Validation of Monthly Data of Temperature and Precipitation over West Africa from Simulations of CORDEX-CORE Ensemble

We analysed nine simulations from dynamic downscaling to a horizontal resolution of approximately 25 km of three general circulation models (GCMs). These GCMs use three regional climate models (RCMs) that participated in the coordinated downscaling experiment (CORDEX-CORE). These simulations were compared to three datasets of reanalysis. The ERA5 for temperature at 2 metres and for precipitation, Climate Hazards Center InfraRed Precipitation with Stations (CHIRPS) and African Rainfall Climatology from the Famine Early Warning System (FEWS-ARC) were used. To give an overview of these nine model experiments, we presented and compared the results of the latter with the reanalysis taken into account for the period 1983 - 2005. The results indicated that the nine models correctly reproduced the temperature and rainfall in West Africa during the historical period. In the Guinean coast region, REMO-NorESM1 and RegCM4-MPI-MR models well simulated precipitation and temperature during the historical period. In the Savannah region, RegCM4-NorESM1, CCLM5-MPI-LR, REMO-NorESM1, CCLM5-NorESM1 and CCLM5-HadGEM2 model gave best result. In the Sahel region, the RegCM4-HadGEM2 model gave a good correlation. Using the Taylor diagram in the historical period, all CORDEX-CORE RCMs had a strong relationship with temperature.

Histone deacetylases,microRNA and leptin crosstalk in pancreatic cancer

Because pancreatic cancer(PC) historically has had poor prognosis and five year survival rates,it has been intensely *** of PC incidence and biology has shown a link between different risk factors such as smoking,alcoholism,and obesity and disease *** factors affecting PC include the epigenomic changes driven by DNA methylation and histone acetylation,and actions of microRNA inducing oncogenic or tumor suppressor *** have identified markers whose dysregulation seem to play important roles in PC *** markers involve classical histone deacetylases(HDAC),PC stem cell(PCSC),and *** this review,we discuss the role of several PC biomarkers,and the potential crosstalk between HDAC,microRNA,and leptin in PC *** expression of these molecules can increase proliferation,survival,PCSC,resistance to chemotherapy and tumor *** potential relationships between these molecules are further analyzed using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas and crosstalk pathways generated by the Pathway Studio Platform(Ariadne Genomics,Inc.).Oncogenic miRNA21 and tumor suppressor miRNA200 have been previously linked to leptin *** analysis of PC biopsies and signaling crosstalk suggests that the main adipokine leptin could affect the expression of microRNA and HDAC in *** analysis suggests that HDAC-microRNA-leptin signaling crosstalk may be a new target for PC therapy.

Malaria and Anemia among Pregnant Women in the Foumban Health District: West-Cameroon

Malaria is one of the deadliest endemic diseases in Africa. The causative agent of this disease, Plasmodium, contributes to severe complications such as anemia, particularly in vulnerable groups. In Cameroon, the health system aims to protect patients through the free distribution of long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets and intermittent preventive treatment for malaria. However, access to these interventions remains limited. The objective of our study was to determine the distribution of malaria in pregnancy and its association with anemia. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study targeting pregnant women attending consultations, selected by convenience sampling, from February to May 2021 in three major health facilities in the Foumban health district of West Cameroon. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to the pregnant women, results from malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), thick drop microscopy for malaria diagnosis, and blood counts. The prevalence of malaria and anemia was estimated, as well as the association between malaria infection and the occurrence of anemia. Results: A total of 395 (91.86%) out of 430 pregnant women were enrolled in the study. The prevalence of malaria and anemia was 5.06% and 30.37%, respectively. Anemia was diagnosed in 120 women (30.37%), including 73 (60.83%) with mild anemia, 46 (38.33%) with moderate anemia, and 1 (0.83%) with severe anemia. Among women with malaria, 8 (40%) had anemia. Malaria infection was found to be associated with an increased risk of developing mild anemia (OR = 1.80 [0.66 - 4.85]) and a decreased risk of developing moderate anemia (OR = 0.74 [0.16 - 3.33]), although these associations were not statistically significant. Conclusion: A relatively low malaria prevalence was registered in the study population while anemia was more prevalent. Lack of association between malaria and anemia may be linked to low malaria prevalence.

Development of a Technical Itinerary for the Production of Avocado (Persea américana Mill.) Seedlings with Biofertilizers

The cultivation of fruit trees generally requires a nursery phase during which the young seedlings are monitored and treated to improve their ability to adapt to the environment. This leads to the production of seedlings that are used to create orchards. It consists of four essential steps or operations: 1) The germination phase of the seeds in germinators for the production of rootstocks;2) Transplanting into pots or bags;3) Fertilisation in order to obtain seedlings of a satisfactory vigour (stem diameter) ready for grafting. The nursery phase requires a good understanding and mastery of plant regeneration and fertilisation techniques. In Cameroon, the demand for avocado (Persea americana) fruits is increasing, but the supply is not keeping up with this demand. After a summary monograph on the production practices of avocado seedlings in the Yaounde area, this work aims to optimise the aforementioned three steps in order to obtain seedlings of sufficient sizes for grafting. Three factors are considered in this study: 1) The substrate (Substrate), whose effects are evaluated by the germination rate (GR), the daily average germination (DAG) and the root volume of seedlings (RootV). 2) The transplanting date (TransD), determined by considering three dates including 40 (Trans40), 65 (Trans65) and 75 (Trans75) days after sowing, and 3) Fertilisation using biological fertilisers, evaluated by testing four fertilisation levels, Fert1 (10 gr of 20-10-10 plus 10 gr fowl droppings), Fert2 (Acaulospora tuberculata), Fert3 (Gigaspora margarita) and Fert4 (Mixed mycorrhizal strains of Gigaspora margarita and Acaulospora tuberculata). This third factor is evaluated by growth parameters including leaf area (LeafA), chlorophyll index (ChlorInd), gain in Plant height (GainPltH) and plant diameter (GainPltD).
