New series of Ag, Cd(II), Ce(III), Co(II), Cr(III), Fe(III), Ni(II) and Pb(II) complexes with (E)-N-(4-(2- hydroxybenzylideneamino) phenylsulfonyl) {S.S} have been synthesized. These compounds have been characterized by different physico-chemical techniques like, melting point, elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility and mass spectral analysis. The metal ions concentrations have been determined using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Spectroscopic studies suggest coordination most of complexes in a regular octahedral arrangement in 2L:1M molar ratio by two N azomethine and two OH phenolic from Schiff base {S.S} in the form of [ML2(H2O)2], M metal, L ligand {S.S}. Complexes have been screened for their antibacterial {Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa)}, {Gram positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Sterptococcus pneumoniae)} and antifungal (Aspergillus fumigates and Candida albicans) showing promising antimicrobial biological activity.

Objective:To highlight some clinical and epidemiological features of dengue ***: All patients who were admitted to hospitals in Holly Mecca City,Saudi Arabia and were confirmed as dengue fever(DF) or dengue hemorrhagic fever(DHF) were included in this study. The data were collected from patient files and through direct interview with patients or their *** were followed through their hospital *** laboratory investigations were done and diagnosis was confirmed by ***:Most of cases admitted in stable condition(94.37%) and only one case(1.41%) ***-1 and 3 types were the prevalent dengue viruses and cases in age group 16-44 were the most frequent(70.40%).The most common symptoms was fever reported from all cases followed by headache(74.60%),myalgia and anorexia(67.60%),back pain(59.20%) and chills(54.90%).DF represented(60.57%) of the cases while DHF represented(39.43%).About half of cases had underground water tanks for human use,5.60%had over house roof water tanks and 43.70%had both types,16.90% of these tanks were *** 70.00%of cases reported presence of small collection of water nearby houses and 46.80%reported the presence of mosquitoes within their ***:Most dengue fever cases might be endogenous in origin due to prevalence of mosquitoes and their breeding places within the houses and in nearby *** of mosquitoes and their breeding places will contribute to prevention of dengue fever.

Combining Committee-Based Semi-Supervised Learning and Active Learning

Many data mining applications have a large amount of data but labeling data is usually difficult, expensive, or time consuming, as it requires human experts for annotation. Semi-supervised learning addresses this problem by using unlabeled data together with labeled data in the training process. Co-Training is a popular semi-supervised learning algorithm that has the assumptions that each example is represented by multiple sets of features （views） and these views are sufficient for learning and independent given the class. However, these assumptions axe strong and are not satisfied in many real-world domains. In this paper, a single-view variant of Co-Training, called Co-Training by Committee （CoBC） is proposed, in which an ensemble of diverse classifiers is used instead of redundant and independent views. We introduce a new labeling confidence measure for unlabeled examples based on estimating the local accuracy of the committee members on its neighborhood. Then we introduce two new learning algorithms, QBC-then-CoBC and QBC-with-CoBC, which combine the merits of committee-based semi-supervised learning and active learning. The random subspace method is applied on both C4.5 decision trees and 1-nearest neighbor classifiers to construct the diverse ensembles used for semi-supervised learning and active learning. Experiments show that these two combinations can outperform other non committee-based ones.

Background:Nasal continuous positive airway pressure(NCPAP)is frequently used in preterm ***,there is no consensus on when and how to wean them from *** sources:Based on recent publications,we have reviewed the criteria of readiness-to-wean and factors affecting weaning success.A special focus is placed on the methods of weaning from NCPAP in preterm ***:Practical points of when and how to wean from NCPAP in preterm infants are *** infants are ready to be weaned from NCPAP when they are stable on a low NCPAP pressure with no(or minimal)oxygen *** used to wean from NCPAP include:sudden weaning of NCPAP,gradual decrease of NCPAP pressure,graded-time-off NCPAP(cycling),weaning to high or low flow nasal cannula,and a combination of these *** best strategy for weaning is yet to be ***-off NCPAP increases the duration of NCPAP and length of hospital stay without beneficial effect on success of *** decrease of NCPAP pressure is more physiological and better tolerated than cycling-off ***:Further studies are needed to reach a consensus regarding the optimal timing and the best method for weaning from NCPAP in preterm infants.

Novel CYP1B1 mutations and a possible prognostic use for surgical management of congenital glaucoma

AIM: To identify CYP1B1 gene mutations and evaluate their possible role as a prognostic factor for success rates in the surgical management of Egyptian congenital glaucoma ***: Totally 42 eyes of 29 primary congenital glaucoma patients were operated on with combined trabeculotomy/trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C and followed up at 1 d, 1 wk, 1, 6 and 12 mo postoperatively. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes. Coding regions of CYP1B1 gene were amplified using 13 pairs of primers, screened for mutations using single-strand conformation polymorphism followed by sequencing of both strands. Efficacy of the operation was graded as either a success [maintaining intraocular pressure(IOP) less than 21 mm Hg with or without antiglaucoma medication], or a failure(IOP more than 21 mm Hg with topical antiglaucoma medications). RESULTS: Seven novel mutations out of a total of 15 different mutations were found in the CYP1B1 genes of 14 patients(48.2%). The presence of CYP1B1 gene mutations did not correlate with the failure of the surgery(P=0.156, odds ratio=3.611, 95%CI, 0.56 to 22.89); while the positive consanguinity strongly correlated with failure of the initial procedure(P=0.016, odds ratio=11.25, 95%CI, 1.57 to 80.30). However, the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed a significantly lower time of IOP control in the subgroup with mutations in CYP1B1 versus the congenital primary glaucoma group without mutations(log rank test, P=0.015).CONCLUSION: Seven new CYP1B1 mutations are identified in Egyptian patients. Patients harboring confirmed mutations suffered from early failure of the initial surgery. CYP1B1 mutations could be considered as a prognostic factor for surgery in primary congenital glaucoma.

Objective:To determine the prevalent pathogens responsible for spontaneous bacterial peritonitis(SBP) and their sensitivity pattern,to test the efficiency of different culture techniques in microbial isolation,and to study the diagnostic predictors of such ***:One hundred eight SBP episodes from 92 adult patients were compared to 88 cirrhotic ascites patients cross - matched with age and sex without *** fluid was subjected to cytological,biochemical examination and culture on both conventional and blood culture bottles at the bedside for bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility ***:The prevalence of SBP was 25.02%.Logistic regression analysis revealed that;previous SBP episode,low ascitic fluid protein levels, high serum creatinine and low serum albumin levels were the independent significant predictors of *** forty - five per cent of SBP episodes were detected by conventional culture compared to 73.15%by modified technique with a significant *** - negative bacteria were the cause of SBP in 46(58.23%) culture positive *** coli and Staphylococcus aureus were the most commonly detected organisms. Skin wounds can lead to numerous complications with dangerous health *** this work,magnetite nanoparticles were doped with different concentrations of antimicrobial silver(Ag)ions and incorporated into the electrospun nanofibrous ε-polycaprolactone(PCL)*** and scaffolds with various Ag contents were characterized using a range of physicochemical *** entered magnetite as cations and preferentially positioned at tetrahedral sites,introducing lattice distortions and topographic *** of the structure due to accommodation of Ag expanded the lattice in the bulk and contracted it on the surface,where broadened distribution of Fe-O coordinations was *** spin canting and diminishing the double exchange interaction through altered distribution of ferric and ferrous ions,Ag softened the magnetism of *** making the nanoparticle structure more defective,Ag modified the interface with the polymer and promoted the protrusion of the nanoparticles from the surface of the polymeric nanofibers,thus increasing their roughness and hydrophilicity,with positive repercussions on cell adhesion and *** the viability of human melanocytes and the antibacterial activity against *** and *** increased with the concentration of Ag in the magnetite phase of the *** wound healing rate in rats also increased in direct proportion with the concentration of Ag in the magnetite phase,and no abnormalities in the dermal and epidermal tissues were visible on day 10 in the treatment *** results imply an excellent potential of these composite nanofibrous scaffolds for use as wound dressings and in other reconstructive skin therapies.
