Biology and Physiology of <I>colletotrichum acutatum</I>Strains causing Strawberry’s Anthracnose

Seven colletotrichum acutatum strains isolated from strawberries were cultivated on various culture media and tested in vitro and in vivo on Fragaria x ananassa for anthracnose symptoms. PDA caused an optimum growth of all isolates, MEA, ML and Strawberry allowed a good but not optimal growth. czapeck, Sabouraud and the organic medium from potato gave the lowest growth rate of all isolates. PDA allowed a good sporulation of isolates follow-up by strawberry, MEA;in contrast, ML, czapeck and Sabouraud gave a low sporulation. The fungal development is maximal at 25°c and 27°c for all the isolates studied. No growth was observed at 5°c and 37°c. The studied strains developed at all pH values. They didn’t develop at 0.6, 0.65 and 0.7 aw but mycelial growth was perfect at 1 and 0.95 aw. The in vitro test of the pathogenicity caused by c. acutatum strains on strawberry’s leaves showed an increasing percentage of infection with time and different infection rates among c. acutatum strains, strain ca6 having a pathogenic power very high compared to the other isolates. After in vivo inoculation and incubation of the seedlings, all isolates caused severe symptoms related to anthracnose on leaflets and petioles of the studied strawberry plants.

Geochemical Exploration of Sediments in the Toumodi Region: Origin of Metasediments, Geological Dynamics, and Perspectives for Regional Geological History

The region of Toumodi, located in the heart of the West African craton, is renowned for its geological complexity. This geochemical study delves into the origin of siliciclastic sediments and the geodynamic context of their formation. The study reveals that Toumodi’s sediments exhibit an intriguing mineralogical composition, with indications of a dual source of parent rocks, one rich in quartz and the other poor in quartz. Furthermore, geochemical analysis highlights a variation in sediment maturity from west to east, indicating the coexistence of distinct geotectonic environments in the region. In the eastern part of the Toumodi region, a passive margin is defined characterized by sediments with an abundance of quartz, while to the west, an active margin is observed with sediments having a lower quartz content. This arrangement suggests the presence of a potential suture zone in the region. This geological complexity underscores the importance of further research to better understand the origin of sediments and the processes that have shaped them. Moreover, this study sheds new light on the fascinating geology of Toumodi, but many questions remain to be explored.

Interventional Radiology in côte d’Ivoire: Analysis and Assessment of the Radiological Risk of the Surgical Team

Ionizing radiation is widely used in medical practice for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. However, they are not devoid of adverse health effects on exposed operators. Therefore, we propose to assess the radiological risk of the interventional radiology team of the International Polyclinic of Indénié of Abidjan during the procedures of Embolization of uterine fibromyomas. The effective and equivalent doses to the extremities and crystals were estimated by TLD dosimeters positioned at different body areas selected on the basis of a radiological analysis of the exposure of personnel during five procedures. The analysis of fluoroscopic and record times showed variability in or an average fluoroscopy time of 32.37 min with extremes of 25.14 to 56.32 min;average record time of 0.52 min with extremes of 0.12 min to 1 min. The annual effective doses were respectively, 4.04 mSv, 3.42 mSv, 2.84 mSv;2.28 mSv, in the Radiologist (R), Operator Assistant (O2);Anesthesiologist (A2), Manipulator (M2). The annual equivalent doses to the radiologist’s predominant extremities and lenses were left index and left lens with values of 37.07 mSv and 9.46 mSv. The estimated doses in our study are reassuring from a regulatory point of view of dose limits. The results of our work have shown no significant short-term danger to the health of personnel.

Modeling and Optimization of Two clays Acidic Activation for Phosphate Ions Removal in Aqueous Solution by Response Surface Methodology

This work deals with phosphate ions removal in aqueous solution by adsorption carried out using two clays, both in activated form. One, non-swelling clay, rich in kaolinite, is associated with illite and quartz. The other, swelling, richer in montmorillonite, is associated with kaolinite, illite and quartz. Seven factors including these two clays were taken into account in a series of experimental designs in order to model and optimize the acidic activation process favoring a better phosphate removal. In addition to the choice of clay nature, the study was also interested in the identification of the mineral acid, between hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid, which would promote this acidic activation. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used for this purpose by sequentially applying Plackett and Burman Design and Full Factorial Design (FD) for screening. Then, a central composite design (ccD) was used for modeling the activation process. A mathematical surface model has been successfully established. Thus, the best acidic activation conditions were obtained by activating the montmorillonite clay with a 2N sulfuric acid solution, in an acid/clay mass ratio of 7.5 at 100°c for 16H. The phosphate removal maximum rate obtained was estimated at 89.32% ± 0.86%.

Synthesis, characterization and DFT Studies of Two Zinc(II) complexes Based on 2-Isopropylimidazole

Two novel coordination compounds, [Zn(L)2(OOcH)2] (1) and [Zn(L)3(OcHO)](OcHO)]·H2O (2) (where L = 2-isopropylimidazole, c6H10N2) have been prepared by reaction of 2-isopropylimidazole with zinc(II) formate at room temperature using toluene as solvent. These compounds were characterized by elemental and thermal analyses, IR, 1HNMR and 13cNMR spectroscopies, single crystal X-ray diffraction and DFT studies. The Zn centers in 1 and 2 adopt pseudo-tetrahedral coordination geometries. compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system P2/c space group whereas compound 2 crystallizes in the P-1 space group of the triclinic crystal system. Several types of hydrogen intra-/intermolecular interactions are observed in these materials and extend into a two-dimensional leaf like network in 1 and a two-dimensional lattice of rectilinear pillars in 2. compounds 1 and 2 were also optimized and their frontier molecular orbitals, global reactivity descriptors, molecular electrostatic potential, natural bond orbitals were investigated using density functional theory (DFT). In fact the induced structural differences from complex 1 to complex 2 led to the reduction of the frontier molecular orbital energy gap by 1.338 eV and a decrease of the chemical hardness by 0.669 eV.

Barcelona clinic Liver cancer classification and Treatment of Hepatocellular carcinoma in a côte d’Ivoire University Hospital

context/Objectives: Hepatocellular carcinoma occurs mainly and increasingly in developing countries, where the prognosis is particularly poor. The Barcelona clinic Liver cancer classification is used to guide the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this retrospective study was to describe the Barcelona clinic Liver cancer classification and the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma in a University Hospital in côte d’Ivoire. Methods: Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma hospitalized in the hepato-gastroenterology unit of the University Hospital of Yopougon from 01 January 2012 to 30 June 2017 were included. The diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma was based on the presence of hepatic nodules on the abdominal ultrasound scan, typical images with the helical scanner associated or not with an increase of the α-fetoprotein higher than 200 ng/ml or with histology. Demographic, clinical, biological and radiological data were determined at the time of diagnosis. Patients were classified according to the Barcelona clinic Liver cancer classification. Their treatment was specified. Results: There were 258 patients whose median age was 48.1 years. Viral hepatitis B virus was the primary cause of hepatocellular carcinoma in 64.7% of cases. The severity of the underlying cirrhosis was child-Pugh A in 12.1%, B in 63.6% and c in 24.3% of cases. The median size of the tumor was 63 mm. The α-fetoprotein level was higher than 200 mg/ml in 56.03% of cases. The Eastern cooperative Oncology Group (EcOG)/World Health Organization (WHO) system was ≥2 in 82.9%. The Barcelona clinic Liver cancer classification was A in 1.3%, B in 0%, c in 55.2% and D in 43.5% of patients. There was no transplantation or hepatic resection. Very few patients (1.9%) received radio-frequency curative therapy. The treatment was predominantly symptomatic in 97.8% of patients. During hospitalization 43.7% of patients died. conclusion: Hepatocellular carcinoma occurs on a liver with severe cirrhosis

Measurement of Natural Radioactivity in Lagoon Sands Used in construction in the District of Abidjan, côte d’Ivoire

Sand is an important natural material for the construction of houses, work buildings and other public spaces. This work, which is one of the first contributions to the environmental quality of construction materials, concerns the measurement of natural radioactivity in the lagoon sands collected in the district of Abidjan. Nineteen (19) samples of these sands are analyzed by gamma-ray spectrometry equipped with HPGe detector. The mean values obtained for 226Ra, 232Th and 40K are respectively 7.76 ± 1.84 Bq·kg-1, 5.21 ± 1.36 Bq·kg-1, and 217.31 ± 5.03 Bq·kg-1. The estimated average value of radium equivalent (Raeq) is 31.94 Bq·kg-1. The results show that the average values obtained are far lower than the global limits of 35, 30, and 400 Bq·kg-1 for the concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K, respectively, and 370 Bq·kg-1 for the equivalent radium established by the United Nations Scientiﬁc committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNScEAR). Therefore, the use of the analyzed lagoon sand samples in the different construction sectors should not cause serious radiological effects on the populations living in the District of Abidjan. Our results provide new data on building materials radioactivity in côte d’Ivoire and all over the World. They can also be used as a reference for future work.

Influence of Active charcoal and Plant Position on Some Morphological Parameters of a Local Variety of Okra (<i>Abelmoschus caillei</i>)

Okra is a plant rich in nutrients and is very well consumed in côte d’Ivoire. Despite its many benefits, the production of this vegetable is still weak in our country. The reasons for this include the inadequate selection of varieties, the high cost of inputs and the poverty of the soil for its cultivation. One of the alternatives for sustained production is to solve the problem of soil fertility. In the case of our work, the aim is to improve the yield of okra. To achieve this goal, experiments were undertaken to evaluate the impact of activated charcoal on morphological parameters of a local okra variety. For this purpose, the charcoal used was activated in three different times (activation time equal to 0 days, 15 days and 30 days). The experimental device used is a split-plot with three repetitions, each comprising 12 elementary plots. The various charcoals were buried the same day. Then, the seedling was done with two positions including outside position and inside position. Observations were made on 360 plants. An analysis of the variances was carried out on the morphological parameters. Fruit mass is the variable most influenced by activated charcoal. Thus, the greatest value of the mass was obtained with the charcoal cA0, with outside position.

Assessment of Equivalent Radium Activity and Annual Effective Dose Due to Building Materials in côte D’Ivoire by Gamma Spectrometry: cases of cement

Radioactivity is a natural phenomenon present in the universe. So, because of human life solidarity with a habitat, we are permanently in contact, especially through building materials. The objective of this work is the determination of the used cement radioactivity level in the buildings in cote d'Ivoire. Thus, samples of grey and white cement currently used on Ivorian territory were taken. In order to determine the radioactivity level of this cement, samples were analyzed by using gamma spectrometry chain which contains a NaI (Tl) scintillation detector designed by the German manufacturer LD-DIDAcTIc, coupled to a multichannel analyzer (AMc) using a cassy Lab software. Thus, the specific activity of the primordial radionuclides 226Ra, 232Th and 40K, was able to be determined. The average values obtained are 29.66 Bq/kg, 34.88 Bq/kg and 178.424 Bq/kg respectively for 226Ra, 232Th and 40K. All average values are below the limit values recommended by UNScEAR. However, we evaluated the radiological parameters such as the equivalent radium activity and the annual effective dose in order to translate the specific activity in terms of harmfulness. Values obtained for these parameters are below those recommended by IcRP and UNScEAR. These results show that the risk incurred by the use of these different brands of cement is low.

Refractory Hard Alloys Elaborated by casting of Ternary (co, Ni Fe)-30cr-2.5 to 5 wt% c compositions

Three series of ternary alloys of the {M-30cr-xc}-type with M = co, Ni or Fe and x ranging from 2.5 to 5 wt% were elaborated by casting. Their microstructure characterizations by XRD and SEM show that very high volume fractions in chromium carbides (even more than 50%) may be obtained in a metallic matrix by this way. However graphite may also appear in very low quantities in the carbon-richest alloys. The hardness increases with the carbon content (up to 1000 Hv30kg) but it may be a little lowered when graphite is also present. The results show that very hard alloys may be simply obtained by casting of rather cheap elements.
