Male accessory gland inflammation or infection （MAGI） is a potentially underdiagnosed complication of type 2 diabetes （DM2）; specifically, we reported in a recent study that the frequency of MAGI was 43% among DM2 patients. In previous studies, we have demonstrated that diabetic autonomic neuropathy （DAN） is associated with a peculiar ultrasound characterization of the seminal vesicles （SVs） in DM2 patients. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the frequency of MAGI in two different categories of DM2 patients （i.e. patients with and without symptoms that possibly reflect DAN） and the respective ultrasound characterizations. Sixty DM2 patients with a mean （± s.e.m.） age of 42.0 ± 6.0 years （range： 34-47 years） were classified according to the presence or the absence of symptoms that could possibly reflect DAN （group A： DM2 with symptoms possibly reflecting DAN, n = 28 patients and group B： DM2 without symptoms possibly reflecting DAN, n = 32 patients）. The patients in Group A exhibited a significantly higher frequency of MAGI compared with those in group B patients （P 〈 0.05）; moreover, the Group A patients exhibited a significantly higher frequency of ultrasound signs suggestive of vesiculitis （P 〈 0.05）. Finally, the concentrations of lymphocytes but not the concentrations of the leukocytes in the semen were significantly higher （P 〈 0.05） in group A compared with group B.

Late-onset hypogonadism is defined as a combination of low testosterone （T） levels and typical symptoms and signs. A major area of uncertainty is whether T concentrations are always really sufficient to fully reflect Leydig cell （dys）function. Mild testicular alteration could be diagnosed only by additional biochemical markers, such as luteinizing hormone （LH） and 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels. These markers help in identifying the so-called ＂subclinical＂ hypogonadism （normal T, high LH levels）. Patients with hypogonadism have frequently low levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D due to impairment of the hydroxylating enzyme CYP2r1 in the testis. However, no data have been published dealing with the best treatment option （cholecalciferol - the Vitamin D precursor, or calcidiol - 25-hydroxylated form of Vitamin D） in these patients. We studied 66 patients with classic hypogonadism （total T [TT] 〈12 nmol I-~, LH 〉 8 IU 1-1）（n = 26） and subclinical hypogonadism （TT 〉 12 nmol I-＊, LH 〉 8 IU I-~）（n = 40） and low 25-hydroxyvitamin D （〈50 nmol I-1）. Subjects received cholecalciferol （5000 IU per week）（n = 20） or calcidiol （4000 IU per week）（n -- 46）, and 25-hydroxyvitamin D and parathyroid hormone （PTH） were evaluated after 3 months of therapy. Supplementation with calcidiol significantly increased 25-hydroxyvitamin D and significantly decreased PI＂H levels in both groups of men with hypogonadism （primary, n = 16 and subclinical, n = 30）, whereas supplementation with cholecalciferol did not modify their levels. This study shows for the first time that the administration of the 25-hydroxylated form of Vitamin D （calcidiol）, and not the administration of the precursor cholecalciferol, restores 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in subjects with hypogonadism.

The number-of-constituent-quark(NCQ)scaling behavior of the elliptic flow of identified particles produced in A+A collisions is studied quantitatively using an empirical function that fits the experimental v_(2) data available from the rHIC and *** most common approach for NCQ scaling involves(1)doing a scaling of the experimental v_(2) data of an identified particle with its NCQ,(2)doing the same to its transverse momentum or energy,then(3)combining all the scaled data and identifying the NCQ behavior by intuitively looking(since the measured experimental data are discrete).We define two variables(d_(1),d_(2))to describe NCQ scaling quantitatively and simultaneously,and identify the approximate region where the NCQ scaling *** approach could be applied to study NCQ or other scaling phenomena in future experiments.
