The diversity and distribution of Pronoctiluca, a marine dinoflagellate of enigmatic systematic position, was studied in the vicinity of the Kuroshio and Oyashio Currents, the Philippines, Celebes, Sulu and South China Seas, western and central equatorial and southeast Pacific Ocean. The abundance of Pronoctiluca was high- er, with a wide vertical distribution, in eutrophic temperate regions, whereas it was nearly absent in surface waters of oligotrophic tropical regions. Most of the specimens corresponded to P. spinifera. Pronoctiluca pelagica, covered by hyaline layers and with no flagella, is considered as an encysted form. The bipartition was only observed in P. acuta-P, spinifera forms, that together with the occurrence of intermediate forms between P. spinifera and P. pelagica suggest that they may correspond to developmental stages of a single species. Pronoctiluca is essential to understanding the evolutionary history of the alveolates.

Composition and Physico-Chemical Properties of Meat from Capons Fed Cereals

Chemical composition, physico-chemical properties and fatty acid composition of breast and drumstick meat from capons （castrated male cockerels） fed cereals were studied. Three groups of capons were reared. One group was fed ad libitum the same commercial diet until the 4th mon of life. The last month of its life, the capons of this group were fed corn. The second and third group of capons were fed the same diet from caponization. The second group was fed mixture of corn （50%） and wheat （50%）. The third group of capons was fed 2/3 corn and 1/3 mixture of corn （50%） and barley （50%）. Capons were reared under free-range conditions and slaughtered at 150 d of age. Caponization was performed at 48 d. No signiifcant effects of feeding in chemical composition, pH, water holding capacity, drip and cooking losses and texture of the meat were observed. The meat of the third group （capons fed 83%corn） was more yellow and showed higher content of C18：2 than that of the other capons.

Southeastern Eurasia is a global window to the Cretaceous paleoclimate and lithosphere *** contains one of the most complete and complex sedimentary records of Mesozoic desert basins on planet *** this study,we perform the spatio-temporal tracking of 96 Cretaceous palaeoclimate indicators during 79 Myr which reveal that the plateau paleoclimate archives from East Asia resulted from an Early to Mid-Cretaceous ocean–atmosphere coupling and a shift to a preponderant role of Late Cretaceous lithosphere dynamics and tectonic forcing on high-altitude depositional systems linked to the subduction margins of the Tethys and Paleo-Pacific realms beneath the Eurasian *** crustal response to tectonic processes linked with the spatio-temporal evolution of the Tethyan and Paleo-Pacific margins defined the configuration of major sedimentary basins on this *** significant increase and decrease in the number of active sedimentary basins that occur during the Cretaceous,from 16 in the Early Cretaceous,to 28 in the Mid-Cretaceous,and a decreasing to 20 sedimentary basins in the Late Cretaceous,is a direct response of lithospheric dynamics associated with the two main subduction zones(Tethys and Pacific domains).A shift in subduction style from an Early Cretaceous Paleo-Pacific Plate slab roll back to a Late Cretaceous flat-slab mode might have triggered regional plateau uplift,blocked intraplate volcanism,thus enhancing the denudation and sediment availability,and created wind corridors that led to the construction and accumulation of extensive Late Cretaceous aeolian sandy deserts(ergs)that covered Mid-Cretaceous plateau *** the same time,plateau uplift associated with crustal thickening following terrane assembly in the Tethyan margin triggered altitudinal cryospheric processes in sandy desert *** of an active Cretaceous cryosphere in China include ValanginianHauterivian glacial debris flows,Early Aptian geochemical signature of melt w

We reach a thermodynamic interpretation of the CODET model and its accurate electron density and temperature prediction, grounded on the physics of hydro magnetism in global equilibrium. The thermodynamic interpretation finds consistency with the model of a magneto-matter medium possessing a 3-D Langmuir structure. That medium is diamagnetic in the context of ideal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD). It is shown that this magneto-matter has unusual characteristics consistent with assuming that the low quiescent solar corona possesses a nature-state, non yet studied. It is further noticed that this is wholly consistent with the CODET model prediction of a polytropic anomalous index for the electron gas of the Sun’s corona. Constitutive properties are derived from this novel state of nature, like magnetic permeability properties and non-dispersive acoustic speed. This non-dispersive acoustic speed is also expected to predict the observed equilibration time for the 1.1 to 1.3R⊙ quiescent corona during the solar minimum from 2008 to 2009.

META-R(multi-environment trial analysis in R)is a suite of R scripts linked by a graphical user interface(gUI)designed in Java *** objective of META-R is to accurately analyze multi-environment plant breeding trials(METs)by fitting mixed and fixed linear models from experimental designs such as the randomized complete block design(RCBD)and the alpha-lattice/lattice ***-R simultaneously estimates the best linear and unbiased estimators(BLUEs)and the best linear and unbiased predictors(BLUPs).Additionally,it computes the variance-covariance parameters,as well as some statistical and genetic parameters such as the least significant difference(LSD)at 5%significance,the coefficient of variation in percentage(CV),the genetic variance,and the broad-sense *** parameters are very important in the selection of top performing genotypes in plant ***-R also computes the phenotypic and genetic correlations among environments and between traits,as well as their statistical *** genetic correlations between environments or traits can be visualized in a biplot graph or a tree diagram(dendrogram).genetic correlations are very important for identifying environments with similar behavior or making indirect selection and identifying the most highly associated ***-R performs multi-environment analyses by using the residual maximum likelihood(REML)method;these analyses can be done by environment,across environments by grouping factors(stress conditions,nitrogen content,etc.)and across environments;the analyses across environments can be done with a pre-defined degree of heritability.

DEAR EDITOR,Analysis of SARS-CoV-2 genome variation using a minimal number of selected informative sites conforming a genetic barcode presents several *** show that purely mathematical procedures for site selection should be supervised by known phylogeny(i)to ensure that solid tree branches are represented instead of mutational hotspots with poor phylogeographic proprieties,and(ii)to avoid phylogenetic *** propose a procedure that prevents information redundancy in site selection by considering the cumulative informativeness of previously selected sites(as a proxy for phylogenetic-based criteria).This procedure demonstrates that,for short barcodes(e.g.,11 sites),there are thousands of informative site combinations that improve previous *** also show that barcodes based on worldwide databases inevitably prioritize variants located at the basal nodes of the phylogeny,such that most representative genomes in these ancestral nodes are no longer in ***,coronavirus phylodynamics cannot be properly captured by universal genomic barcodes because most SARS-CoV-2 variation is generated in geographically restricted areas by the continuous introduction of domestic variants.

Research on biogeographical ancestry(BgA)is becoming of growing interest in forensic genetics and in the biomedical literature(1)Thus,for instance,the need to predict ethnicity of an unknown suspect based on DNA profiles found at the crime scene is of maximum interest in criminalistics[2],and several autosomal SNP panels have been designed and tested for BgA investigations[3,4].Most of these panels aim at discriminating three main continental groups(sub-Saharan Africans,Europeans,and Asians)by way of testing a number of ancestry informative markers(AIMs)that run from a few dozens to a few hundred[5](see more background in Supplementary data online).
