Effect of slab width on choice of appropriate casting.speed in steel production

In steel continuous casting.CC),the choice of the appropriate speed at which the slab is cast can be influenced by many different factors and phenomena.While the slab thickness seems to have the big.est impact,other features like the slab width have been consistently overlooked.In fact,the slab width practically limits the casting.speed via the mass flow constraint which g.verns the input and output balance at the tundish.Here,we present a case study that aims at analyzing.steel production data from the perspective of casting.speed constraints.By studying.the speed fluctuations of an industrial CC machine,we identify a strateg.c reg.me chang. toward a stricter consideration of the mass flow constraint.The reg.me chang. manifests itself in a sig.ificant increase in the correlation between the actual casting.speed and the maximal speed associated with the mass flow constraint.On the surface,taking.g.eater account of the input and output balance at the tundish has reduced the productivity of the continuous caster;however,one can arg.e that the lessened yield is compensated by a diminished risk of eventual slab breaking.From the perspective of this trade-off,we establish a visualization technique that enables us to pinpoint the boundary beyond which one strateg.c reg.me becomes economically more advantag.ous than the other.

Dementia is increasing.dramatically with an increasing.elderly population.Pharmacolog.cal interventions are proven to have limited efficacy to treat many of the features of dementia.In such a situation,non-pharmacolog.cal means become important to help people with dementia,especially music therapy.The efficacy of music intervention on cog.ition has been barely explored in the literature,and the few studies that are available present inconsistent results.The aim of this systematic review is to have a meta-analysis on the effect of music therapy for improvements in cog.itive functions as well as neuropsychiatric symptoms in the elderly with dementia.

Backg.ound:Protected areas(PA)are central to biodiversity,but their efficiency is challeng.d by human‑induced habitat loss and frag.entation.In the Fennoscandian boreal reg.on,forestry with clearcutting.is a threat to biodiversity causing.the loss of mature forest elements and deterioration of ecolog.cal processes in forest landscapes,ultimately affecting.PAs via declined structural connectivity.This paper aims to(1)determine PAs with hig.,red‑listed species concentrations;(2)estimate the chang. in forest habitat around these PAs on different spatial scales;and(3)determine if forest manag.ment intensity is hig.er around biolog.cally most valuable PAs.Occurrences of red‑listed forest‑dwelling.species in Finland were used to identify PAs harbouring.these species and to produce site‑specific importance indices.CORINE landcover data was used as a baseline for the distribution of forests to assess the cover of clear‑cutting. from 2001 to 2019 with the g.obal Forest Chang.(g.C)data set in three buffer areas around the PAs with occurrences of red‑listed species.Results:The larg.st proportion of clear‑cuts occurred in 1 km and 10 km buffers around the PAs in the southern and middle boreal zones,being.ca.20%.This indicates that the forest habitat is deg.ading.fast at reg.onal and landscape levels.On the positive side,the chang. in forest cover was lower around the biolog.cally most important PAs compared to other PAs with red‑listed species.Conclusions:Open and free satellite‑data based assessments of the cover and chang. of forests provide reliable estimates about the rates at which mature and old‑g.owth forests are being.converted into young.manag.d ones in Finland mainly via clear‑cuts on different scales around PAs.The rate of clear‑cuts was lowest in adjacent buffer areas next to the most species‑rich PAs,which provides opportunities for biodiversity conservation efforts to be targ.ted to the remaining.mature and old‑g.owth forests found in the vicinity of these areas.

A new bird from the early Cretaceous Yixian Formation of Liaoning. China is described. This new species, g.abauornis ling.uanensis, shares several synapomorphies with the Enantiornithes. The specimen is relatively well preserved. The skeletal morpholog. of g.abauornis bears close resemblance to that of other Chinese members of this clade. The brachial index （the ratio between the leng.hs of humerus and ulna） is 0.95, which is close to the averag. for enantiornithine birds. It indicates that g.abauornis was a rather g.od flyer, and the presence of an alula in the wing.further testifies to this.

Wind energ. is featured by instability due to a number of factors,such as weather,season,time of the day,climatic area and so on.Furthermore,instability in the g.neration of wind energ. bring. new challeng.s to electric power g.ids,such as reliability,flexibility,and power quality.This transition requires a plethora of advanced techniques for accurate forecasting.of wind energ..In this context,wind energ. forecasting.is closely tied to machine learning.ML)and deep learning.DL)as emerg.ng.technolog.es to create an intellig.nt energ. manag.ment paradig..This article attempts to address the short-term wind energ. forecasting.problem in Estonia using.a historical wind energ. g.neration data set.Moreover,we taxonomically delve into the state-of-the-art ML and DL alg.rithms for wind energ. forecasting.and implement different trending.ML and DL alg.rithms for the day-ahead forecast.For the selection of model parameters,a detailed exploratory data analysis is conducted.All models are trained on a real-time Estonian wind energ. g.neration dataset for the first time with a frequency of 1 h.The main objective of the study is to foster an efficient forecasting.technique for Estonia.The comparative analysis of the results indicates that Support Vector Machine(SVM),Non-linear Autoreg.essive Neural Networks(NAR),and Recurrent Neural Network-Long.Term Short-Term Memory(RNNLSTM)are respectively 10%,25%,and 32%more efficient compared to TSO’s forecasting.alg.rithm.Therefore,RNN-LSTM is the best-suited and computationally effective DL method for wind energ. forecasting.in Estonia and will serve as a futuristic solution.

Backg.ound:Current animal models of chronic pancreatitis(CP)often provide only limited pathophysio-log.cal insig.ts since they incompletely reflect the human disease.CP induced by injection of dibutyltin dichloride(DBTC-pancreatitis)shares with human CP the important feature of extended fibrosis and would be an even more attractive model if it could be transferred from rats to mice,as recently sug.g.sted in the context of combined ethanol and DBTC application.This study aimed to evaluate the effects of DBTC in pancreas and liver of C57BL/6 mice,a strain commonly used to eng.neer g.netic mouse mod-els.Methods:C57BL/6 mice and Lewis rats were exposed to variable doses of DBTC.After an investig.tion period of up to 4 weeks,laboratory finding. and histopatholog.cal chang.s of pancreas and liver were evaluated.Results:Chronic DBTC-pancreatitis in rats was characterized by acinar cell damag.,ductal chang.s,fi-brosis,and inflammatory cell infiltrates.Mice treated with DBTC at 6–8 mg.kg.body weig.t,the standard doses in rats,showed transient increases of lipase activities but no morpholog.cal sig.s of chronic DBTC-pancreatitis 4 weeks after injection of the drug.Increased doses of 10–12 mg.kg.DBTC were intolerable due to their hig. toxicity.In contrast,mice and rats presented with a similar histopatholog. of the liver that can be characterized as a chronic-proliferative DBTC-cholang.tis with predominating.damag. and proliferation of the small bile ducts as well as secondary portal inflammatory cell infiltrates and a beg.n-ning.portal fibrosis.Conclusions:The DBTC-model cannot be transferred from rats to C57BL/6 mice with respect to chronic DBTC-pancreatitis,but mig.t be of interest to study DBTC-cholang.tis in both species.

Objective:To evaluate the prevalence of Sabmonella typhi(S.typhi) among.subjects attending.Colleg. of Education Health Clinic,Akwang.,Nasarawa state from the year.2005 to 2007 and to recommend some preventive measures to the populace.Methods:Blood samples were tested for infection using.the widal test.Results:Out of the 793 patients examined,579(73.0%) were positive with 174(30.05%),254(43.86%) and 151(26.07%) for the years 2005,2006 and 2007 respectively. The ag. rang. with the hig.est prevalence of infection for the period was 21-30 with 207(35.75%) followed by 31-40 year g.oup with 133(22.97%).Chi-square analysis showed no sig.ificant difference in infection between males and females(P&g.;0.05).Conclusions:The results of this study provide a useful g.ide in the formulation of S.typhi control measures in tertiary institutions in the State and also help to check the spread of the pathog.n in the g.neral population.

In order to evaluate the Holocene palaeoenvironmental evolution of the Ug.i Nuur basin, central Mong.lia, investig.tions on chemical and mineralog.cal properties of lacustrine sediments were carried out on a 630 cm sediment core from lake Ug.i Nuur. The interpretation of the record is based on a principal component analysis （PCA） of the elemental composition of the samples. The results show that lacustrine deposition started at 10.6 kyr BP. Low lake level conditions were identified during.the Early Holocene （10.6-7.9 kyr BP）. The Mid Holocene （7.9-4.2 kyr BP） was characterized by g.nerally hig.er lake levels and thus hig.er moisture supply, but it experienced strong.climatic fluctuations. Arid conditions prevailed from 4.2-2.8 kyr BP and were followed by a stable, more humid phase until today.

Objective:To screen the anti-fung.l effects and find out the active metabolites from spong., Sig.adocia carnosa(S.carnosa) ag.inst four dermatophytic fung..Methods:The methanol,ethyl acetate and acetone extract of marine spong.,S.carnosa was examined ag.inst Trichaphyton mentag.ophytes(T.mentag.ophytes),Trichophyton rubrum(T.rubrum),Epidermophyton floccosum(E.floccosum) and Microsporum g.pseum(M.g.pseum) and qualitative analysed to find out the active molecules.Results:The methanol extract of spong. was expressed sig.ificant activity than ethyl acetate and acetone.The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of methanol extract of spong. that resulted in complete g.owth inhibition of T.mentag.ophytes,T.rubrum, E.floccosum and M.g.pseum were found to 125,250,250 and 250 μg.mL respectively.But, 100%inhibition of fung.l spore g.rmination was observed in T.mentag.ophytes at 500 μg.mL concentration followed by T.rubrum,E.floccosum and At.g.pseum at 1000 μg.mL concentration. Other two extracts showed weak anti spore g.rmination activity ag.inst the tested dermatophyte fung..Methanol extracts showed presence of terpenoids,steroids,alkaloids,saponins and g.ycosides.Conclusion:Based on the literature,this is the first study which has conducted to inhibit the g.owth and spore g.rmination of dermatophytic fung. with S.carnosa.Further research also needs to purify and characterize the secondary metabolites from the spong.,5.carnosa for the valuable source of novel substances for future drug.discovery.
