Urban traffic congestion is a severe and widely studied problem over the decade because of the negative impacts. However, in recent years some approaches emerge as proper and suitable solutions. The Carpooling initiative is one of the most representative efforts to propitiate a responsible use of particular vehicles. Thus, the paper introduces a carpooling model considering the users’ preference to reach an appropriate match among drivers and passengers. In particular, the paper conducts a study of 6 of the most avid classified techniques in machine learning to create a model for the selection of travel companions. The experimental results show the models’ precision and assess the best cases using Friedman’s test. Finally, the conclusions emphasize the relevance of the proposed study and suggest that it is necessary to extend the proposal with more drives and passengers’ data.

Correlations for the extension of a water vapor jet injected in a liquid pool were historically proposed considering the mass flux (kg/m2/s) as a constant. The results were satisfactory, however adjusting the values by linear regression. Although, it presents the following drawbacks: 1) the formulation is only valid for the specific range of data for what it was created;2) it does not allow the analytical evaluation of the heat transfer coefficient from the extension equation. This paper proposes a new formulation for the calculation of the mass flux, in such a way to remove both of these drawbacks.

Cocaine and crack cocaine are usually seized with a great diversity of adulterants, such as benzocaine, lidocaine, caffeine, and procaine. The forensic identification of cocaine in these drug mixtures is normally performed using colorimetric testing kits, but these tests may suffer from interferences providing false-positive or false-negatives. In this work, we describe the use of thin layer chromatography coupled to easy sonic-spray ambient ionization mass spectrometry (TLC/EASI-MS) for rapid and secure analysis of cocaine and crack cocaine. Fifteen cocaine samples were analyzed, and all of them revealed positive TLC/EASI-MS results for cocaine, but other drugs and adulterants were also detected such as lidocaine, caffeine, benzocaine, lactose, benzoylecgonine, and ecgonidine. False positives and false negatives, as judged by the TLC Rf values, were identified via on-spot characterization by EASI-MS. The TLC/EASI-MS combination seems therefore to provide an appropriate technique for secure forensic investigations of illicit drugs.

Background &Aims: Proinflammatory interleukin (IL)-1 gene polymorphisms asso ciated with high levels of IL-1βactivity increase the risk for hypochlorhydria and distal gastric carcinoma. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether car riers of these polymorphic genes are protected against gastroesophageal reflux d isease (GERd). TNFA-308 polymorphisms were also studied. Methods: We prospectiv ely evaluated 385 patients without gastric cancer and peptic ulcer. Of these pat ients,383 (98 with GERd and 285 controls) were successfully genotyped for all cy tokines studied. The cagA status of Helicobacter pylori isolates was determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). IL1B-511/-31, IL1RN, and TNFA-308 polymor phisms were genotyped by PCR, PCR/restriction fragment length polymorphism, or PCR/confronting 2-pair primers. Histologic g astritis was assessed according to the updated Sydney system. The role of the pr oinflammatory cytokine genotypes in the genesis of GERd was evaluated before and after stratification by H. pylori status in logistic regression models controll ing for confounding factors. Results: IL1B-31 (a near-complete linkage disequi librium between polymorphism at -31 and -511 was found) and IL1RN*2 allele po lymorphisms were associated with GERd. After stratification, in the group of H. pylori-positive patients, cagA-positive status,IL1B-31 polymorphic alleles, I L1RN*2 alleles, and the degree of corpus gastritis were negatively associated w ith GERd. In the H. pylori-negative group, IL1B-31C/C genotype was inversely a ssociated with GERd even after adjustment for age and sex. Conclusions: This stu dy provides evidence supporting the independent protective role of cagA-positiv e *** status and IL1B and ILRN allele polymorphisms against GERd.

Many researchers around the world are looking for developing techniques or technologies that cover traditional and recent constraints in urban traffic con-trol. Normally, such traffic devices are facing with a large scale of input data when they must to response in a reliable, suitable and fast way. Because of such statement, the paper is devoted to introduce a proposal for enhancing the traffic light decisions. The principal goal is that a semaphore can provide a correct and fluent vehicular mobility. However, the traditional semaphore operative ways are outdated. We present in a previous contribution the development of a methodology capable of improving the vehicular mobility by proposing a new green light interval based on road conditions with a CBR approach. However, this proposal should include whether it is needed to modify such light duration. To do this, the paper proposes the adaptation of a fuzzy inference system helping to decide when the semaphore should try to fix the green light interval according to specific road requirements. Some experiments are conducted in a simulated environment to evaluate the pertinence of implementing a decision-making before the CBR methodology. For example, using a fuzzy inference approach the decisions of the system improve almost 18% in a set of 10,000 experiments. Finally, some conclusions are drawn to emphasize the benefits of including this technique in a methodology to implement intelligent semaphores.

Objective: To evaluate the trypanocidal, leishmanicidal and cytotoxic activity of Eugenia jambolana(E. jambolana) and Eugenia uniflora(E. uniflora) extracts and ***: The products were characterized by LC–MS. Antiparasitic assays were performed and cytotoxicity was evaluated in fibroblastos. In vitro assays were performed using spectrophotometric evaluation. All assays were performed in ***: The results showed that the extracts and the tannic fraction from E. jambolana inhibited 100% of the epimastigote lines. The ethanolic extract was the most efficient in all concentrations tested against the three parasite strains. In the cytotoxicity assay the flavonoid fraction showed low toxicity. All E. uniflora samples showed cytotoxicity at the highest concentration tested, but the extract showed no toxic effect on the fibroblasts at the lowest concentration. The flavonoid and tannic fractions were more efficient against Leishmania braziliensis promastigotes compared to the extract. However, the extracts and the tannic fraction were more effective against Leishmania infantum strains. The effect on epimastigote cells was observed at all concentrations tested, with all E. uniflora samples. However, the samples were more effective at the highest concentration, where there was inhibition in 100% of the Trypanosoma cruzi ***: The species E. jambolana and E. uniflora presented antiparasitic activity against all tested parasite strains, indicating that these species can serve as an alternative therapy as they were efficient in the tests performed. The E. uniflora extract and the E. jambolana flavonoid fraction presented a low cytotoxicity, opening the floor for new biological studies.
