Prior to the availability of whole-genome sequences,our understanding of the structural and functional aspects of Prunus tree genomes was limited mostly to molecular genetic mapping of important traits and development of EST *** public release of the peach genome and others that followed,significant advances in our knowledge of Prunus genomes and the genetic underpinnings of important traits *** this review,we highlight key achievements in Prunus genetics and breeding driven by the availability of these whole-genome *** the structural and evolutionary contexts,we summarize:(1)the current status of Prunus whole-genome sequences;(2)preliminary and ongoing work on the sequence structure and diversity of the genomes;(3)the analyses of Prunus genome evolution driven by natural and man-made selection;and(4)provide insight into haploblocking genomes as a means to define genome-scale patterns of evolution that can be leveraged for trait selection in pedigree-based Prunus tree breeding programs ***,we summarize recent and ongoing work that leverages whole-genome sequences to identify and characterize genes controlling 22 agronomically important Prunus *** include phenology,fruit quality,allergens,disease resistance,tree architecture,and ***,we explore the application of sequence-based marker-assisted breeding technologies and other sequence-guided biotechnological approaches for Prunus crop ***,we present the current status of publically available Prunus genomics and genetics data housed mainly in the genome Database for Rosaceae(gDR)and its updated functionalities for future bioinformatics-based Prunus genetics and genomics inquiry.

Landslide inventory validation and susceptibility mapping in the gerecse Hills, Hungary

Landslides pose a threat to property both in the populated and cultivated areas of the gerecse Hills (Hungary). The currently available landslide inventory database holds the records from many sites in the area, but the database is out-of-date. Here we address the problem of revising the National Landslides Cadastre landslide inventory database by creating a landslide suscept-ibility map with a multivariate model based on likelihood ratio functions. The model is applied to the TanDEM-X DEM (0.4″ res.), the current landslide inventory of the area, and data acquired from geological maps. By comparing the distributions of four variables in the landslide and non-landslide area with grid computation methods, the model yields landslide susceptibility estimates for the study area. The estimations show to what extent a certain area is similar to the sample areas, therefore, its likelihood to be affected by landslides in the future. The accuracy of the model predictions was checked in the field and compared to the results of our previous study using the SRTM-1 DEM for a similar analysis. The model gave accurate estimates when certain correction measures were applied to the input datasets. The limitations of the model, the input datasets, and the suggested correction measures are also discussed.

Colon capsule endoscopy: Current status and future directions

Colon capsule endoscopy(CCE; Pill Cam Colon; given Imaging; Yoqneam, Israel) is a minimally invasive wireless technique for the visualization of the colon. With the recent introduction of the second generation colon capsule the diagnostic accuracy of CCE for polyp detection has significantly improved and preliminary data suggest it may be useful to monitor mucosal inflammation in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Limitations include the inability to take biopsies and the procedural costs. However, given the potentially higher acceptance within an average risk colorectal cancer(CRC) screening population, its usefulness as a screening tool with regard to CRC prevention should be further evaluated.

The Dormancy-associated MADS-box(DAM)gene cluster in peach serves as a key regulatory hub on which the seasonal temperatures act and orchestrate dormancy onset and exit,chilling response and floral bud developmental ***,how different temperature regimes interact with and regulate the six linked DAM genes remains ***,we demonstrate that chilling downregulates DAM1 and DAM3–6 in dormant floral buds with distinct patterns and identify DAM4 as the most abundantly expressed *** reveal multiple epigenetic events,with tri-methyl histone H3 lysine 27(H3K27me3)induced by chilling specifically in DAM1 and DAM5,a 21-nt sRNA in DAM3 and a ncRNA induced in *** induction is inversely correlated with downregulation of their cognate *** also show that the six DAMs were hypermethylated,associating with the production of 24-nt ***,the chilling-responsive dynamic of the different epigenetic elements and their interactions likely define distinct expression abundance and downregulation pattern of each *** further show that the expression of the five DAMs remains steadily unchanged or continuously downregulated at the ensuing warm temperature after chilling,and this state of regulation correlates with robust increase of sRNA expression,H3K27me3 and CHH methylation,which is particularly pronounced in *** robust increase of repressive epigenetic marks may irreversibly reinforce the chillingimposed repression of DAMs to ensure flower-developmental programming free from any residual DAM *** together,we reveal novel information about genetic and epigenetic regulation of the DAM cluster in peach,which will be of fundamental significance in understanding of the regulatory mechanisms underlying chilling requirement and dormancy release,and of practical application for improvement of plasticity of flower time and bud break in fruit trees to adapt changing climates.

Catalysis over metal nanoparticles is essential for the growth of carbon nanotubes and all the properties of the resulting nanotube,such as diameter and chirality,are affected by the metal ***,it is very important to understand the carbon chemistry taking place on nanometer size metal *** we present the fi rst ab initio computational study of chemical reactions on a nanosized iron *** clusters have reaction sites,such as edges and vertexes between the facets,Which have not been studied *** principles electronic structure calculations,fully incorporating the effects of spin polarization and non-collinear magnetic moments,have been used to investigate CO disproportionation on an isolated Fe55 *** CO dissociation,O atoms remain on the surface while C atoms move into the cluster,presumably as the initial step toward carbide *** we show that the lowest CO dissociation barrier found on the cluster(0.77 eV)is lower than on most previously studied Fe *** dissociation occurs on a vertex between the *** possible paths for CO2 formation were identifi *** calculated lowest reaction barrier is 1.08 eV,which is comparable to the barrier of 0.65 eV obtained by experiment.

The leaflet architecture of Cyclocarya cf. paliurus （Batal.） Iljinskaja from the Hunchun Formation （Middle Eocene） shows similarity to that of modem C. paliurus （Batal.） Iljinskaja and the specimen is the oldest fossil record in Europe and Asia. The distributions of C. cf. paliurus and other fossil records, such as glyptostrobus, Metasequoia, Nyssa, and Liquidambar, in Hunchun flora show that it would have been a warmer-temperature to subtropical climate in Hunchun District during the Eocene period.
