Simulating Microbial Functional Diversity Dynamics in Agricultural Soils: An Individual Based Modeling Approach

New agricultural soil model approaches based on the microbiome dynamics must be considered as they can contribute to understand microbiological soil processes directly linked to substrate metabolism and the influence of these processes on plant growth. The present work presents an approach to the modelling of the interactions of the soil microbial functional diversity with the plant in terms of functions associated to specific processes of organic Carbon and Nitrogen metabolism. The substrates transformations arising in the organic matter that enters as a part of an agricultural scheme are the base for define this metabolism. As result, it has been possible to simulate a rhizospheric soil based on the concept of complex system dynamics and Individual Based Modeling known too as Agent-Based Modeling in an agricultural management context. The explicit definition of the microbiome functional diversity and the processing of the structural elements Carbon and Nitrogen, allowed representing the functional dynamics of this complex system composed by microorganisms, Carbon, Nitrogen and the plant. The variables that reflect the biology and the adaptation to the rhizospheric environment characterized the microorganisms and the assemblage community patterns in time. The main simulations output are system glucose and nitrate levels and an approach to plant growth, all resultant from the metabolic process of the considered Carbon and Nitrogen consortia. The results indicate that the microorganism’s diversity assemblages and its functional expression have a fundamental role in terms of plant growth.

DET1-mediated COP1 regulation avoids HY5 activity over second-site gene targets to tune plant photomorphogenesis

Final Results of a Phase II Study of Bevacizumab, Cisplatin and Pemetrexed as First-Line Therapy for Patients with Advanced Non-Squamous Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Background: Efficacy and safety data for cisplatin and pemetrexed plus bevacizumabinnon squamousnon non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are still limited. Nevertheless, either bevacizumab plus platinum doublet or pemetrexed plus platinum is approved options for first line therapy. Predictive factors for bevacizumab are needed. KRAS is one of the most common oncogenic drivers in lung cancer. Its prognostic and predictive value in NSCLC is under investigation. Patients and methods: This trial evaluates the addition of bevacizumab 7.5 mg/kg to cisplatin 75 mg/m2 plus pemetrexed 500 mg/m2 as first line treatment in stage IV non-squamous NSCLC patients. Maintenance bevacizumab was received as monotherapy until progressive disease, unacceptable toxicityor consent with drawal. The primary objective was progression free survival (PFS). Secondary objectives included overall survival (OS), safety, global objective responses and the determination of KRAS mutation at baseline. Results: From March 2009 to March 2012, 31 patients were enrolled. Mean age was 59.19 (standard deviation (SD) 8.53). From all the patients included in this trial, 67.70% were men. KRAS was wild type in 19 patients (58.06%);in 7 (22.58%) was mutated and was unknown in 6 patients (19.35%). Median PFS for KRAS mutated patients was 4 months, whereas for the KRAS wild type it was 7.9 months (P = 0.0031). Median OS was 4 months for the KRAS population, and 16.1 months for the KRAS wild type (P = 0.0032). Twenty four patients (77.42%) experienced at least a grade 3 - 4 adverse event. The most common grade 3 - 4 toxicity was asthenia. Conclusions: Both PFS and OS were statistically longer for the KRAS wild type patients compared with the KRAS mutated population (P = 0.0031). Median OS was shorter than the reported in previous trials with bevacizumab. Nevertheless, focussing on the OS for KRAS wild type patients, this achieves a result or 16.1 months. Maternal Behavior Their Adjustments and Implicated Factors

The maternal behavior in mammals is one of the most stable and highly conserved motivated species-specific behaviors and crucial for reproductive functions. During maternal behavior nursing and feeding are associated factors with survival of mammalian offspring, mammals nurse their newborn in a wide diversity in the behavioral. In the mother relationship the suckling is the behavioral patterns that identified and unified mammals and showed several selected evolutionary conserved behavior. The milk is an important reward for the pups, it ensure the surviving. The quality of maternal behavior is transmitted between generations;the inadequate maternal care has harmful effects in the adulthood individual. The specific maternal pattern modalities differ greatly between species;the human bonding has underlying biological mechanisms similar in mammals. Maternal brain is modified in order to prepare the mother-pup relationship, being crucial for the adequate behavioral display in the mother-pup relationship. A bulk of surrounding factor such as sensorial stimulus, temperature, ultrasonic communication, and reinforcing stimulus determines the quality of the nursing and care of the progeny. Mother care and nursing quality have long lasting effects in adulthood, determining cognitive and behavioral development and some specific psychiatric and psychological condition in human populations.

The purpose of this review is to present evidence that the lumen of the coronary vascular endothelium is an important site of hormonal action. This review is based on work performed for the last eight years in our laboratories. To demonstrate that selective and exclusive activation or blockade of coronary luminal hormonal receptors is feasible, we have covalently bound to microbeads or large size dextrans (2000 kDa) several hormones or their receptor blockers. These large molecular complexes when administered intravascularly because of their size, remain confined to the blood vessel lumen. The cardiac effects of these large size complexes are identical to those induced by their small size counterparts. The hormones we have used are; adenosine, acetylcholine, bradykinin, substance P, testosterone, and vasopressin. Furthermore, we have also determined the endothelial mediators responsible for the cardiac effects of these hormones. These findings demonstrate that intravascular hormone receptors are indeed

Puppyhood is a very active social and vocal period in a harbor seal's life Ph oca vitulina. An important feature of vocalizations is their temporal and rhythmic structure, and understanding vocal timing and rhythms in harbor seals is critical to a cross-species hypothesis in evolutionary neuroscience that links vocal learning, rhythm perception, and synchronization. This study utilized analytical techniques that may best capture rhythmic structure in pup vocalizations with the goal of examining whether (1) harbor seal pups show rhythmic structure in their calls and (2) rhythms evolve over time. Calls of 3 wild-born seal pups were recorded daily over the course of 1-3 weeks;3 temporal features were analyzed using 3 complementary techniques. We identified temporal and rhythmic structure in pup calls across different time windows. The calls of harbor seal pups exhibit some degree of temporal and rhythmic organization, which evolves over puppyhood and resembles that of other species' in teractive comm un icati on. We suggest n ext steps for investigating call structure in harbor seal pups and propose comparative hypotheses to test in other pinniped species.

Study and Characterization of Organically Modified Silica-Zirconia Anti-Graffiti Coatings Obtained by Sol-Gel

In this work, it is presented the synthesis and characterization of transparent and colorless organic-inorganic hybrid anti-graffiti protective materials obtained by sol-gel method. This type of materials is based on MTES （methyltriethoxysilane）, TPOZ （tetrapropoxide of zirconium） and PDMS （polydimethylsiloxane）. The synthesis has been carried out at 25, 35 and 45 ℃ in order to evaluate the role of temperature in the structure, microstructure and anti-graffiti behavior as well. The incorporation of zirconium within the organic modified silica network, of sols after being gelled and dried, is evident by a shoulder which increased with temperature situated at 950 cml （Si-O-Zr bonds）, and it is homogenously dispersed inside the matrix avoiding the formation of large ZrO2 precipitates. As the temperature increases, the hydrolysis and condensation reactions occur in more extension and thus, the obtained sols are more cross-linked and present more Si-O-Zr linkages. The promising anti-graffiti beha＇4ior of the protectNe hybrids was qualitatively determined being the spot removal higher than 90%.

Modern and paleoclimate changes may have altered species dynamics by shifting species’niche suitability over space and *** analyze whether the current genetic structure and isolation of the two large American felids,jaguar(Panthera onca)and puma(Puma concolor),are mediated by changes in climatic suitability and connection routes over modern and paleoclimatic *** estimate species distribution under 5 climatic landscapes(modern,Holocene,last maximum glaciations[LMG],average suitability,and climatic instability)and correlate them with individuals’genetic isolation through causal modeling on a resemblance *** species exhibit genetic isolation patterns correlated with LMG climatic suitability,suggesting that these areas may have worked as“allele refuges.”However,the jaguar showed higher vulnerability to climate changes,responding to modern climatic suitability and connection routes,whereas the puma showed a continuous and gradual transition of genetic *** differential responsiveness to climate change,both species are subjected to the climatic effects on genetic configuration,which may make them susceptible to future climatic changes,since these are progressing faster and with higher intensity than changes in the ***,the effects of climatic changes should be considered in the design of conservation strategies to ensure evolutionary and demographic processes mediated by gene flow for both species.
