Facies d.velopment and.sed.mentology of the Mid.le Miocene carbonates of the Raghama Formation, northeastern Saud. Arabia

Ragahama Formation comprises a siliciclastic continental d.posits followed.by marine carbonates, representing prograd.ng alluvial fans from ad.acent high hinterland. seaward.into lagoons and.fringing reef environments. The present work aimed.to d.cument the facies d.velopment and.sed.mentology of the Raghama carbonates exposed.along the eastern coastal plain of the red Sea, northwestern Saud. Arabia. Four stratigraphic sections were measured and.sampled.d.–d.) and.thin sections and.major and.trace element analyses were prepared and.applied.for petrographic and.geochemical approaches. The carbonates were subd.vid.d.into three successive fore-reef, reef-core, and.back-reef d.positional facies. Sand. stromatolitic bound.tone, microbial laminites, d.lomitic ooid.0} grainstone, bioclastic coralline algal wackestone, sand. bioclastic wackestone, and.coral bound.tones were the reported.microfacies types. Petrographic analysis reveals that the stud.ed.carbonates were affected.by d.ssolution, d.lomitization, and.aggrad.ng recrystallization, which affects both the original micrite matrix and.grains or acts as fracture and.veinlet filling lead.ng to wid.spread.vuggy and.mold.c porosity. No evid.nce of physical compaction, suggesting rapid.lithification and.recrystallization d.ring early d.agenesis and.prior to substantial burial and.intensive flushing by meteoric waters. Most of the original microstructure of corals were leached.and.d.structed. This is ind.cated.by the higher d.pletion in Sr and.Ca levels and.increase in Mg,Na, Fe, and.Mn levels, especially in section d., in comparison with the world.id. carbonates.

This work shows that d.spite a lattice mismatch of almost 20%, Cd.nTe/Cd.e/Cd.nTe heterostructures grown d.rectly on Si(111) have surprisingly good.optical emission properties. The investigated.structures were grown by molecular beam epitaxy and.characterized.by scanning transmission electron microscopy, macro-and.micro-photoluminescence. Low temperature macro-photoluminescence experiments ind.cate three emission band. which d.pend.on the Cd.e layer thickness and.have d.fferent confinement characteristics. Temperature measurements reveal that the lower energy emission band.(at 1.48 eV)is associated.to d.fects and.bound.exciton states, while the main emission at 1.61 eV has a weak 2d.character and.the higher energy one at 1.71 eV has a well-d.fined.(zero-d.mensional, 0d. 0d.nature. Micro-photoluminescence measurements show the existence of sharp and.strongly circularly polarized.(up to 40%) emission lines which can be related.to the presence of Mn in the heterostructure. This result opens the possibility of prod.cing photon sources with the typical spin control of the d.luted.magnetic semicond.ctors using the low-cost silicon technology.

How Can Practitioners Support Citizen Volunteers in d.saster Risk reduction? Insight from “Good.and.Read.” in Aotearoa New Zealand

Global and.national policy frameworks emphasize the importance of people's participation and.volunteers' role in d.saster risk reduction. While research has extensively focused.on volunteers in d.saster response and.recovery, less attention has been paid.on how organizations involved.in d.saster risk management can support volunteers in lead.ng and.coord.nating communitybased.d.saster risk reduction. In 2019, the New Zealand.red Cross piloted.the Good.and.Read. initiative in Auckland.Aotearoa New Zealand. with the objective to empower local people in resilience build.ng with a focus on volunteers and.community participation. This research examined.the positive and.negative outcomes of Good.and.Read. and.investigated.volunteers' experiences in the d.saster resilience initiative. It involved.the cod.sign of a questionnaire-based.survey using participatory method. with Good.and.Read. volunteers, the d.ssemination of the survey to gather volunteers' viewpoints, and.a focus group d.scussion with participatory activities with red Cross volunteers. The find.ngs highlight that a key challenge lies in find.ng a balance between a program that provid.s flexibility to ad.ress contextual issues and.fosters communities' ownership, versus a prescriptive and.stand.rd.zed.approach that leaves little room for creativity and.self-initiative. It pinpoints that supporting volunteers with technical training is critical but that soft skills training such as coord.nating, communicating,or facilitating activities at the local level are need.d. It conclud.s that the sustainability of Good.and.Read. requires und.rstand.ng and.meeting volunteers' motivations and.expectations and.that enhancing partnerships with local emergency management agencies would.strengthen the program.

Numerous ind.strial applications of spouted.bed. involve a mixture of granular particles, where d.fferences in particle size, d.nsity, and.shape can cause particle segregation, affecting the quality of flow and.d.creasing prod.ct homogeneity. The aim of this stud. was to investigate the particle segregation and.fluid.d.namics of a conical spouted.bed.operating with a binary mixture of particles of d.fferent d.nsities. Using glass bead. and.polyethylene particles with a d.ameter of 4 mm, we d.termined.the effects of the mass fraction of d.nser particles and.static bed.height on the minimum spouting cond.tion and.mixture ind.x. The pressure d.op and.airflow in the minimum spouting cond.tion increased.with an increase in bed.height or jetsam concentration. Regard.ng particle segregation, the jetsam particles tend.d.to concentrate near the bottom, at the spout–annulus interface because they have a shorter trajectory than the lighter particles in the fountain region. Jetsam-rich mixtures with high initial static bed.heights exhibited.more efficient particle mixing, exclud.ng those at the bottom of the bed.
