In the past century, there have been many attempts to treat cancer with low levels of electric and magnetic fields. We have developed noninvasive biofeedback examination devices and techniques and discovered that patients with the same tumor type exhibit biofeedback responses to the same, precise frequencies. Intrabuccal administration of 27.12 Mhz radiofrequency(RF) electromagnetic fields(EMF), which are amplitude-modulated at tumor-specific frequencies, results in long-term objective responses in patients with cancer and is not associated with any significant adverse effects. Intrabuccal administration allows for therapeutic delivery of very low and safe levels of EMF throughout the body as exemplified by responses observed in the femur, liver, adrenal glands, and lungs. In vitro studies have demonstrated that tumor-specific frequencies identified in patients with various forms of cancer are capable of blocking the growth of tumor cells in a tissue- and tumor-specific fashion. Current experimental evidence suggests that tumor-specific modulation frequencies regulate the expression of genes involved in migration and invasion and disrupt the mitotic spindle. This novel targeted treatment approach is emerging as an appealing therapeutic option for patients with advanced cancer given its excellent tolerability. Dissection of the molecular mechanisms accounting for the anti-cancer effects of tumor-specific modulation frequencies is likely to lead to the discovery of novel pathways in cancer.

Cercidiphylloxylon spenceri(Brett)pearson is described from the Lizigou Formation,palaeocene in *** growth rings are distinct;pores are diffuse,solitary,with somewhat angular outlines in cross section;vessel elements long with long scalariform perforation plates;intervessel pitting is opposite to scalariform;fibertracheids are present;axial parenchyma is scarce;rays are mostly biseriate and *** wood characters of the fossil specimen fall into the range of those of extant Cercidiphyllum(Cercidiphyllaceae).The finding is one of the earliest fossil wood records of Cercidiphyllaceae.

Over the past years, more and more attention has been paid to artificial life research. The main object of artificial life research is to explore how to control the environments in which the digital organisms imitating natural life, under complicated competition and evolutionary conditions, develop their own wisdom, which can then be used to solve the problems in the real world. While most of the current researches applied one or another artificial life method to solve real problems, the fundamental mechanism of the emerging process of artificial life is seldom addressed. The research works on genetic algorithms, although bearing fruitful results, could only be deemed as constituting a basic stage in the process of artificial life development. This study proposes a new method of employing artificial life, to complement the contents of the research of mindless intelligence, which is regarded as a bridge linking genetic algorithms to general artificial life. And two important concepts, key manipulating parameters and contribution function in its context, are proposed to expand the mindless intelligence applications, in order to pave the way for the optimal design of an artificial life method, in an attempt to fill the conceptual gap between genetic algorithms and artificial life, and consequently clarifying the artificial life mechanism. As a case study we applied these innovative methods to solve an open problem： the Tower of hanoi, to attest to the feasibility of our approach, and we have achieved satisfactory results.

In recent years, more attention has been paid on artificial life researches. Artificial life（AL） is a research on regulating gene parameters of digital organisms under complicated problematic environments through natural selections and evolutions to achieve the final emergence of intelligence. Most recent studies focused on solving certain real problems by artificial life methods, yet without much address on the AL life basic mechanism. The real problems are often very complicated, and the proposed methods sometimes seem too simple to handle those problems. This study proposed a new approach in AL research, named ＂generalized artificial life structure（GALS）＂, in which the traditional ＂gene bits＂ in genetic algorithms is first replaced by ＂gene parameters＂, which could appear anywhere in GALS. A modeling procedure is taken to normalize the input data, and AL ＂tissue＂ is innovated to make AL more complex. GALS is anticipated to contribute significantly to the fitness of AL evolution. The formation of ＂tissue＂ begins with some different AL basic cells, and then tissue is produced by the casual selections of one or several of these cells. As a result, the gene parameters, represented by ＂tissues＂, could become highly diversified. This diversification should have obvious effects on improving gene fitness. This study took the innovative method of GALS in a stock forecasting problem under a carefully designed manipulating platform. And the researching results verify that the GALS is successful in improving the gene evolution fitness.

Landslides pose a threat to property both in the populated and cultivated areas of the Gerecse hills (hungary). The currently available landslide inventory database holds the records from many sites in the area, but the database is out-of-date. here we address the problem of revising the National Landslides Cadastre landslide inventory database by creating a landslide suscept-ibility map with a multivariate model based on likelihood ratio functions. The model is applied to the TanDEM-X DEM (0.4″ res.), the current landslide inventory of the area, and data acquired from geological maps. By comparing the distributions of four variables in the landslide and non-landslide area with grid computation methods, the model yields landslide susceptibility estimates for the study area. The estimations show to what extent a certain area is similar to the sample areas, therefore, its likelihood to be affected by landslides in the future. The accuracy of the model predictions was checked in the field and compared to the results of our previous study using the SRTM-1 DEM for a similar analysis. The model gave accurate estimates when certain correction measures were applied to the input datasets. The limitations of the model, the input datasets, and the suggested correction measures are also discussed.

Emerging roles of the intestine in control of cholesterol metabolism

The liver is considered the major “control center” for maintenance of whole body cholesterol homeostasis. This organ is the main site for de novo cholesterol synthesis, clears cholesterol-containing chylomicron remnants and low density lipoprotein particles from plasma and is the major contributor to high density lipoprotein (hDL; good cholesterol) formation. The liver has a central position in the classical definition of the reverse cholesterol transport pathway by taking up periphery-derived cholesterol from lipoprotein particles followed by conversion into bile acids or its direct secretion into bile for eventual removal via the feces. During the past couple of years, however, an additional important role of the intestine in maintenance of cholesterol homeostasis and regulation of plasma cholesterol levels has become apparent. Firstly, molecular mechanisms of cholesterol absorption have been elucidated and novel pharmacological compounds have been identified that interfere with the process and positively impact plasma cholesterol levels. Secondly, it is now evident that the intestine itself contributes to fecal neutral sterol loss as a cholesterol-secreting organ. Finally, very recent work has unequivocally demonstrated that the intestine contributes significantly to plasma hDL cholesterol levels. Thus, the intestine is a potential target for novel anti-atherosclerotic treatment strategies that, in addition to interference with cholesterol absorption, modulate direct cholesterol excretion and plasma hDL cholesterol levels.

The experiments of high throughput drilling of Ti-6Al-4V at 183 m/min cutting speed and 156 mm^3/s material removal rate using a 4 mm diameter WC-Co spiral point drill are conducted. At this material removal rate, it took only 0.57 s to drill a hole in a 6.35 mm thick Ti plate. Supplying the cutting fluid via through-the-drill holes and the balance of cutting speed and feed have proven to be critical for drill life. An inverse heat transfer model is developed to predict the heat flux and the drill temperature distribution in drilling. A three-dimensional finite element modeling of drilling is con-ducted to predict the thrust force and torque. Experimental result demonstrates that, using proper machining process parameters, tool geometry, and fine-grained WC-Co tool material, the high throughput machining of Ti alloy is technically feasible.
