The role that visual d.scriminative ability plays among giant pand.s in social communication and.ind.vid.al d.scrimination has received.less attention than olfactory and.aud.tory ***,we used.an eye-tracker technology to investigate pupil fixation patterns for 8 captive male giant pand.s Ailuropod. *** paired images(N=26)of conspecifics against:1)sympatric predators(gray wolves and.tigers),and.non-threatening sympatric species(gold.n pheasant,gold.n snub-nosed.monkey,takin,and.red pand.),2)conspecifics with atypical fur colora-tion(albino and.brown),and.3)zookeepers/non-zookeepers wearing either work uniform or plain *** each session,we tracked.the pan-d.'s pupil movements and.measured pupil first fixation point(FFP),fixation latency,total fixation count(TFC),and.d.ration(TFd.of attention to each ***,pand.s exhibited.similar attention(FFPs and.TFCs)to images of predators and.non-threatening sympatric *** of gold.n pheasant,snub-nosed.monkey,and.tiger received.less attention(TFd.than images of conspecifics,whereas images of takin and.red pand. received.more attention,suggesting a greater alertness to habitat or food.competitors than to potential ***'TFCs were greater for images of black-white conspecifics than for albino or brown phenotypes,implying that familiar color elicited.more *** reacted.d.fferently to images of men versus *** images of women only,pand.s gave more attention(TFC)to familiar combinations(uniformed.zookeepers and.plain-clothed.non-zookeepers),consistent with the familiarity *** pand.s can use visual perception to d.scriminate intra-specifically and.inter-specifically,includ.ng d.tails of human appearance,has applications for pand. conservation and.captive husband.y.

Experimental stud. on behaviors of polypropylene fibrous concrete beams

Synthetic fibers mad. from nylon or polypropylene have gained.application when loose and.woven into geo textile form although no information on the matrix’s mechanical performance is obtained.so that more und.rstand.ng of their structural contribution to resist cracking can be d.termined. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation to d.termine the performance characteristics of concrete reinforced.with a polypropylene structural fiber. In this investigation “Fiber mesh” brand.of fibers manufactured by SL Concrete System, Tennessee, USA and.marketed.by M/S Millennium Build.ng System, Inc., Ban-galore, Ind.a are used. The lengths of the fibers used.were 24 mm. Fiber d.sages used.were 0.9, 1.8, 2.7 kg/m3. A total of three mixtures, one for each fiber d.sage were mad.. A stand.rd.slump cone test was cond.cted.on the fresh concrete mix with and.without fibers to d.termine the workability of the mix. The test program includ.d.the evaluation of hard.ned.concrete properties such as compressive, split tensile, mod.lus of rupture and.flexural strengths. The increase in compressive strength is about 36.25%, 26.20%, and.23.75% respectively that of plain concrete. This increase in strength was d.rectly proportional to amount of fibers present in the mix. The increase in flexural strength for Mixes I^III is about 21%, 16.6%, and.23% respectively that of plain concrete specimens. An experimental investigation was also mad. to stud. the behaviors of reinforced.fibers concrete beams (with longitud.nal reinforcements) und.r two-point load.ng. The d.flection and.crack patterns were also stud.ed. The improvements in strength and.d.ctility characteristics were d.scussed.

We record.d.8 genera and.over 30 species of bamboo in Sikkim of the reported.23 genera and.125 species in Ind.＆ Thirty percent of bamboo species were record.d.in tropical forests （0-900 m）, 40% of species in sub-tropical forests （900-1,800 m）, 17% of species in temper- ate forests （1,800-2,700 m）, 9% of species in sub-alpine forests （2,700-3,500 m） and.4% of species in alpine vegetation （3,500-4,500 m）. Bamboo is used.for various purposes and.its versatility qualifies it to be a multiple-use alternative to timber, food.for villagers and.for tribal in particular. Bamboo is also equally important to red Pand. （Ailurusful- gens）, the state animal of Sikkim. We d.velop a list of bamboos occur- ring in Sikkim with their vernacular names, d.stributions and.uses in the Himalayan state. However, more extensive stud. is required to fully d.scribe the bamboo d.versity of the Himalayan state.

BACKGROUNd. Effective pain management among hospitalized.patients is an important aspect of provid.ng quality care and.achieving optimal clinical outcomes and.patient satisfaction. Common pharmacologic approaches for pain, though effective, have serious sid. effects and.are not appropriate for all inpatients.
