctive from other gymnosperms and angiosperms as they display a surprisingly high variability in rDNA organization,rDNA copy and locus numbers between genera,with no relationship between copy numbers and genome sizes *** evolution of 5 S rDNA units seems to have led to the amplification of 5 S pseudogenes in both *** and *** patterns of rDNA show both gymnosperm and angiosperm features underlining diversity and distinctness of the group.

A Comparative Study on the Role of Cytokinins in Caryopsis Development in the Maize miniature1 Seed Mutant and Its Wild Type

We report here on a comparative developmental profile of plant hormone cytokinins in relation to cell size, cell number and endoreduplicaUon in developing maize caryopsis of a cell wall invertase-deficient miniature1 （mn1） seed mutant and its wild type, Mn1, genotype. Both genotypes showed extremely high levels of total cytokinins during the very early stages of development, followed by a marked and genotype specific reduction. While the decrease of cytokinins in Mn1 was associated with their deactivation by 9-glucosylation, the absolute and the relative part of active cytokinin forms was higher in the mutant. During the exponential growth phase of endosperm between 6 d after pollination and 9 d after pollination, the mean cell doubling time, the absolute growth rate and the level of endoreduplication were similar in the two genotypes. However, the entire duration of growth was longer in Mnl compared with mnl, resulting in a significantly higher cell number in the Mnl endosperm. These data correlate with the previously reported peak levels of the Mn1-encoded cell wall invertase-2 （INCW2） at 12 d after pollination in the Mn1 endosperm. A model showing possible crosstalk among cytokinins, cell cycle and cell wall invertase as causal to increased cell number and sink strength of the Mn1 developing endosperm is discussed.

Differences in nano-topography and tribochemistry of ZDDP tribofilms from variations in contact configuration with steel and DLC surfaces

In this work,we evaluated the effect of the counter-body material(the same or dissimilar)and contact configuration(moving or stationary body),at similar contact tribological conditions,on the tribochemical and nanotopography characteristics of adsorbed surface *** dialkyldithiophosphate(ZDDP),the best performing anti-wear additive,was used in self-mated steel/steel and DLC/DLC contacts,which were compared with mixed steel/DLC and DLC/steel contacts in 1-h and 6-h sliding *** macroscale(tribometer)and nanoscale(atomic force microscopy)friction,thickness,topography,and chemical(attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy)properties of the tribofilms were *** results revealed unexpectedly large differences in all the studied tribofilm parameters;this is because all the tribofilms are completely different;this includes the chemical composition,which is known to have a crucial effect on the nano-and macro-scale tribological *** results clearly demonstrate that the surface material,additives,and common contact operating parameters,that is,pressure,velocity,and temperature,crucially affect the ZDDP tribofilm as well as the position of the moving or stationary surface within the contact,and the material of the moving/stationary bodies.

In-hole velocity of detonation(VOD) measurements as a framework for the selection type of explosive

Velocity of detonation （VOD） is one of the most important properties of explosives and indicates perfor- mances of explosives in real time. With the development of blast monitoring systems, continuous VOD monitoring systems are recently available. The VOD measurement in holes helps in comparing and eval- uating relative performances of explosives. The purpose of this paper is a framework for selecting the type of explosives. This paper analyses the results of VOD measurements, carried out at the limestone quarry （Zrnotiti （~~rni kal）, Slovenia. Experiments were conducted to measure VOD in blast holes which were loaded with ANFO, heavy ANFO and emulsion explosives. The explosives are produced at the point of use with mobile equipment. In this study, resistance wire continuous VOD measurement system MicroTrap, VODSYS-4 from MREL was used and framework for selection the type of explosives has been suggested.

Computational Analysis of Position-dependent Disorder Content in DisProt Database

A bioinformatics analysis of disorder content of proteins from the DisProt database has been performed with respect to position of dis- ordered residues. Each protein chain was divided into three parts： N- and C- terminal parts with each containing 30 amino acid （AA） residues and the middle region containing the remaining AA residues. The results show that in terminal parts, the percentage of disor- dered AA residues is higher than that of all AA residues （17% of disordered AA residues and 11% of all）. We analyzed the percentage of disorder for each of 20 AA residues in the three parts of proteins with respect to their hydropathy and molecular weight. For each AA, the percentage of disorder in the middle part is lower than that in terminal parts which is comparable at the two termini. A new scale of AAs has been introduced according to their disorder content in the middle part of proteins： CIFWMLYHRNVTAGQDSkEP. All big hydrophobic AAs are less frequently disordered, while almost all small hydrophilic AAs are more frequently disordered. The results obtained may be useful for construction and improving predictors for protein disorder.

Genetic differentiation in functional traits among wild cherry (Prunus avium L.) half-sib lines

Understanding intra-specific variation in leaf functional traits is one of the key requirements for the evaluation of species adaptive capacity to ongoing climate change, as well as for designing long-term breeding and conservation strategies. Hence, data of 19 functional traits describing plant physiology, antioxidant properties, anatomy and morphology were determined on 1-year-old seedlings of wild cherry (Prunus avium L.) half-sib lines. The variability within and among half-sib lines, as well as the estimation of multi-trait association, were examined using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey's honestly significant difference test and multivariate analyses: principal component analysis (PCA), canonical discriminant analysis (CDA) and stepwise discriminant analysis (SDA). Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used to evaluate linear correlation between the study parameters. The results of the ANOVA showed the presence of statistically significant differences (P kewise, the results of SDA indicate that transpiration and stomatal conductance contributed to the largest extent, to the discrimination of the wild cherry half-sib lines. In addition, PCA and CDA showed separation of the wild cherry half-sib lines along the first principal component and first canonical variable with regards to humidity of their original sites. Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is the most common type of dementia,but it is very difficult to diagnose with certainty,so many AD studies have attempted to find early and relevant diagnostic *** upon activation,normal T cell expressed and secreted(RANTES,also known as C-C chemokine ligand)is a chemokine involved in the migration of T cells and other lymphoid *** in RANTES levels and its expression in blood or in cerebrospinal fluid have been reported in some neurodegenerative diseases,such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis,but also in metabolic diseases in which inflammation plays a *** aim of this observational study was to assess RANTES levels in peripheral blood as clinical indicators of *** levels of RANTES were investigated in 85 AD patients in a relatively early phase of AD(median 8.5 months after diagnosis;39 men and 46 women;average age 75.7 years),and in 78 control subjects(24 men and 54 women;average age 66 years).We found much higher plasma levels of RANTES in AD patients compared to controls.A negative correlation of RANTES levels with age,disease duration,Fazekas scale score,and the medial temporal lobe atrophy(MTA)score(Scheltens’s scale)was found in AD patients,i.e.,the higher levels corresponded to earlier stages of the *** RANTES levels were not correlated with cognitive *** AD patients,RANTES levels were positively correlated with the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α,which is consistent with the wellknown fact that AD is associated with inflammatory *** levels were also positively correlated with insulin levels in AD patients,with insulin resistance(HOMA-R)and pancreatic beta cell function(HOMA-F).This study evaluated several clinical and metabolic factors that may affect plasma levels of RANTES,but these factors could not explain the increases in RANTES levels observed in AD *** levels of RANTES appear to be an interesting

Potential neurophysiological and biomechanical risk factors for sport-related back problems:A scoping review

This scoping review aims(1)to map the literature dealing with neurophysiological and biomechanical aspects of back problems in athletes in order to identify valid risk-factors for their prevention,plus(2)to identify gaps in the existing research and propose suggestions for future studies.A literature search conducted with Scopus,Web of Science,MEDLINE and Cochrane Library was completed by Elsevier,SpringerLink and Google *** main neurophysiological risk factors identified leading to back problems in athletes are neuromuscular imbalance,increased muscle fatigability,muscle dysfunction and impaired motor control,whilst biomechanical risk factors include maladaptive spinal,spinopelvic and lower limb kinematics,side-to-side imbalances in axial strength and hip rotation range of motion,spinal overloading and deficits in movement ***,most studies focused on back pain in the lumbar region,whereas less attention has been paid to thoracic and cervical spine *** range of sports where this topic has been studied is relatively *** is a lack of research in sports in which the core muscles are highly involved in specific movements such as lifting weights or trunk rotations.A limited number of studies include female athletes and master athletes of both *** addition to chronic back pain patients,it is equally important to conduct research on healthy athletes with a predisposition to spine *** should focus their empirical work on identifying modifiable risk factors,predict which athletes are at risk for back problems,and develop personalized sport-specific assessment tools and targeted prevention strategies for them.

Reevaluation of dialect boundaries in the Yellowhammer(Emberiza citrinella)based on citizen science data:Should we split or lump?
