Originally identified as allelochemicals involved in plant-parasite interactions, more recently, Strigolactones （SLs） have been shown to play multiple key roles in the rhizosphere communication between plants and mycorrhizal fungi. Even more recent is the hormonal role ascribed to SLs which broadens the biological impact of these relatively simple molecules. In spite of the crucial and multifaceted biological role of SLs, there are no data on the receptor（s） which bind（s） such active molecules, neither in the producing plants nor in parasitic weeds or AM fungi. Information about the putative receptor of SLs can be gathered by means of structural, molecular, and genetic approaches. Our contribution on this topic is the design and synthesis of fluorescent labeled SL analogs to be used as probes for the detection in vivo of the receptor（s）. Knowledge of the putative receptor structure will boost the research on analogs of the natural substrates as required for agricultural applications.

An investigation was carried out to evaluate the effect of different application forms and concentrations of melatonin on germination and initial growth of melon plants in several different salinity conditions. We evaluated germination percentage and growth of seedlings and measured total chlorophyll content, relative electrolyte leakage, peroxidase activity, root viability, proline concentration, relative water content,Na^+/K^+ratio in green parts and K^+leakage from roots. Seed germination percentage under salt stress increased with treatments of 10 and50 μmol·L^(-1) melatonin. Seed treatment and plant watering with melatonin at 50 μmol·L^(-1) improved growth parameters and plants showed higher chlorophyll content as well as better biochemical parameters than non-treated plants. Results suggest that melatonin can alleviate the effect of salt stress during seed germination and first stages of plant development.

Neurotropic herpesviruses have been associated with the onset and progression of Alzheimer’s disease,a common form of dementia that afflicts a large percentage of elderly ***,among the neurotropic herpesviruses,herpes simplex virus-1,human herpesvirus-6A,and human herpesvirus-6B have been reported to infect several cell types present in the central nervous system and to dysregulate autophagy,a process required for homeostasis of cells,especially *** autophagosome accumulation,indicating an unbalance between autophagosome formation and autophagosome degradation,has been observed in neurons of Alzheimer’s disease patients and may play a role in the intracellular and extracellular accumulation of amyloidβand in the altered protein tau ***,herpesvirus infection of central nervous system cells such as glia and microglia can increase the production of oxidant species through the alteration of mitochondrial dynamics and promote inflammation,another hallmark of Alzheimer’s *** evidence suggests that it is worth further investigating the role of neurotropic herpesviruses,particularly human herpesvirus-6A/B,in the etiopathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease.

First report of Citrus tristeza virus （CTV, Closterovirus） in Morocco datesback to 1961 in collections of citrus varieties. An exhaustive survey of citrus in the north of the country in 2009 revealed that CTV was spread all over the citrus production area. We attempted to evaluate the relative contribution of different aphid species in the spread of CTV disease in a Citrus reticulata orchard at the Loukkous region during 2 years （2012 and 2013）. The overall CTV incidence estimated in the experimental site increased from 17.8% in 2012 to 31.15% in 2013. The most abundant aphid species colonising clementine trees was Aphis spiraecola and A. gossypii. Both aphid species reached their maximum peaks during the spring season. The rate of viruliferous aphids, estimated by real-time RT-pCR of single aphid, revealed that 35.4% of winged A. gossypii and 28.8% of winged A. spiraecola were viruliferous, confirming a high inoculum pressure in the area surrounding the experimental site. The aphid species Toxoptera citricida, which is able to transmit the aggressive isolates of CTV, was not found in the Loukkous region. The study of the spatial distribution of the CTV showed that in general, the disease was randomly distributed in the field. Overall, the results seem to indicate that A. spiraecola may be considered as the major aphid species contributing to CTV spread in our experimental conditions. The prevalence of mild strains in the region and the high level of aphid flight activity could explain the rapid evolution of CTV incidence in the experimental area.

The genetic bases and molecular mechanisms involved in the assembly and function of the flagellum components as well as in the regulation of the flagellar movement are not fully understood, especially in humans. There are several causes for sperm immotility, of which some can be avoided and corrected, whereas other are related to genetic defects and deserve full investigation to give a diagnosis to patients. This review was performed after an extensive literature search on the online databases pubMed, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science. Here, we review the involvement of regulatory pathways responsible for sperm motility, indicating possible causes for sperm immotility. These included the calcium pathway, the cAMp-dependent protein kinase pathway, the importance of kinases and phosphatases, the function of reactive oxygen species, and how the regulation of cell volume and osmolarity are also fundamental components. We then discuss main gene defects associated with specific morphological abnormalities. Finally, we slightly discuss some preventive and treatments approaches to avoid development of conditions that are associated with unspecified sperm immotility. We believe that in the near future, with the development of more powerful techniques, the genetic causes of sperm immotility and the regulatory mechanisms of sperm motility will be better understand, thus enabling to perform a full diagnosis and uncover new therapies.

Behavioral constraints and the evolution of faithful social learning

Behavioral ＂traditions＂, i.e. behavioral patterns that are acquired with the aid of social learning and that are relatively stable in a group, have been observed in several species. Recently, however, it has been questioned whether non-human social learning is faithful enough to stabilize those patterns. The observed stability could be interpreted as a result of various constraints that limit the number of possible alternative behaviors, rather than of the fidelity of transmission mechanisms. Those constraints can be roughly described as ＂internal＂, such as mechanical （bodily） properties or cognitive limitations and predispositions, and ＂ex- ternal＂, such as ecological availability or pressures. Here we present an evolutionary individual-based model that explores the re- lationships between the evolution of faithful social learning and behavioral constraints, represented both by the size of the beha- vioral repertoire and by the ＂shape＂ of the search space of a given task. We show that the evolution of high-fidelity transmission mechanisms, when associated with costs （e.g. cognitive, biomechanical, energetic, etc.）, is only likely if the potential behavioral repertoire of a species is large and if the search space does not provide information that can be exploited by individual learning. Moreover we show how stable behavioral patterns （＂traditions＂） can be achieved at the population level as an outcome of both high-fidelity and low-fidelity transmission mechanisms, given that the latter are coupled with a small behavioral repertoire or with a search space that provide substantial feedback. Finally, by introducing the possibility of environmental change, we show that intermediate rates of change favor the evolution of faithful social learning

Ionic liquids are possible alternative solvents for the separation of aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons by liquid-liquid extrac- tion. Interfacial tension is an important property to consider in the design of liquid-liquid extraction processes. In this work, the liquid-liquid interfacial tension and the mutual solubility at 25 ℃ have been measured for a series of biphasic, equilibrated mixtures of an ionic liquid and a hydrocarbon. In particular, the ionic liquids 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bis（trifluorome- thanesulfonyl）imide （with the alkyl substituent being ethyl, hexyl or decyl）, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ethylsulfate, and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium methanesulfonate have been selected, as well as the hydrocarbons benzene, hexane, ethylben- zene, and octane. The selected sets of ionic liquids and hydrocarbons allow the analysis of the influence of a series of effects on the interfacial tension. For example, the interfacial tension decreases with an increase in the length of the alkyl substituent chain of the cation or with an increase of the degree of charge delocalisation in the anion of the ionic liquid. Also, the interfa- cial tension with the aromatic hydrocarbons is markedly lower than that with the aliphatic hydrocarbons. A smaller effect is caused by variation of the size of the hydrocarbon. Some of the observed trends can be explained from the mutual solubility of the hydrocarbon and the ionic liquid.

The aim of this study is to propose the output controller to solve the execution of the gait sequence for Gecko Bio-inspired Robotic Devices (GBRDs).The Twisting Controller (TC) serves as basis of the tracking trajectory designed *** TC uses both the tracking error and its estimated derivative,which is calculated by a set of distributed Super-Twisting Algorithms (STAs).Each STA is implemented as a robust and exact *** output-based controller structure corresponds to a sort of decentralized form for robotic ***,each articulation is controlled by an independent TC.A set of proposed references trajectories reproduce the gait cycle of a Real Gecko-Lizard (RG-L).The reference trajectories are proposed as the superposition of sigmoid functions ful-filling the conditions of the Bezzier *** simulations evaluate the GBRD movement enforced by the suggested controller in the horizontal as well as the vertical *** own 3D printed GBRD is the experimental platform aimed to test the distributed *** controlled vacuum pumps are used to adhere the GBRD to the wall surfaces.A set of experimental validations confirm the robustness and the reliability of the proposed controller when its performance is compared with classical output feedback controllers.
