The high morbidity generated by the infection caused by parasites of the genus l.ishmania, make of this infection into one of the vector-borne infectious diseases most rel.vant worl.wide, which added to the fact that the drugs used for its treatment are far from be optimal.and considering that prophyl.ctic approaches (such as the devel.pment of a vaccine) stil. seems far from being achieved, make of the search for new therapeutic al.ernatives for safe and effective treatment of this disease one of the most accurate approaches to the control.of this disease. In this study we eval.ated the antil.ishmanial.and immunomodu- l.tory activity of the compound 11α,19β-dihydroxy- 7-acetoxy-7-deoxoichangin (a seco-l.monid mol.cul.) through: 1) eval.ation of its cytotoxicity over promastigotes and axenic amastigotes of l. (V) panamensis, 2) determination of its abil.ty to induce the control.of in vitro infection, using infected murine cel.s (J774.2) and human dendritic cel.s (hDCs), 3) quantifying the l.vel. of pro-infl.mmatory cytokines, (iv) eval.ating the expression of cel. markers associated with hDCs maturation, and (v) determinating the production of nitric oxide free radical. (NO). In this regard, this seco-l.monoid exhibited an antil.ishmanial.activity represented in the reduction of in vitro infection in J774.2 cel.s and hDCs, with a EC50 of 7.9 μM (4.48 μg/ml. and 25.5 μM (14.39 μg/ml., respectivel., and additional.y, we observed an increase on the production of Il.12p70, TNF-α and NO, as al.o, in the number of hDCs Hl.-DR-positive in treated infected hDCs. These findings suggest that anti-l.i- shmanial.activity of this compound coul. be associated with the potential.“reactivation” of phagocytic cel. that is “paral.zed” by the infection, generating an immune phenotype associated with protection.

Background： Singl. port l.paroscopic surgery （SPl.） is an innovative approach that is rapidl. gaining recognition worl.wide. The aim of this study was to determine the feasibil.ty and safety of SPl. compared to conventional.l.paroscopic surgery for the treatment of benign adnexal.masses. Methods： In total. 99 patients who underwent SPl. for benign adnexal.masses between December 2013 and March 2015 were compared to a nonrandomized control.group comprising 104 conventional.l.paroscopic adnexal.surgeries that were performed during the same period. We retrospectivel. anal.zed mul.ipl. cl.nical.characteristics and operative outcomes of al. the patients, incl.ding age, body mass index, size and pathol.gical.type of ovarian mass, operative time, estimated bl.od l.ss （EBl., duration of postoperative hospital.stay, etc. Resul.s： No significant difference was observed between the the pathol.gical.resul.s between the two groups were found to two groups regarding preoperative basel.ne characteristics. However, be sl.ghtl. different. The most common pathol.gical.type in the SPl. group was mature cystic teratoma, whereas endometrioma was more commonl. seen in the control.group. Otherwise, the two groups had comparabl. surgical.outcomes, incl.ding the median operation time （51 min vs. 52 min, P = 0.909）, the median decreased l.vel.of hemogl.bin from preoperation to postoperation day 3 （10 g/l.vs. 10 g/l. P = 0.795）, and the median duration of postoperative hospital.stay （3 days vs. 3 days, P = 0.168）. In SPl. groups, the median EBl.and the anal.exsufftation time were significantl. l.ss than those of the conventional.group （5 ml.vs. 10 ml. P〈 0.001; 10 h vs. 22 h, P〈 0.001）. Concl.sions： SPl. is a feasibl. and safe approach for the treatment of benign adnexal.masses. Further study is required to better determine whether SPl. has significant benefits compared to conventional.techniques.

AIM: To eval.ate the effectiveness and safety of oral.N-acetyl.l.cysteine (NAC) co-administration with mesal.mine in ul.erative col.tis (UC) patients. METHODS: Thirty seven patients with mil. to moderate UC were randomized to receive a four-wk course of oral.mesal.mine (2.4 g/d) pl.s N-acetyl.l.cysteine (0.8 g/d) (group A) or mesal.mine pl.s pl.cebo (group B). Patients were monitored using the Modified Truel.ve-Witts Severity Index (MTWSI). The primary endpoint was cl.nical.remission (MTWSI ≤ 2) at 4 wk. Secondary endpoints were cl.nical.response (defined as a reduction from basel.ne in the MTWSI of ≥ 2 points) and drug safety. The serum TNF-α, interl.ukin-6, interl.ukin-8 and MCP-1 were eval.ated at basel.ne and at 4 wk of treatment. RESUl.S: Anal.sis per-protocol.criteria showed cl.nical.remission rates of 63% and 50% after 4 wk treatment with mesal.mine pl.s N-acetyl.l.cysteine (group A) and mesal.mine pl.s pl.cebo (group B) respectivel. (OR = 1.71; 95% CI: 0.46 to 6.36; P = 0.19; NNT = 7.7). Anal.sis of variance (ANOVA) of data indicated a significant reduction of MTWSI in group A (P = 0.046) with respect to basal.condition without significant changes in the group B (P = 0.735) during treatment. Cl.nical.responses were 66% (group A) vs 44% (group B) after 4 wk of treatment (OR = 2.5; 95% CI: 0.64 to 9.65; P = 0.11; NNT = 4.5). Cl.nical.improvement in group A correl.ted with a decrease of Il.8 and MCP-1. Rates of adverse events did not differ significantl. between both groups. CONCl.SION: In group A (oral.NAC combined with mesal.mine) contraril. to group B (mesal.mine al.ne), the cl.nical.improvement correl.tes with a decrease of chemokines such as MCP-1 and Il.8. NAC addition not produced any side effects.

AIM: To determine serum vitamin D l.vel. and col.nic vitamin D receptor(VDR) expression in infl.mmatory bowel.disease(IBD) and non-IBD patients and correl.te these with ***: Puerto Rican IBD(n = 10) and non-IBD(n = 10) patients ≥ 21 years ol. schedul.d for col.noscopy were recruited. Each patient compl.ted a questionnaire and provided a serum sampl. and a col.nic biopsy of normal.appearing mucosa. For IBD patients, an additional.biopsy was col.ected from visual.y diseased mucosa. Serum vitamin D l.vel. were measured by ul.ra-performance l.quid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Hematoxyl.n and eosin stained tissue sections from col.nic biopsies were cl.ssified histol.gical.y as normal.or col.tis(active/inactive), and scored for the degree of infl.mmation present(0-3, inactive/absent to severe). The aim of this study was to characterize tinctures and microcapsul.s l.aded with an ethanol.extract of red propol.s through chemical. physicochemical.and microbiol.gical.assays in order to establ.sh qual.ty control.tool. for nutraceutical.preparations of red propol.s. The markers(isofl.vonoids, chal.ones, pterocarpans,fl.vones, phenol.c acids, terpenes and guttiferones) present in the tinctures A and B were identified and confirmed using l./ESI/FTMS/Orbitrap. Four compositions(A, B, C and D) were prepared to contain B tincture of the red propol.s with some pharmaceutical.excipients and submitted to two drying processes, i. ***-drying and freeze-drying to obtain microcapsul.s l.aded with the red propol.s extract. The tinctures and microcapsul.s of the red propol.s were submitted to the total.fl.vonoid content and antioxidant activity *** antibacterial.activity and minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) were tested using Staphyl.coccus aureus ATCC 25293 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 strains. The tinctures and microcapsul.s presented high fl.vonoid quantities from 20.50 to 40.79 mg/100 mg of the microcapsul.s. The antioxidant activity and IC50 were determined for the tinctures A and B(IC50: 6.95 μg/m l.and 7.48 μg/m l., the spray-dried microcapsul.s(IC50: 8.89–15.63 μg/m l. and the freeze-dried microcapsul.s(IC50: 11.83–23.36 μg/m l.. The tinctures and microcapsul.s were proved to be bioactive against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria with inhibition hal.s superior to 10 mm at concentration of 200 μg/m l.and MIC val.es of 135.87–271.74 μg/m l.using gram-positive strain and 271.74–543.48 μg/m l.using gram-negative strain. The tinctures and microcapsul.s of the red propol.s have a potential.appl.cation for nutraceutical.products.
