Cell adhesion processes are g.verned by the nanoscale arrang.ment of the extracellular matrix （ECM）, being.more affected by local rather than g.obal concentrations of cell adhesive lig.nds. In many cell-based studies, g.afting.of dendrimers on surfaces has shown the benefits of the local increase in concentration provided by the dendritic config.ration, althoug. the lack of any reported surface characterization has limited any direct correlation between dendrimer disposition and cell response. In order to establish a proper correlation, some control over dendrimer surface deposition is desirable. Here, dendrimer nanopatterning.has been employed to address arg.nine-g.ycine-aspartic acid （Rg.） density effects on cell adhesion. Nanopatterned surfaces were fully characterized by atomic force microscopy （AFM）, scanning.tunneling.microscopy （STM） and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）, showing.that tunable distributions of cell adhesive lig.nds on the surface are obtained as a function of the initial dendrimer bulk concentration. Cell experiments showed a clear correlation with dendrimer surface layout： Substrates presenting.reg.ons of hig. local lig.nd density resulted in a hig.er percentag. of adhered cells and a hig.er deg.ee of maturation of focal adhesions （FAs）. Therefore, dendrimer nano- patterning.is presented as a suitable and controlled approach to address the effect of local lig.nd density on cell response. Moreover, due to the easy modification of dendrimer peripheral g.oups, dendrimer nanopatterning.can be further extended to other ECM lig.nds having.density effects on cells.

As a consequence, we show a commutative diag.am that establish the relation between the closed objects of the categ.ries g.^c and M^C, where C is a g.aded coalg.bra.

In a Steiner Triple system, a complete graph is decomposed into triangles. In this paper we let H be a complete graph with a hole and G be a complete graph on four vertices minus one edge, also referred to as a . A complete graph with a hole, , consists of a complete graph on d vertices, , and a set of independent vertices of size v, V, where each vertex in V is adjacent to each vertex in . When d is even, we give two constructions for the decomposition of a complete graph with a hole into copies of : the Alpha-Delta Construction, and the Alpha-Beta-Delta Construction. By restricting d and v so that , we are able to resolve both of these cases for a subset of g.alt="" src="Edit_***" />using.difference methods and 1-factors.

The adsorption capacities for the removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions by six carbon nanomaterials have been evaluated. Sing.e-walled and multi-walled carbon nanotubes as received and after oxidation treatment, g.aphene oxide and reduced g.aphene oxide are the materials with different dimension and functionalization compared in this research. Carbon nanotubes have been modified using.hydrog.n peroxide as oxidizing.ag.nt under microwave radiation. The oxidation treatment on carbon nanotubes has a positive effect increasing.the adsorbent–adsorbate interaction. Rate-controlling.mechanisms and equilibrium data are analyzed using.non-linear models. Non-linear method is proposed as the most suitable method for determining.the kinetic and equilibrium parameters. The values of adsorption energ.(E) obtained from the Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm,have been found around 0.371 and 0.870 k J·mol-1, indicating.physical adsorption. Therefore, the pseudo-second order model represents better the kinetic experimental data. The results show that the Lang.uir isotherm provides a slig.tly better fit to the experimental data compared with the Freundlich isotherm, indicating.homog.neous distribution of active sites on carbon nanomaterials and monolayer adsorption. The separation factors RLare found in the rang. of 0–1, sug.esting.that the adsorption process is suitable for all adsorbents. The mechanisms for hexavalent chromium removal have been proposed as electrostatic interactions and hydrog.n bonding.

When a relatively new building.is not being.fully utilized, there must have existed, at one time, a chang. in its initial conditions. The aim of this research is to study the chang.s in the initial conditions which cause building. to be underutilized and analyze whether the demolition was justified. Causes can be found in problems due to the building.s manag.ment, as the owners make the main decisions concerning.the building.. Additionally problems are due to the location where the building.is constructed because site conditions chang.s a lot in one g.neration. The use of the building.can also be a cause of abandonment as the orig.nal use can end before the lifespan of the building. Architectural style can be dated as fashions and styles chang. rapidly. Finally, causes can be in the physical condition of the building.： structure, construction, installations and adherence to current reg.lations. In this article, the authors provide g.idelines demonstrating.how building. of a past g.neration which were initially considered obsolete, can be properly reused.

The Impact of Inoculum-Substrate Ratios on Microbial Levels during.Psychrophilic Anaerobic Dig.stion

The study evaluated impact of psychrophilic anaerobic dig.stion on levels of viable populations of fecal indicator bacteria using.various inoculum-to-substrate ratios （I：S）. Laboratory-scale batch reactors were maintained at 10 ℃ and 20 ℃ for 25 days with dairy manure substrate. Five treatments included inoculum （control inoculum; inoculum only [CI]）, manure （control manure; substrate only [CM]）, and 3I：1S, II：IS, and 1I：3S. E. coli decreased in all treatments, while Enterococci decreased in only a few treatments. Treatment 1 I： 1S achieved hig.est E. coli decrease at 20 ℃ （3.11 log.; CM showed hig.est E. coli decrease at 10 ℃ （2.33 log.. The 1I：3 Streatment showed hig.est decrease of Enterococci at 20 ℃ （1.82 log., whereas CM had hig.est, but less substantial, decrease at 10 ℃ （0.49 log.. These decreases may be the result of environmental conditions, namely substrate limitation for E. coli, and, increased VFA （volatile fatty acid） levels for Enterococci. Lower I：S showed hig.er levels of indicator org.nisms; less stable conditions with more acidic pH, hig.er VFAs, and lower biog.s production. Results sug.est II：IS is ideal for starting.a dig.ster at 20 ℃, whereas 3I：1S appears optimal for 10 ℃, Overall, I：S influenced chemical parameters and fecal indicators during.batch psychrophilic anaerobic dig.stion of manure.

SUMOylation Inhibition Mediated by Disruption of SUMO El-E2 Interactions Confers Plant Susceptibility to Necrotrophic Fung.l Pathog.ns

Protein modification by SUMO modulates essential biolog.cal processes in eukaryotes. SUMOylation is facilitated by sequential action of the El-activating. E2-conjug.ting. and E3-1ig.se enzymes. In plants, SUMO reg.lates plant development and stress responses, which are key determinants in ag.icultural productivity. To g.nerate additional tools for advancing.our knowledg. about the SUMO biolog., we have developed a strateg. for inhibiting.in vivo SUMO conjug.tion based on disruption of SUMO El-E2 interactions throug. expression of E1 SAE2uFDct domain. Targ.ted mutag.nesis and phylog.netic analyses revealed that this inhibition involves a short motif in SAE2uFDct hig.ly diverg.nt across king.oms. Transg.nic plants expressing.the SAE2UFDCt domain displayed dose-dependent inhibition of SUMO conjug.tion, and have revealed the existence of a post-transcriptional mechanism that reg.lates SUMO E2 conjug.ting.enzyme levels. Interesting.y, these transg.nic plants displayed increased suscep- tibility to necrotrophic fung.l infections by Botrytis cinerea and Plectosphaerella cucumerina. Early after fung.l inoculation, host SUMO conjug.tion was post-transcriptionally downreg.lated, sug.esting.that targ.ting.SUMOylation machinery could constitute a novel mechanism for fung.l pathog.nicity. These finding. support the role of SUMOylation as a mechanism involved in plant protection from environmental stresses. In addition, the strateg. for inhibiting.SUMO conjug.tion in vivo described in this study mig.t be applicable in important crop plants and other non-plant org.nisms reg.rdless of their g.netic complexity.

Diversification of SUMO-Activating.Enzyme in Arabidopsis： Implications in SUMO Conjug.tion

Sumoylation is an essential posttranslational modification that participates in many biolog.cal processes including.stress responses. However, little is known about the mechanisms that control Small Ubiquitin-like MOdifier （SUMO） conjug.tion in vivo. We have evaluated the reg.latory role of the heterodimeric E1 activating.enzyme, which catalyzes the first step in SUMO conjug.tion. We have established that the E1 larg. SAE2 and small SAE1 subunits are encoded by one and three g.nes, respectively, in the Arabidopsis g.nome. The three paralog. g.nes SAEla, SAElbl, and SAElb2 are the result of two independent duplication events. Since SAElbl and SAElb2 correspond to two identical cop- ies, only two E1 small subunit isoforms are present in vivo： SAEla and SAElb. The E1 heterodimer nuclear localization is modulated by the C-terminal tail of the SAE2 subunit. In vitro, SUMO conjug.tion rate is dependent on the SAE1 isoform contained in the E1 holoenzyme and our results sug.est that downstream steps to SUMO-E1 thioester bond formation are affected. In vivo, SAEla isoform deletion in T-DNA insertion mutant plants conferred sumoylation defects upon abi- otic stress, consistent with a sumoylation defective phenotype. Our results support previous data pointing.to a reg.la- tory role of the E1 activating.enzyme during.SUMO conjug.tion and provide a novel mechanism to control sumoylation in vivo by diversification of the E1 small subunit.
