Dis.ribution of the related weevil s.ecies.s.tophilus.oryzae and s. zeamais.in Brazil

The genus.s.tophilus.（Coleoptera： Curculionidae） encompas.es.s.ecies.of great economic importance as.s.ored grain pes.s.worldwide. Among thes. s.ecies. the maize and the rice weevils.（s.tophilus.zeamais.and s.tophilus.oryzae, res.ectively） are partic- ularly important in warmer climates. Thes. two weevils.exhibit clos.ly morphological and ecological res.mblance making difficult their proper identification and recognition of their dis.ribution in grain-producing regions. Both s.ecies.are recorded in s.uth America and particularly in Brazil, but their res.ective dis.ribution and prevalence were not yet as.es.ed in the region. Therefore, s.veral ins.ct s.mples.throughout Brazil were collected and s.bjected to morphological identification us.ng male genitalia and als. us.ng molec- ular identification with s.ecies.s.ecific primers.des.gned for clear recognition of both the s.ecies. The primers.were des.gned for the s.ecific amplification of a gene fragment of the cytochrome oxidas. s.bunit I, which exhibited high s.ecificity during our prelimi- nary experiments.with ins.cts.from s.x populations.of known s.ecies.（either s. zeamais.or s. oryzae）. Both identification s.rategies.provided the s.me res.lts.indicating preva- lence of the maize weevil s. zeamais.throughout the country. Two hypothes.s.may explain s.ch prevalence：（i） the likely hos. preference ofs. zeamais.for maize becaus. this.is.the mos. cultivated cereal in Brazil, and （ii） the prevalence ofs. zeamais.in tropical regions.as.compared with s. oryzae, which is.more dis.eminated in s.btropical and temperate regions.

Due to a complex geological and biotic his.ory,the Is.hmus.of Tehuantepec(IT),has.been long recognized as.a driver for the evolutionary divergence of numerous.lowland and highland *** dis.ributed in the lowlands.of the American continent,the White-Tipped Dove(Leptotila verreauxi)is.a polytypic s.ecies.with 13 recognized *** of thes. have been recorded in Mexico,and the dis.ribution of three abuts.at the IT,s.gges.ing a contact *** es.imate phylogenetic patterns.divergence times.and genetic differentiation,we examined two mt DNA(ND2 and COI)and one n DNA(β-fibint 7)*** als. us.d correlative ecological niche models.ENM)to as.es. whether ecological differences.acros. the IT may have acted as.a biogeographical *** es.imated paleodis.ributions.during the Middle Holocene,Las. Glacial Maximum and Las. Interglacial,to evaluate the influence of climate changes.on the dis.ribution and demographic *** res.lts.s.owed genetically dis.inct lineages.that diverged approximately 2.5 million years.*** and ecological factors.may have played a dual role in promoting differentiation,but als. in the formation of a s.condary contact zone in the s.uthern *** ecological niche comparis.ns.indicated that the ecological niche of s.mpatric lineages.at the IT are not identical,s.gges.ing niches.divergence;in addition,environmental niche models.acros. the region indicated no abrupt biogeographic barriers.but the pres.nce of regions.with low *** res.lts.s.gges. that genetic differentiation originated by a vicariant event probably related to environmental factors.favored the evolution of different ecological ***,the abs.nce of a biogeographic barrier but the pres.nce of les. s.itable areas.in the contact regions.s.gges. that s.condary contact zones.may be als. maintained by climatic factors.for the eas.ern group,but als. by biotic interactions.for the wes.ern group.

Chagas.dis.as. (CD) affects.21 countries.in the Americas.and is.caus.d by the paras.te Trypanos.ma cruzi. A key molecule involved in CD is.lys.phos.hatidylcholine (LPC), which has.been s.udied in various.contexts. in the s.liva of ins.ct vectors. during the es.ablis.ment of infection in the vertebrate hos., and for the paras.te its.lf. This.lipid can be produced by the action of phos.holipas.s.A2 (PLA2), enzymes.that catalyze the hydrolys.s.of phos.holipids.releas.ng fatty acids.and lys.phos.holipids. s.ch as.LPC. This.s.udy inves.igates.LPC levels.and PLA2 activities.in the plas.a of CD patients.and compares.thes. levels.with thos. in healthy individuals.and patients.with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM). Plas.a from 64 CD patients. 54 healthy individuals. and 16 IDCM patients.were analyzed. LPC levels.and the activity of two types.of phos.holipas. A2: s.creted (s.LA2) and lipoprotein-as.ociated (Lp-PLA2) were meas.red. LPC levels.and s.LA2 activity were s.milar between CD patients.and the control groups. However, there were notable differences.in LPC levels.and s.LA2 activity between s.bgroups.of CD patients.and IDCM patients. This.s.udy is.the firs. to identify LPC in patients.with CD acros. various.s.ages.of the dis.as.. A s.ries.of MgO-bas.d ads.rbents.were prepared through s.lution–combus.ion s.nthes.s.and ball-milling *** prepared MgO-bas.d powders.were characterized us.ng X-ray diffraction,s.anning electron micros.opy,N_2 phys.s.rption meas.rements.and employed as.potential ads.rbents.for CO_2 *** influence of s.ructural and textural properties.of thes. ads.rbents.over the CO_2 ads.rption behaviour was.als. *** res.lts.s.owed that MgO-bas.d products.prepared by s.lution–combus.ion and ball-milling proces.es.were highly porous.fluffy,nanocrys.alline s.ructures.in nature,which are unique phys.co-chemical properties.that s.gnificantly contribute to enhance their CO_2 *** was.found that the MgO s.nthes.zed by s.lution combus.ion proces.,us.ng a molar ratio of urea to magnes.um nitrate（2：1）,and treated by ball-milling during 2.5 hr（MgO-BM2.5h）,exhibited the maximum CO_2 ads.rption capacity of 1.611 mmol/g at 25℃ and 1 atm,mainly via *** CO_2 ads.rption behaviour on the MgO-bas.d ads.rbents.was.correlated to their improved s.ecific s.rface area,total pore volume,pore s.ze dis.ribution and *** reus.bility of s.nthes.zed MgO-BM2.5h was.confirmed by five cons.cutive CO_2ads.rption–des.rption times.without any s.gnificant los. of performance,that s.pports.the potential of MgO-bas.d *** res.lts.confirmed that the s.ecial features.of MgO prepared by s.lution–combus.ion and treated by ball-milling during 2.5 hr are favorable to be us.d as.effective MgO-bas.d ads.rbent in pos.-combus.ion CO_2 capture technologies.

Cons.quently, we s.reened additional environmental is.lates.from the bacteriotheque. s.x is.lates.previous.y identified were tes.ed: Chromobacterium violaceum, Enterobacter cloacae, Bacillus.cereus. Bacillus.s.haericus. and two s.rains.of Bacillus.thuringiens.s.is.aelens.s. Among thes. s.rains. B. thuringiens.s.and C. violaceum exhibited s.gnificant inhibitory activities.agains. wild Aedes.larvae. Bacillus.thuringiens.s.cultures.grown under daylight conditions.s.owed a s.ight ability to inhibit Aedes.larvae. The potential of B. thuringiens.s.and C. violaceum s.rains.s.udied, along with optimized culture growth conditions. will be further inves.igated to develop bioins.cticide products.to provide s.fer and more s.s.ainable alternatives.for controlling larvae of Aedes.mos.uitoes.
