Background: Odontoid fractures are specific types of cervical fractures that show many challenges in their management. There are several types of Odontoid fractures with different modes of stability. There is no definite widely accepted way of management of Type II fractures among spine surgeons. There is a high rate of delayed or non-union of Odontoid fracture cases that are managed conservatively which may lead to dangerous complications. If non-union occurs, the patient should undergo surgical intervention as early as possible to avoid neurological deterioration. Objective: To demonstrate the value of intra-operative reduction and posterior stabilization of atlanto-axial junction in cases of non-union old Odontoid fractures and their outcome. The study was also to check for criteria associated with a favorable outcome and if posterior decompression will be associated with a better outcome. Patients and Methods: 12 patients of old neglected Odontoid fractures following conservative management and complicated by non-union were operated through intra-operative reduction with posterior stabilization and fixation of atlanto-axial junction at Al-Azhar University Hospitals during the period starting from June 2016 till the end of December 2019 using Screws and Rods. Intra-operative reduction under C-Arm X-ray and firm stabilization were aimed in all cases. Posterior cord decompression was an option in selected 4 patients with severe cord compression. Both intra-operative, post-operative radiological and clinical outcomes were assessed. Results: Good intra-operative reduction and alignment of fractured Odontoid process were obtained in all cases with use of 4 screws and 2 rods (2 screws and 1 rod on each side) in 11 cases and with using 2 screws and 1 rod (unilateral fixation) in one case. Good clinical outcome was obtained in all patients with improvement of pre-operative condition except in 3 patients

Background: Anterior Corpus Callosotomy is a palliative treatment for drug-resistant generalized or multifocal epilepsy patients where focus excision is not an option for management. Callosotomy prevents propagation of epileptic discharge from one cerebral hemisphere to the other. Objective: To describe Al-Azhar University Hospitals experience and clinical outcome of Anterior Corpus Callosotomy for management of drug-resistant generalized epilepsy patients as an inexpensive palliative method. Patients and Methods: In this study, there are 15 patients admitted to Neurosurgery Department in Al-Azhar University Hospitals with drug-resistant generalized epilepsy. These patients were not candidates for lesionectomy. They were managed by anterior two thirds Corpus Callosotomy between February 2017 and December 2019. They were followed at outpatient clinic for at least 14 months. Clinical outcome regarding seizure control was assessed using Engel classification. Results: All 15 patients in this study underwent anterior two thirds corpus callosotomy and followed for at least 14 months. The post-operative improvement of seizure frequency has been evaluated using Engel outcome scale with 12 patients (80%) of the patients becoming Engel class II and 3 patients (20%) becoming Engel class III. Only 3 patients (20%) had minor transient postoperative complications;one patient (6.67%) had contra-lateral lower limb heaviness Grade 4 which was transient, one patient (6.67%) had contra-lateral lower limb Jacksonian focal fits and one patient (6.67%) had behavioral changes for one month. Conclusion: Corpus callosotomy is a palliative procedure and inexpensive method for management of patients with intractable focal with generalization and generalized drug-resistant epilepsy who are not suitable for resective surgery and with good outcome.

Backgrounds: Recent advances in post Kidney Transplantation (KT) care, have led to a dramatic improvement in short-term outcomes in order to achieve transplantation tolerance;including the ideal tool for clinical monitoring & new therapeutic line. This study was undertaken to analyze the CD62L in Kidney Transplant Recipients (KTRs) and to investigate its efficacy as a marker of good graft survival. Methods: Fifty pediatric KTRs and 12 healthy controls were included in the study, the frequency of T cell activation markers;CD62L was measured with flow cytometry after renal transplantation. Clinical, laboratory, immunosuppressive therapy data and graft function of transplant recipients were collected and correlated with their CD62L peripheral blood percentage. Results: The circulating CD62L% was significantly more in transplant recipients than controls (44.74% ± 17.45% vs. 33.36% ± 11.54%, p = 0.02). CD 62L% was more frequent in recipients of living related donors (p = 0.05), positively correlated with donor age (p = 0.04, r = -0.29*) and CD 4% (p = 0.000, r = 0.615). CD26L% did not show significant association with acute rejection or chronic rejection (p = 0.432, p = 0.91 respectively) or with graft function (serum creatinine or eGFR, p = 0.086, p = 0.988 respectively) or immunosuppressive medications. Conclusion: Peripheral CD62L% is increased after KT than healthy controls, however, it cannot reflect either clinical (serum creatinine and eGFR) or pathological renal graft injury. CD62L surface marker needs more analysis for its potential diagnostic and therapeutic implications as a Treg cell activation marker.

Thyroid hormones play essential roles in spermatogenesis,but their effects on infertile males remain poorly *** study aimed to evaluate the impact of combining carbimazole(CBZ)with vitamin E(VE)on testicular injury induced by experimental hyperthyroidism in adult albino rats,focusing on oxidative,inflammatory,and apoptotic *** this experimental study,64 adult male albino Wistar rats were divided into eight groups:Group I(control-untreated),Group II(CBZ-control),Group III(VE-control),Group IV(CBZ+VE-control),Group V(levothyroxine-induced testicular injury),Group VI(levothyroxine+CBZ-treated),Group VII(levothyroxine+VE-treated),and Group VIII(levothyroxine+CBZ+VE-treated).The study was conducted in the Faculty of Medicine,Suez Canal University(Ismailia,Egypt).After cervical decapitation,both testes and epididymis were examined histopathologically and *** differences were observed among groups concerning malondialdehyde(MDA),glutathione(GSH),superoxide dismutase(SOD),and catalase(CAT;all P<0.001).Polymerase chain reaction analysis showed significant differences in tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-10(IL-10),Bcl-2-associated X protein(BAX),B-cell lymphoma 2 protein(Bcl2),p53,Caspase-3,Caspase-8,Caspase-9,and nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB)mRNA levels(all P<0.001).Hyperthyroid group treated with CBZ alone(Group VI)exhibited testicular side effects,affecting seminiferous tubules and ***,the Group VIII showed improved spermatogenesis and a decrease in testicular side *** addition of VE to the treatment of hyperthyroid rats with CBZ reduced testicular side effects and seminiferous tubular affection when potentially improving *** research is needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms fully.

Magnesium-lithium hybrid ion batteries have emerged as a new class of energy storage systems owing to dendrite free cycling of magnesium anode and possibility of practice of numerous conventional lithium *** present work,we used hybrid ion strategy to analyze the performance of lithium titanate based lithium cathode,magnesium metal anode,and all-phenyl complex(APC)electrolytes at different temperatures(25℃,10℃,0℃,-10℃,and-20℃).The hybrid ion battery exhibited excellent rate performance(228 m Ah g^(-1)/20 m A g^(-1) and 163 mAh g^(-1)/1000 mA g^(-1))with stable voltage plateaus at 0.90 and 0.75 V,which corresponds to specific energy of 178 Wh kg^(-1) at room temperature(25℃).Experimental results revealed that APC-THF solutions have strong potential to suppress the freezing of electrolyte solutions owing to low boiling point of *** low temperature electrochemical testing revealed the reversible capacities of 213.4,165.5,143.8,133.2 and 78.56 mAh g^(-1) at 25,10,0,-10,and-20℃,***,ex-situ XRD,SEM,and EIS tests were carried out to understand the reaction kinetics of both Mg2+and Li+ions inside the lithium titanate *** hope this work will shed light on low temperature prospective of electrochemical devices for use in cold environments.
