Academic productivity correlates with industry earnings in foot and ankle fellowship programs in the United States:A retrospective analysis

BACKGRoUND the study investigates the connection between academic productivity and industry earnings in foot and ankle orthopedic surgery *** metrics like the H-index and open Payments Database(oPD)data,it addresses a gap in understanding the relationship between scholarly achievements and financial outcomes,providing a basis for further exploration in this specialized medical *** to elucidate the trends between academic productivity and industry earnings across foot and ankle orthopedic surgery fellowship programs in the United *** this study is a retrospective analysis of the relationship between academic productivity and industry earnings of foot and ankle orthopedic surgery fellowships at an individual faculty and fellowship *** productivity was defined via H-index and recorded from the Scopus *** earnings were recorded from the *** Forty-eight foot and ankle orthopedic surgery fellowships(100%of fellowships)in the United States with a combined total of 165 physicians(95.9%of physicians)were *** individual physician(n=165)total life-time earnings reported on the oPD website was United States Dollar(USD)451430.30±1851084.89(range:USD 25.16-21269249.85;median:USD 27839.80).Mean physician(n=165)H-index as reported on Scopus is 14.24±12.39(range:0-63;median:11).there was a significant but weak correlation between individual physician H-index and individual physician total life-time earnings(Po=0.334)and a significant and moderate positive correlation between combined fellowship H-index and total life-time earnings per fellowship(P=0.004,Spearman’s rho=0.409).CoNCLUSIoN there is a significant and positive correlation between academic productivity and industry earnings at foot and ankle orthopedic surgery fellowships in the United *** observation is true on an individual physician level as well as on a fellowship level.

Evaluation of technical Education by Using a Modern Structured MooDLE Laboratory Course, in Relation to Recent Data

E-learning platforms support education systems worldwide, transferring theoretical knowledge as well as soft skills. In the present study high-school pupils’, and adult students’ opinions were evaluated through a modern structured MooDLE interactive course, designed for the needs of the laboratory course “Automotive Systems”. the study concerns Greek secondary vocational education pupils aged 18 and vocational training adult students aged 20 to 50 years. the multistage, equal size simple random cluster sample was used as a sampling method. Pupils and adult students of each cluster completed structured 10-question questionnaires both before and after attending the course. A total of 120 questionnaires were collected. In general, our findings disclosed that the majority of pupils and adult students had significantly improved their knowledge and skills from using MooDLE. they reported strengthening conventional teaching, using the new MooDLE technology. the satisfaction indices improved quite, with the differences in their mean values being statistically significant.

Enhanced electrokinetic remediation of cadmium-contaminated natural clay using organophosphonates in comparison with EDtA

Soil contamination by metals is a worldwide environmental problem. Electrokinetic extraction is a promising technology for in-situ remediation of contaminated soils of low hydraulic permeability. However, the extraction of metals is usually hindered by the high buffer capacity of natural soils. organophosphonates are strong metal chelates as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid(EDtA) which has been widely studied in the enhancement of electrokinetic remediation. In this study, batch desorption experiments and bench-scale electrokinetic extraction experiments were carried out to study the effect of two organophosphonates, i.e.,(nitrilotrimethylene)triphosphonate(NtMP) &(ethylenedinitrilo)-tetramethylenephosphonate(EDtMP), on the extraction of cadmium from a natural clay in comparison with EDtA. Results of the batch desorption experiments showed that more than 75% of the sorbed cadmium could be dissolved into solution using 0.1 mol·L^(-1) organophosphonates or EDtA in the wide p H range of 1–11. Results of the electrokinetic extraction experiments showed that the cadmium spiked in the specimen migrated towards the anode with the enhancement of NtMP,EDtMP, and EDtA under a constant voltage gradient of approximately 1.0 V·cm-1. Although cadmium mobilization enhanced by EDtA was more efficient than that by the organophosphonates, accumulation of cadmium was observed in the vicinity of the anode. the average removal efficiencies of cadmium from the soil after approximately 5 days of electrokinetic extraction enhanced by 0.1 mol·L-1 NtMP(22.8%) and EDtMP(22.4%) were higher than that by 0.1 mol·L^(-1) EDtA(15.1%).

the availability of groundwater of acceptable quality has become a difficult challenge to meet in many countries, particularly Côte d’Ivoire. the State of Côte d’Ivoire and rural populations are building hydraulic infrastructure for this purpose. However, the quality of water coming from these infrastructures remains to be determined. this study therefore aims to analyze certain physicochemical parameters of the groundwater of Gloazra, Kouezra and trahonfla. these are temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, tDS, salinity level, hardness, alkalinity, chloride content and bicarbonate. to determine the pH, electrical conductivity, temperature, tDS, and salinity rate, an electrochemical analysis was carried out. the titrimetric analysis made it possible to determine the chloride and bicarbonate content, alkalinity, and hardness. the results indicate that the studied groundwater is soft and acidic with good mineralization. this water does not present a health hazard to consumers but can affect hydraulic equipment and household containers.

As part of the drive to improve coffee and cocoa production in Ivory Coast, studies are carried out to identify soils that are favourable for these crops. It is therefore necessary to orientate soil investigations based on reliable criteria that best discriminate soil cover. With this in mind, this study is being carried out to help improve survey methods by mapping soil landscapes. It uses GIS and weighted multicriteria analysis. to do this, satellite images were processed and the geological map of the square degrees of M’Bahiakro and Daloa was reclassified. the results show that relief is the main factor in soil landscape differentiation, with respective weights of 0.58 and 0.67 for the forest and pre-forest zones. In contrast, the weight of geological formation in soil landscape differentiation remains low (0.05 for the forest zone and 0.07 for the pre-forest zone). the criteria used on the base of aggregation sum methods have made it possible to formulate soil landscape mapping prediction functions according to agro-ecological environments in the humid intertropical zone. this is essential for the orientation of soil survey work. Nevertheless, other comparative methods, such as the coding mapping method, could provide elements for discussion to validate the models.

this paper deals with Furuta Pendulum(FP)or Rotary Inverted Pendulum(RIP),which is an under-actuated non-minimum unstable non-linear *** process considered along with uncertainties which are unmodelled and analyses the performance of Linear Quadratic Regulator(LQR)with Kalman filter and H∞filter as two filter *** LQR is a technique for developing practical feedback,in addition the desired x shows the vector of desirable states and is used as the external input to the closed-loop *** effectiveness of the two filters in FP or RIP are measured and contrasted with rise time,peak time,settling time and maximum peak overshoot for time domain *** filters are also tested with gain margin,phase margin,disk stability margins for frequency domain performance and worst case stability margins for performance due to *** H-infinity filter reduces the estimate error to a minimum,making it resilient in the worst case than the standard Kalman ***,when theβrestriction value lowers,the H∞filter becomes more *** worst case gain performance is also focused for the two filter configurations and tested where H∞filter is found to outperform towards robust stability and *** the switchover between the two filters is dependent upon a user-specified co-efficient that gives the flexibility in the design of non-linear *** non-linear process is tested for set point tracking,disturbance rejection,un-modelled noise dynamics and uncertainties,which records robust performance towards stability.

Effect of environmental factors on the effectiveness of ammoniated bagasse in wicking oil from contaminated wetlands

Ammoniated bagasse is a plant-derived organic sorbent that can be used for capturing oil and for supplying slow-release nutrients to oil-degrading microorganisms. We investigated the oil-wicking behavior of this sorbent under various conditions for its effectiveness in remediating oil-contaminated wetlands. Abiotic microcosms simulating a wetland environment were used to assess the influence of sand particle sizes （20x30 and 60x80 U.S. mesh）, degrees of oil saturation （25% and 75%）, water table levels （on top of the clean sand layer, oiled-sand layer, and sorbent layer）, and the presence of sorbent. Results indicated that oil wicking favors higher oil contamination, larger sand particle size, and low water coverage. Water coverage was the predominant factor limiting the effectiveness of sorbent. the most plausible explanation for this limitation was that sorbent captured more water than oil at higher water coverage.

Sex development anomalies represent a group of congenital pathologies in which chromosomal, gonadal and anatomical sex differentiation is atypical. the aim of our study was to use molecular biology techniques to elucidate sex in cases of anomalies of sexual differentiation in Burkina Faso. this cross-sectional study took place from March 2023 to June 2023. oral and blood samples were collected respectively using sterile swabs and stored on Swab Kits and NUCLEIcardtM (https://***/product-ranges/nucleic-card/) were used to determine gonosome profiles. Extraction was carried out using the DNA Swap solution Kit and the DNA IQ System Kit, and a PowerPlex? 21 kit (Promega) for amplification. the Applied Biosystems 9700 thermal cycler was used for PCR followed by 36 cm capillary electrophoresis in the Applied Biosystems 3130 prism sequencer. Sequence files were analyzed using GeneMapper IDX v. 3.2 software. Seven (07) patients were registered during the study period. there were 4 cases of XX DSD or 46, XX DSD and 3 cases of XY DSD or 46, XY DSD. the median age of our patients was 16 years. Civilian sex was male in 4 cases and female in 3. the most frequent reason for consultation was micropenis in 3 cases, followed by primary amenorrhea and sex ambiguity. there were 03 cases of discrepancy between genetic sex and civil sex. the accessibility of molecular diagnosis is little known to clinicians. XX DSDs or 46, XX DSDs were the most frequent (4/7) in our study. the problem facing this situation is early diagnosis to help prevent complications in Burkina Faso.
