Assessing the response of dryland barley yield to climate variability in semi-arid regions,Iran

Precipitation and temperature are the most abiotic factors that greatly impact the yield of crop,particularly in ***,as the main cereal is predominantly cultivated in dryland and the livelihood of smallholders depends on the production of this crop,particularly in arid and semi-arid *** study aimed to investigate the response of the grain yield of dryland barley to temperature and precipitation variations at annual,seasonal and monthly scales in seven counties of East and West Azerbaijan provinces in northwestern Iran during *** index(HI)was calculated and its relationship with dryland barley yield was evaluated at annual and monthly *** results showed that the minimum,maximum and mean temperatures increased by 0.19℃/a,0.11℃/a and 0.10℃/a,respectively,while annual precipitation decreased by 0.80 mm/a during *** in study area has become drier by 0.22/a in annual HI during the study *** effects of increasing temperature on the grain yield of dryland barley were more severe than the positive effects of increasing ***,weather variations in April and may were related more to the grain yield of dryland barley than those in other *** grain yield of dryland barley was more drastically affected by the variation of annual minimum temperature comparing with other weather ***,our findings illustrated that the grain yield of dryland barley increased by 0.01 t/hm^(2) for each unit increase in annual HI during ***,any increase in the monthly HI led to crop yield improvement in the study area,particularly in the drier counties,i.e.,myaneh,Tabriz and Khoy in Iran.

Genetic diversity and association mapping for salinity tolerance in Bangladeshi rice landraces

Breeding for salinity tolerance using Bangladeshi rice landraces and understand genetic diversity has been limited by the complex and polygenic nature of salt tolerance in rice genotypes. A genetic diversity and association mapping analysis was conducted using 96 germplasm accessions with variable response to salt stress at the seedling stage. These included86 landraces and 10 indica varieties and lines including Nona Bokra, from southern Bangladesh. A total of 220 alleles were detected at 58 Simple Sequence Repeat(SSR) marker loci randomly distributed on all 12 rice chromosomes and 8 Sequence Tagged Site(STS) markers developed for genes SKC1, DST, and SalT. The average gene diversity was 0.5075 and polymorphism information content value was 0.4426, respectively. Cluster analysis revealed that 68 and 21 accessions were clustered into 2 distinct groups, possibly corresponding to indica and japonica groups, respectively and the remaining 7 landraces were classified as an admixed group. In addition to Wn11463, the STS marker for SKC1, Rm22418 on Chr. 8 was significantly associated with salinity tolerance, at the location of a QTL detected in previous studies. Our findings of favorable alleles associated with salinity tolerance in Bangladeshi rice landraces, as well as the development of STS markers for salt tolerance genes, will be helpful in future efforts to breed salinity tolerance in rice.

magnetohydrodynamic phenomena in the CT-6B Tokamak based on mirnov oscillations have been investigated by applying the limiter biasing potentials and changing the vacuum chamber gas pressure and plasma *** results show that setting up a radial electric field at the plasma edge could drive electromagnetic instabilities in the tokamak *** oscillation frequency upon application of a positive bias decreases about 10-15%and then after a delay time,τ_(d)=2.5-3 ms increases about 20-25%with respect to their value without *** the negative bias regime the oscillation frequency increases about 10%in 1 ms after the application of the bias *** poloidal rotation velocity changes during two steps are related to its link with the radial electric field and the time scale of the density *** frequency of oscillations increases with the increasing chamber gas pressure and decreases with the increasing the outward plasma displacement.

Preparation of La-mo-V mixed-oxide systems and their application in the direct synthesis of acetic acid

In this study, mixed metal oxides developed with a perovskite-type structure that show great potential for use in catalysis. Perovskite oxide catalysts with the composition LamoxV1-xOn （x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, and 0.9） have been synthesized by the sol-gel method and then used in the ethane dry reforming reaction for the direct synthesis of acetic acid. The influence of the nature of the metallic source （metal, nitrate, acetylacetonate, and ammonium） on gel formation has been studied by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy （FT-IR） and thermogravimetric analysis （TGA-DTA）. After calcination, the obtained perovskites were characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD） and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry （EDS） coupled with scanning electron microscopy （SEm）. The catalysts were then subjected to thermo-programmed reduction （TPR）. The surface area （BET） was found to increase from 2.6 m^2/g （x = 0.1） to 5.1 m2/g （x = 1.0） with increasing molybdenum content following calcinations at 750 °C, and pure LamoxV1-xOn perovskite was obtained with good homogeneity. The catalysts have been characterized by XRD, SEm, EDS, and carbon analysis （CA）. The results indicate that through this synthesis it is possible to obtain highly crystalline, homogeneous and pure solids, with well-defined structures. The direct synthesis of acetic acid from ethane over the perovskite catalysts was studied at temperatures between 450 and 850 °C and elevated pressures between 1 and 8 bar. It was found that the yield of acetic acid and the selectivity of its formation could be increased by incorporating more molybdenum into the perovskite structure. The experimental studies have shown that the calcination temperature and the molybdenum content have a significant influence on the catalytic activity. Amongst the catalysts tested, Lamo0.7V0.3O4.2 exhibited the best activity and stability.

Stochastic optimization for retailers with distributed wind generation considering demand response

In this paper, a multi-stage stochastic model is presented for a renewable distributed generation(RDG)-owning retailer to determine the trading strategies existing in a competitive electricity market. Uncertainties associated with wholesale electricity market price, clients' consumption and power output of wind resources are considered through auto regressive integrated moving average(ARImA) approach. In the proposed method, three trading floors are addressed for the retailer to hedge against the uncertainties. In the first stage, the retailer participates in day-ahead market to supply the clients and in the second stage, intraday market is addressed to allow the retailer to modify the schedule of its clients' consumption/RDG production. Due to unfavorable uncertainties, especially in renewable power production, real-time market is considered in the third stage to diminish the uncertainty at power delivery time. Cost function of wind resources considering capital, operation and maintenance(O&m) cost is incorporated in the objective function to increase the applicability of the mechanism. The proposed approach is formulated for risk-averse and risk-taker retailer through conditional value at risk(CVaR) approach. In order to study the impact of retail strategies on consumption patternand consumers' electricity bills, time-of-use(TOU)demand response programs are discussed in this *** the problem, the mixed integer non-linear programming(mILNP) problem is transformed into mixed integer linear programming(mILP) by jointly using decomposition and disjunctive constraints. Finally, a case study containing wind power resources, energy storage system and retailer is considered to analyze the proficiency of the proposed approach.

A New Numerical Approach to Evaluate Variation of Electric Field Strength at the End of Particle Trajectory in Nuclear Track Detectors

A geometrical model for an electrochemical etching （ECE） track in a dielectric detector is defined and a primaxy programme is written to generate the track. The generated track is transformed to an m× N matrix of primary voltages. Using a numerical method, the matrix of final voltages is computed, and using another numerical approach, the electric field strengths in the elements of detector volume are computed. The final field strength at the end of particle trajectory is obtained. The results of our numerical computation show that there are exact correlations between the field strength at the end of particle trajectory and the parameters of track under ECE. It is found that although two traditional models of mason and Smythe in dielectrics can be partly applied for short and long tracks, none of them are able to explain the behaviour of field strength in a ‘general case＇. Furthermore, we find that there is an expressive relationship between the field strength and the incidence angle of impacted particle, while the mentioned traditional models are not able to explain this effect.

Using S-statistic for investigating the effect of temperature on hydrodynamics of gas-solid fluidization

The influence of temperature on fluidization was investigated by a statistical chaotic attractor comparison test known as S-statistic, After calibration of the variables used in this method, the S-test was applied to the radioactive particle tracking （RPT） data obtained from a lab-scale fluidized bed. Experiments were performed with sand as fluidized particles and in temperatures from ambient up to 600 ℃ with superficial gas velocities of 0.29, 0.38 and 0.52 m/s. Considering the behavior of bubbles and comparing with frequency domain analysis, it was concluded that S-statistic is a reliable method for characterization of fluidization process behavior at different temperatures.

Reduced transition probabilities for 4He radiative capturereactions at astrophysical energies

The reduced transition probabilities from an electric quadrupole B（E2） andreduced transition probabilities from a magnetic dipole B（m1） between the groundstate and the first excited state have been calculated for the 3He（α,γ）7Be, 8Be（α,γ）12cand 12C（α,γ）160 radiative capture reactions with the m3Y potential. These reactionsare important in stellar evolution. The calculated B（m1） and B（E2） for 7Be nuclei arefound to be 1.082 x 10-3 e2 fm2 and 1.921 e2 fma from transitions 3/2- to 1/2-, re-spectively. The obtained values for reduced transition probabilities B（E2） for the 12Cand 160 nuclei from transitions 0＋ to 2＋ are 12.54 e2 fm4 and 14.18 e2 fm4, respec-tively. The results are in satisfactory agreement with available experimental data.
