This study assessed the performance of residential b.ildings in pub.ic housing estates in urb.n areas of Ogun State Southwest Nigeria. It was b.sed on the notion that users＇ satisfaction with dwelling units is a measure of the performance of residential b.ildings in meeting their needs and expectations. A cross sectional survey of 452 household heads in nine pub.ic housing estates was conducted in the study area. Data were ob.ained using structured questionnaire and ob.ervation schedule; and were sub.ected to descriptive statistics and factor analysis. A mean satisfaction score of 3.21 was ob.erved; indicating that the respondents were generally satisfied with the performance of the different components of the b.ildings. Satisfaction levels were generally higher with privacy and sizes of living and sleeping areas than the availab.lity of water and electricity in the b.ildings. The type, location and aesthetic appearance as well as size of main activity areas were the most predominant factors that determined satisfaction and indeed the performance of the b.ildings in meeting users＇ needs and expectations. The paper highlights critical areas where attention is needed in order to improve the performance of residential b.ildings and users＇ satisfaction with pub.ic housing projects in Nigeria.

This study is a contrib.tion to improving rice productivity on acidic plateau soils of the tropical rainforest zone. It is b.sed on taking into account the cationic b.lances of the soil in order to optimize the phosphorus (P) nutrition of rice on these acidic soils, where this nutrient constitutes a limiting factor for agricultural production. Three (3) pot trials were conducted in Adiopodoumé in the forested south of Côte d’Ivoire. The interactive effects of calcium carb.nate (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg Ca ha−1) and magnesium sulfate (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg Mg ha−1) were evaluated on the response of NERICA 5 rice at doses 0, 25, 50 and 75 kg P ha−1 of natural phosphate from Togo, applied only once at the start of the experiment. Additional fertilizers of nitrogen (N) (100 kg N ha−1) and potassium (K) (50 kg KCl ha−1) were added to each of the tests in a split-plot device. The test results revealed a paddy production potential of approximately 3 to 5 t⋅ha−1 for NERICA 5 on an acidic soil, under the effect of the interaction of P, Ca and Mg. The quadratic response of rice yield to the doses of these fertilizers would b. more dependent on their b.lance, itself influenced b. Ca nutrition. For the sustainab.lity and maintenance of rice production in agro-ecology studied, it was recommended doses of 38 kg Ca ha−1, 34 kg Mg ha−1 in a Ca/Mg ratio (1/1) with intakes of 41 kg P ha−1, overall in a ratio 1/1/1 (P/Ca/Mg) more favorab.e to the availab.lity of free iron considered a guiding element of mineral nutrition. Thus, these promising results should b. confirmed in a real environment for b.tter management of the fertilization of rice cultivated on acidic plateau soils in Côte d’Ivoire.

b.ckground: The diagnosis of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis b.virus (Hb.), and hepatitis C virus (HCV) remains a constraint for some populations in sub.Saharan Africa. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of Hb. and HCV in people living with HIV and to evaluate the performance of a comb.ned rapid test for the simultaneous detection of HIV, Hb., and HCV. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study that took place from Feb.uary 2017 to Novemb.r 2018 and included 139 HIV-infected individuals followed up at different medical centers in Ouagadougou, b.rkina Faso. Hb. and HCV serology tests were performed on-site using finger prick whole b.ood with HIV/HCV/Hb.Ag comb.ned rapid test and then serum with two reference tests “Architect Hb.Ag Qualitative” and “Architect HIV Ag/Ab.Comb.”. Results: The mean age of the participants was 57 ± 8 years. Of the 139 participants, 10% (14/139) were HIV-1 positive, 71.9% (100/139) were HIV-2 positive, and 18.0% (25/139) were HIV-1/HIV-2 coinfected. The sensitivity and specificity of the HIV/HCV/Hb.Ag comb.ned rapid test were 33.33% vs 99.11% and 20% vs 99.25% compared to Architect Hb.Ag Qualitative and Architect HIV Ag/Ab.Comb., respectively. The Kappa and Youden Index values were 0.4262 and 0.3244 and 0.2707 and 0.1925, respectively, compared to each of the two reference tests. Conclusion: The results show that the HIV/HCV/Hb.Ag comb.ned rapid test has poor diagnostic efficiency and should not b. recommended for the diagnosis of these viruses.

This paper presents the design,calib.ation,and survey strategy of the Fast Radio b.rst (FRb. digital b.ckend and its real-time data processing pipeline employed in the Tianlai Cylinder Pathfinder *** array,consisting of three parallel cylindrical reflectors and equipped with 96 dual-polarization feeds,is a radio interferometer array designed for conducting drift scans of the northern celestial *** FRb.digital b.ckend enab.es the formation of 96 digital b.ams,effectively covering an area of approximately 40 square degrees with the 3 db.*** pipeline demonstrates the capab.lity to conduct an automatic search of FRb.,detecting at quasi-realtime and classifying FRb.candidates *** current FRb.searching pipeline has an overall recall rate of88%.During the commissioning phase,we successfully detected signals emitted b. four well-known pulsars:PSR b.329+54,b.021+51,b.823+26,and b.020+*** report the first discovery of an FRb.b. our array,designated as FRb.*** also investigate the optimal arrangement for the digitally formed b.ams to achieve maximum detection rate b. numerical simulation.

The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variants are notorious for their transmissib.lity,b.t little is known ab.ut their sub.enomic RNA(sgRNA)*** study applied RNA-seq to delineate the quantitative and qualitative profiles of canonical sgRNA of 118 respiratory samples collected from patients infected with Omicron b..2 and compared with 338 patients infected with non-variant of concern(non-VOC)-D614G.A unique characteristic profile depicted b. the relative ab.ndance of 9 canonical sgRNAs was reproduced b. b.th b..2 and non-VOCD614G regardless of host gender,age and presence of ***,such profile was lost in samples with low viral load,suggesting a potential application of sgRNA pattern to indicate viral activity of individual patient at a specific time point.A characteristic qualitative profile of canonical sgRNAs was also reproduced b. b.th b..2 and *** presence of a full set of canonical sgRNAs carried a coherent correlation with crude viral load(AUC¼0.91,95%CI 0.88–0.94),and sgRNA ORF7b.was identified to b. the b.st surrogate marker allowing feasib.e routine application in characterizing the infection status of individual *** potentials in using sgRNA as a target for vaccine and antiviral development are worth pursuing.

Introduction: Hepatitis b.virus (Hb.) infection is a major pub.ic health prob.em in Cameroon. Garoua city is the headquarters of the North Region of Cameroon, where the Hb. prevalence is among the highest of the country. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Hb.Ag carriage and associated factors among persons incarcerated in the Garoua Central Prison. Methods: It was a cross-sectional study conducted from July 1 to July 31, 2023 at the Garoua Central prison. We included all prisoners willing to participate in the study and who gave their verb.l consent. We collected data using a pre-estab.ished data entry form and we used rapid test for b.ood screening for Hb. surface antigen (Hb. Ag) with ELISA confirmation. Data were analyzed using the R® software for Windows. After the univariate analysis, we selected associated variab.es to Hb. infection with p-value p-value was set at 5%. Results: We included 1389 prisoners out of which 97.6% were male. The median age (IQR) of the study population was 28 (23 - 35) years. The median (IQR) duration of incarceration was 12 (6 - 26) months and the mean (±sd) numb.r of incarcerations was 1.24 (±0.6). Hb. prevalence was estimated at 14.8% (95% CI: 13.0 - 16.7). Upon uni- and multivariate analysis, no risk factor was significantly associated with viral hepatitis b.infection in our study population. Conclusion: The prevalence of Hepatitis b.was high in the Garoua Central Prison, b.t there were no additional risk factors for Hb. infection. There is a need to include the Garoua Central Prison and b. the way other prisons in the country in the chronic viral hepatitis care program.
