Comparative profile for COVID-19 cases from China and North America: Clinical symptoms, comorbidities and disease biomarkers

BACKGROUND Large inter-individual and inter-population differences in the susceptibility to and outcome of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 or coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)have been *** these differences and how they influence vulnerability to infection and disease severity is critical to public health *** To analyze and compare the profile of COVID-19 cases between China and North America as two regions that differ in many environmental,host and healthcare factors related to disease *** We conducted a meta-analysis to examine and compare demographic information,clinical symptoms,comorbidities,disease severity and levels of disease biomarkers of COVID-19 cases from clinical studies and data from China(105 studies)and North America(19 studies).RESULTS COVID-19 patients from North America were older than their Chinese counterparts and with higher male:Female ***,cough,fatigue and dyspnea were the most common clinical symptoms in both study regions(present in about 30%to 75%of the cases in both regions).Meta-analysis for the prevalence of comorbidities(such as obesity,hypertension,diabetes,cardiovascular diseases,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,cancer,and chronic kidney diseases)in COVID-19 patients were all significantly more prevalent in North America compared to *** were positively correlated with age but at a significantly younger age range in China compared to North *** most prevalent infection outcome was acute respiratory distress syndrome which was 2-fold more frequent in North America than in *** of C-reactive protein were 4.5-fold higher in the North American cases than in cases from *** The differences in the profile of COVID-19 cases from China and North America may relate to differences in environmental-,host-and healthcare-related factors between the two *** inter-population differences-together with intrapopulation variability-u

Probe Attack Detection Using an Improved Intrusion Detection System

The novel SoftwareDefined Networking(SDN)architecture potentially resolves specific challenges arising from rapid internet growth of and the static nature of conventional networks to manage organizational business requirements with distinctive ***,such benefits lead to a more adverse environment entailing network breakdown,systems paralysis,and online banking fraudulence and *** one of the most common and dangerous threats in SDN,probe attack occurs when the attacker scans SDN devices to collect the necessary knowledge on system susceptibilities,which is thenmanipulated to undermine the entire ***,high performance,and real-time systems prove pivotal in successful goal attainment through feature selection to minimize computation time,optimize prediction performance,and provide a holistic understanding of machine learning *** the extension of astute machine learning algorithms into an Intrusion Detection System(IDS)through SDN has garnered much scholarly attention within the past decade,this study recommended an effective IDS under the Grey-wolf optimizer(GWO)and Light Gradient Boosting Machine(Light-GBM)classifier for probe attack *** InSDN dataset was employed to train and test the proposed IDS,which is deemed to be a novel benchmarking dataset in *** proposed IDS assessment demonstrated an optimized performance against that of peer IDSs in probe attack detection within *** results revealed that the proposed IDS outperforms the state-of-the-art IDSs,as it achieved 99.8%accuracy,99.7%recall,99.99%precision,and 99.8%F-measure.

Background Schistosomiasis is highly endemic in sub-Saharan Africa and frequently imported to Europe. Male urogenital manifestations are often neglected. We aimed to ascertain the prevalence of genitourinary clinical signs and symptoms among long-term African migrants in a non-endemic European country using a serology *** We carried out a prospective, community-based cross-sectional study of adult male migrants from sub-Saharan Africa living in *** serology tests and microscopic urine examinations were carried out, and clinical data were obtained from an electronic medical record search and a structured *** We included 388 adult males, mean age 43.5 years [Standard Deviation (SD) = 12.0, range: 18–76]. The median time since migration to the European Union was 17 [Interquartile range (IQR): 11–21] years. The most frequent country of origin was Senegal (N = 179, 46.1%). Of the 338, 147 (37.6%) tested positive forSchistosoma. Parasite eggs were present in the urine of only 1.3%. Nine genitourinary clinical items were significantly associated with positiveSchistosoma serology results: pelvic pain (45.2%;OR = 1.57, 95%CI: 1.0–2.4), pain on ejaculation (14.5%;OR = 1.85, 95%CI: 1.0–3.5), dyspareunia (12.4%;OR = 2.45, 95%CI: 1.2–5.2), erectile dysfunction (9.5%;OR = 3.10, 95%CI: 1.3–7.6), self-reported episodes of infertility (32.1%;OR = 1.69, 95%CI: 1.0–2.8), haematuria (55.2%;OR = 2.37, 95%CI: 1.5–3.6), dysuria (52.1%;OR = 2.01, 95%CI: 1.3–3.1), undiagnosed syndromic STIs (5.4%), and orchitis (20.7%;OR = 1.81, 95%CI: 1.0–3.1). Effect of nano powder(Al2O3-CaO)addition on the mechanical properties of the polymer blend matrix composite

This work describes the preparation and study of the properties of composite nanoparticles prepared by the sol-gel method which consists of two materials(Al2 O3-CaO),and study the effect of these nanoparticles on the mechanical behavior of a polymer blend(EP 4%+96%UPE).The powder was evaluated by X-ray diffraction analysis,scanning electron microscopy analysis(SEM),particle size analysis,and energy dispersive X-ray analysis(EDX).The mechanical behavior of the co mposite material was assessed by tensile test,bending test and hardness *** evaluation results of the composite nanoparticles showed good distribution of the chemical composition between aluminum oxide and calcium oxide,smoothness in particles’size at calcination in high and low temperatures,formation of different shapes of nanoparticles and different(kappa and gamma)phases of the Al2 O *** results of mechanical behavior tests showed marked improvement in the mechanical properties of the resulted composite material,especially at 1.5%,compared with polymer blend material without nano powder *** tensile properties improved about(24 and 14.9)%and bending resistance about(23.5 and16.8)%and hardness by(25 and 22)%when adding particles of size(63.8 and 68.6)***,this reflects the efficiency of the proposed method to manufacture the nanoco mposite powder and the possibility of using this powder as a strengthening material for the composite materials and using these composite materials in bio applications,especially in the fabrication of artificial limbs.

The Response of the Earth's Lower Ionosphere to Gamma-Ray Solar Flares and their Associated X-ray

The present work aims to explore the impact of solar gamma-ray fiares(GRFs),detected by the Fermi-Large Area Telescope(LAT),and their associated X-ray fiares(XRFs)on the Earth’s lower *** data of ionospheric parameter fmin were collected from the Yamagawa mid-latitude ionosonde station in *** most of the GRFs used in this study are associated with soft X-ray(SXR)emissions,detected by the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite(GOES),we classified them into three types:simultaneous(S),delayed(D)and not associated(N),refiecting the phase occurrence of the solar ***,the ionospheric D layer responds strongly to XRFs more than *** temporal profiles of the ionospheric parameter fmin show distinct behaviors as a response to the various GRF *** the case of the S-type,a single strong peak,with an average value of 5.2 MHz,emanates in the fmin profile within an average interval of time of less than half an *** the case of the D-type,two successive peaks appear in the fmin profile,with an average value of 6.0 MHz for the second peak through a time interval of one hour after the onset of gamma-ray(GR)*** response of the fmin parameter to the N-type fiares appears as a single peak with an average value of 4.8 MHz within about an *** notice that the difference between the fmin peak values and the corresponding reference ones(dfmin)is more convenient and representative than the fmin values,where the median GR fiux of the S-,D-and N-types tends to increase as the average dfmin increases.

Evaluation of the performance of demand control ventilation system for school buildings located in the hot climate of Saudi Arabia

The advantages of the demand control ventilation system(DCV)have been widely discussed in previous research ***,the literature has not addressed the benefits of DCV on controlling indoor CO_(2)concentration and minimizing cooling energy consumption for school buildings located in extremely hot ***,this paper contributes to the development of DCV and mechanical ventilation systems through a comprehensive evaluation of these systems to maintain acceptable indoor air quality(IAQ)while minimizing cooling energy demands for school buildings located in the harsh hot climate of Saudi *** evaluation is based on a calibrated whole-building energy model and validated IAQ predictions using field data obtained from a school case study in *** results of this research study confirm that hourly and sub-hourly monitoring of indoor CO_(2)concentration is required to ensure optimal design and operation of the ventilation systems in *** addition,the analyses indicate that a 13%increase in cooling energy end-use can result for any additional 0.1 students/m^(2)density increase in the ***,the energy penalties related to ventilation needs can be reduced by up to 25%using DCV instead of conventional mechanical ventilation systems for school buildings located in Saudi Arabia’s hot climate.
