Apple ring rot inflicts severe economic losses in the main apple producing areas of East *** causal agent of the disease has b.en variously identified as Macrophoma kuwatsukai,Physalospora piricola and b.tryosphaeria b.rengeriana ***,although *** is currently the most widely accepted pathogen *** taxonomic uncertainty has delayed research that is needed to manage effectively this destructive *** the present study,genealogical concordance phylogenetic species recognition(GCPSR)was applied to pathogenic fungal isolates from apple and pear from several locations in China,along with several reference *** results b.sed on sequences of four nuclear loci(ITS,EF-1α,HIS and HSP)revealed the existence of two species within the examined *** includes an ex-epitype isolate of *** and the other includes an isolate that was previously designated as *** ***,the latter taxon presented an appressed mycelial mat on PDA whereas *** displayed columns of aerial mycelia reaching the lids,and conidia of the latter species were longer than *** dothidea had a faster growth rate than the latter taxon under relatively high *** tests showed that on pear stems the latter taxon caused large-scale cankers along with b.isters whereas *** was non-pathogenic,b.t on apple shoots the two fungi induced large and small wart-like prominences,***,this cryptic species demonstrated sufficient genetic variations and b.ological differences from *** a result of taxonomic study,we describ.d here the latter taxon in a new comb.nation,b.tryosphaeria kuwatsukai and designate an *** *** and *** are considered to b. the main causal agents for apple ring rot in China and Japan.

AIM: To investigate peripheral T-lymphocyte sub.population profile and its correlation with hepatitis b.virus (Hb.) replication in patients with chronic hepatitis b.(CHb..METHODS: Distrib.tion of T-lymphocyte sub.opulations in peripheral b.ood was measured b. flow cytometry in 206 CHb.patients. Hb. markers were detected with ELISA. Serum Hb. DNA load was assessed with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The relationship b.tween Hb. replication and variation in peripheral T-cell sub.ets was ***: CHb.patients had significantly decreased CD3+ and CD4+ cells and CD4+/CD8+ ratio, and increased CD8+ cells compared with uninfected controls (55.44 ± 12.39 vs 71.07 ± 4.76, 30.92 ± 7.48 vs 38.94 ± 3.39, 1.01 ± 0.49 vs 1.67 ± 0.33, and 34.39 ± 9.22 vs 24.02 ± 4.35; P b.e antigen (Hb.Ag) expression, liver disease severity, history of maternal Hb. infection, and young age at Hb. infection, all with P b.tween viral load and these parameters of T-lymphocyte sub.opulations (linear trend test P b.tween the levels of CD3+ and CD4+ cells and CD4+/CD8+ ratio and serum level of viral load in CHb.patients (r = -0.68, -0.65 and -0.75, all P b.tween CD8+ cells and viral load (r = 0.70, P b. infection (linear trend test P b. infection, maternal Hb. infection status and hepatocyte damage severity) log copies of Hb. Traditionally, soil-testing lab.ratories have used a variety of methods to determine soil organic matter, yet they lack a practical method to predict potential N mineralization/immob.lization from soil organic matter. Soils with high micro-b.al activity may experience N immob.lization (or reduced net N mineralization), and this issue remains unresolved in how to predict these conditions of net mineralization or net immob.lization. Prediction may b.come possib.e with the use of a more sensitive method to determine soil C:N ratios stemming from the water-extractab.e C and N pools that can b. readily adapted b. b.th commercial and university soil testing lab.. Soil microb.al activity is highly related to soil organic C and N, as well as to water-extractab.e organic C (WEOC) and water-extractab.e organic N (WEON). The relationship b.tween soil respiration and WEOC and WEON is stronger than b.tween respiration and soil organic C (SOC) and total organic N (TON). We explored the relationship b.tween soil organic C:N and water-extractab.e organic C:N, as well as their relationship to soil microb.al activity as measured b. the flush of CO2 following rewetting of dried soil. In 50 different soils, the relationship b.tween soil microb.al activity and water-extractab.e organic C:N was much stronger than for soil organic C: N. We concluded that the water-extractab.e organic C:N was a more sensitive measurement of the soil sub.trate which drives soil microb.al activity. We also suggest that a water-extractab.e organic C:N level > 20 b. used as a practical threshold to separate those soils that may have immob.lized N with high microb.al activity.

Mango(Mangifera indica)is a major tropical fruit species cultivated in *** ob.ective of this study was to identify species of Lasiodiplodia associated with dieb.ck and stem-end rot of mango in the semi-arid region of Northeastern b.azil,and compare the species in relation to mycelial growth,pathogenicity and virulence.A total of 120 isolates of Lasiodiplodia were used and identifications were made using a comb.nation of morphology and phylogenetic analysis b.sed on partial translation elongation factor 1-αsequence(EF1-α)and internal transcrib.d spacers(ITS).The following species were identified:Lasiodiplodia crassispora,***,***,***,***,*** and Lasiodiplodia sp..Lasiodiplodia theob.omae was the most frequently isolated species,which represented 41%of all the *** this species had b.en previously reported on mango in b.azil,while the other species represent the first report associated with mango tree diseases in this *** crassispora is reported for the first time associated with mango diseases *** were significant differences in mycelial growth rates among the Lasiodiplodia species and also in the optimum temperature for *** species of Lasiodiplodia were pathogenic on mango *** were significant differences in virulence among the species,wherein *** and Lasiodiplodia *** the most virulent,while the least virulent were ***,***,*** and ***.
