Controlling the morphology of semicond.ctor nanocrystals has typically relied.on controlling the concentration and.species of surface ligand. utilized.in synthesis. Specific shapes, such as branched.structures are of particular interest as the light harvesting and.charge separating layer in a photovoltaic d.vice. In this work we quantify how changes in the reaction temperature affect the resulting morphology of the nanocrystals. The narrowness of the temperature range over which the morphological transition occurred.provid.s guid.nce to the tolerances necessary in the synthesis of Cd.e utilized.in commercial d.vices on a large scale.

The biod.grad.bility of three alkylates （2,3-d.methylpentane, 2,4-d.methylpentane and.2,2,4-trimethylpentane） und.r less agitated.aquifer cond.tions was investigated.in this stud.. All three alkylates biod.grad.d.completely und.r these cond.tions regard.ess of the presence or absence of ethanol or benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and.xylenes （BTEX） in the feed. In the presence of ethanol, alkylates d.grad.tion was not inhibited.by ethanol. However, alkylates d.grad.d.more slowly in the presence of BTEX suggesting competitive inhibition to microbial utilization of alkylates. In the sterile controls, alkylates concentrations remained.unchanged.throughout the experiments.

Land.lid.s pose a threat to property both in the populated.and.cultivated.areas of the Gerecse Hills (Hungary). The currently available land.lid. inventory d.tabase hold. the record. from many sites in the area, but the d.tabase is out-of-d.te. Here we ad.ress the problem of revising the National Land.lid.s Cad.stre land.lid. inventory d.tabase by creating a land.lid. suscept-ibility map with a multivariate mod.l based.on likelihood.ratio functions. The mod.l is applied.to the Tand.M-X d.M (0.4″ res.), the current land.lid. inventory of the area, and.d.ta acquired.from geological maps. By comparing the d.stributions of four variables in the land.lid. and.non-land.lid. area with grid.computation method., the mod.l yield. land.lid. susceptibility estimates for the stud. area. The estimations show to what extent a certain area is similar to the sample areas, therefore, its likelihood.to be affected.by land.lid.s in the future. The accuracy of the mod.l pred.ctions was checked.in the field.and.compared.to the results of our previous stud. using the SRTM-1 d.M for a similar analysis. The mod.l gave accurate estimates when certain correction measures were applied.to the input d.tasets. The limitations of the mod.l, the input d.tasets, and.the suggested.correction measures are also d.scussed.

Ammoniated.bagasse is a plant-d.rived.organic sorbent that can be used.for capturing oil and.for supplying slow-release nutrients to oil-d.grad.ng microorganisms. We investigated.the oil-wicking behavior of this sorbent und.r various cond.tions for its effectiveness in remed.ating oil-contaminated.wetland.. Abiotic microcosms simulating a wetland.environment were used.to assess the influence of sand.particle sizes （20x30 and.60x80 U.S. mesh）, d.grees of oil saturation （25% and.75%）, water table levels （on top of the clean sand.layer, oiled.sand.layer, and.sorbent layer）, and.the presence of sorbent. Results ind.cated.that oil wicking favors higher oil contamination, larger sand.particle size, and.low water coverage. Water coverage was the pred.minant factor limiting the effectiveness of sorbent. The most plausible explanation for this limitation was that sorbent captured.more water than oil at higher water coverage.

Human placental tissues from the first and.second.trimesters of gestation have been investigated.using riboprobe in situ hybrid.sation of mRNA sequences cod.ng for membrane type metalloproteinase (MT-1-MMP) and.tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1). Results show that (i) both mRNAs express at a relatively high level in the chorion laeve trophoblast cells and.the ad.acent d.cid.al cells of fetal membrane; (ii) the most abund.nt expression of the two mRNAs was found.in the extravillous trophoblast between Rohrs and.Nitabuch striae of basal plate, trophoblast shell and.gland.cells of the d.cid.a; (iii) isolated.or small groups of cytotrophoblast cells in the chorionic villi and.in the cells lining arterioles in d.cid.a and.stem villi also expressed.both MT-1-MMP and.TIMP-1 at d.fferent extents. The d.ta suggest that the coord.nated.expression of the MT-MMP and.its inhibitor TIMP in d.fferent cells of the placental tissue may play an essential role in trophoblast invasion and.angiogenesis

Over the last 20 years, laparoscopic colorectal surgery has shown equal efficacy for benign and.malignant colorectal d.seases when compared.to open surgery. However, a laparoscopic approach red.ces postoperative morbid.ty and.shortens hospital stay. In the quest to optimize outcomes after laparoscopic colorectal surgery, red.ction of access trauma could.be a way to improve recovery. To d.te, one method.to red.ce access trauma is natural orifice specimen extraction(NOSE). NOSE aims to red.ce access trauma in laparoscopic colorectal surgery. The specimen is d.livered.via a natural orifice and.the anastomosis is created.intracorporeally. d.fferent method. are used.to extract the specimen and.to create a bowel anastomosis. Currently, specimens are d.livered.transcolonically, transrectally, transanally, or transvaginally. Each of these NOSEproced.res raises specific issues with regard.to operative technique and.application. The presumed.benefits of NOSE-proced.res are less pain, lower analgesia requirements, faster recovery, shorter hospital stay, better cosmetic results, and.lower incisional hernia rates. Avoid.nce of extraction site laparotomy is the most important characteristic of NOSE. Concerns associated.with the NOSE-technique includ. bacterial contamination of the peritoneal cavity, inflammatory response, and.postoperative outcomes, includ.ng postoperative pain and.the functional and.oncologic outcomes. These issues need.to be stud.ed.in prospective rand.mized.controlled.trials. The aim of this systematic review is to d.scribe the role of NOSE in minimally invasive colorectal surgery.

Photorhabd.s luminescens is a Gram-negative, bioluminescent, pigment prod.cing enteric bacterium, which is pathogenic to insects and.has the capability to und.rgo phase variation. The phase I variant of P. luminescens exists as a mutualistic symbiont where it plays a critical role in the life-cycle of the soil-d.elling nematod., Heterorhabd.tis bacteriophora. Both the bacterium and.the nematod. receive their nutritional requirements from the bioconversion of the insect host which is rich in many macromolecules such as the d.saccharid., trehalose. Trehalose is a non-red.cing d.saccharid. of glucose that is formed.by an a-1,1-glycosid.c bond.and.is associated.with the physiology of many bacteria, insects and.nematod.s. Trehalose has been shown to be the most abund.nt storage sugar found.within insect hemolymph （1%-2%）. The physicochemical properties of trehalose allow this carbohyd.ate to act as a stress protectant where it has been implicated.with thermal stress, d.hyd.ation, and.osmotic protection of many microorganisms. d.e to these properties, trehalose may allow culture stability of the phase I variant in vitro and.in vivo. Traits of the phase I variant that were stud.ed.in this work includ. bioluminescence and.the prod.ction of the red.anthroquinone-d.rived.pigment. The carbohyd.ates that were utilized.in this stud. were glucose and.trehalose; where shake flask cultures of the phase I variant were cultured.at room temperature for up to six d.ys in carbohyd.ate supplemented.basal med.a with increasing carbohyd.ate concentrations of 0. 1%, 0.5% and.1.0% （v/v）. Relative luminosity, pigmentation and.pH were graphed.as a function of time, carbohyd.ate used. and.carbohyd.ate concentration. d.ta obtained.from this stud. suggests that the supplementation of 1.0% trehalose, when culturing the phase I variant ofP. luminescens, can maintain bioluminosity and.pigmentation over extend.d.period. of time （five d.ys） as compared.to basal med.a and.basal med.a supplemented.with
